Ah ahahaha.. Remember that botched invasion of Georgia over Ossetia? The Russian military is shit. Not organized, graceful, or even professional because of what they were doing when they were there (Looting). It's just got numbers
Remember the invasion of Crimea? Where not a single person died and troops showed extreme discipline? 2008 is not 2014. Besides, they essentially destroyed Georgia's military.
I'm not talking war, I'm talking sanctions and diplomatic actions that actually work, not the half-assed pansy bullshit we've been doing.

Historically ignorant post

Two people died.
And the only real discipline was on the side of the Ukrainians.
Automerggge

Yeah and tens of millions of people died.
Yeah a few years later America showed up and won the war on 2 different sides of the globe
Suuure, it wasn't the combined efforts of the Allied forces that lead to Germany's fall

You have literally no fucking idea what you're talking about bud. You should seriously stop with your nationalist bullshit in these threads. You're only making yourself and other Americans look bad.
Putin needs to stop putting on his nostalgia goggles for the Soviet Union. He was a fucking KGB agent. He didn't exactly live the typical soviet life and that era sucked for everyone, except him.
right because what they have now is so wonderful
And nothing will happen with the West but to just watch history repeat itself.
Or we could get involved and watch history repeat itself again and break our death-toll high score from WWII.

It's better than the Soviet Union.
So, uhh, where's that proof of Russia invading Ukraine for real?
So, uhh, where's that proof of Russia invading Ukraine for real?
Is military presence moving in to the region not really evidence or something?

You were saying?
Is military presence moving in to the region not really evidence or something?
And how am I supposed to believe that without sufficient proof? Or we just trusting blindly to anything anyone has ever said?
You were saying?
All right, I take it back. Of course you always have to take this with a pint of salt, plus constant "probable" word doesn't sound promising. But apart from that, I won't dispute it.
I can only hope Putin will back down eventually.
And how am I supposed to believe that without sufficient proof? Or we just trusting blindly to anything anyone has ever said?
if your standards of "sufficient" limit everything but seeing it with your own two eyes in person first hand, then yeah, we might have different standards.

The Russians had won the war in Europe by the time D-Day happened.
More than 100 Russian soldiers were killed in eastern Ukraine in a single battle in August while helping separatists fight Ukrainian troops, two members of the Russian presidential human rights council are quoted by Reuters as saying.

Several hundred women gathered outside a military base in Kostroma, central Russia, on Thursday to demand that commanders come clean about the whereabouts of their husbands after reports of secret funerals for soldiers covertly sent to Ukraine, AFP reports.

Sweden's foreign minister has told the BBC Russia's actions amount to an "undeclared invasion". "I don't think there is the slightest of doubt what's happening," Carl Bildt said. "Remember Crimea. He [Putin] denied everything concerning Crimea until very very late."

Concern is growing in Russia among relatives of Russian servicemen unable to locate them or, in the worst cases, having to receive their bodies, the BBC's Oleg Boldyrev reports.

Joseph Dempsey, a military analyst at the Institute for Strategic Studies, tells the BBC he has assessed footage of battle tanks used by rebels in Ukraine.
"In the last couple of days we've seen footage that can identify to a type of tank, the T-72 BM, which is only in service within the Russian army... it is clearly a tank that could only be provided by Russia."
just a few snapshots just from today.
not to mention the admittance from Rebel leaders.

Look above you.
People seem to be getting ahead of themselves in this thread, Russia is not full on invading Ukraine, it's invading a little bit of Ukraine. Still an invasion. What evidence has been gathered they are securing the eastern sections that will clear the way to Crimea.
Essentially this is a border push.
Yeah a few years later America showed up and won the war on 2 different sides of the globe
Sad part is that this is basically what they taught us in my high school world history class, America sure is perfect right?
Why should we get involved? This doesn't concern us or threaten us
it sets a precedent. Russia can't be allowed to take whatever countries it pleases
it sets a precedent. Russia can't be allowed to take whatever countries it pleases
Or else what? Russia shall do what it pleases.

You mean Hitler threw the war away when he invaded Russia, right? Not to play down American efforts and all, but Operation Barbarossa is the reason the Allies won in World War Two. It divided Hitler's army such that he could not hold back the tides, and he pissed off an enemy that he probably couldn't have beaten even if it was the only one he was fighting.

Damn I didn't know there was a RIDF too.
I don't think they'll annex anything, they'll probably just remove the post-Maidan Government and reinstall Yanukovych.
Probably better that way.
The Russians had won the war in Europe by the time D-Day happened.
Uhm no, see this is completely false. Had the Allies not regrouped in the West and got their shit together (not that America was the saving grace of the war, but they did help quite a bit by adding a bunch more manpower to the fight), Germany would have been fighting entirely on one front with the bulk of their military, the Russians would have been fucked at that point. The only reason the Germans lost was due to pussy-footing around with taking cities that weren't Moscow that they obviously didn't have the manpower or supplies to hold. They would have been fine had the Western front not taken the majority of the supplies and troops.

No they just don't want the Ukrainian Government to 'solve their problem' in the east by denying them that military victory they had nearly achieved.
I seen this coming back when Putin started putting soldiers at the edge of the Ukrainian border it was just a matter of time.

Germany already had the bulk of their military in the East. But this really isn't the thread for it.
