basically i assume it'll be tested on this ship because...well its got a lot of spare power and the tests will require a lot of power, also it uses a lot of jet fuel, and for the first year or so this thing will be probably prowling along the waters around here shaking down all the bugs, which is a perfect time to testbed technology like this

I was thinking we could get away with 8: one in each ocean and one in reserve to take over when the other carrier needs to change crews, but it would allow for a continuous presence in each ocean.

Because they are designed to invade countries.

Also in order to defend carriers properly, you need to constantly sortie early warning aircraft. The reason being that the curvature of the earth prevents carriers from seeing anything beyond a few miles because their RADAR can't magically curve over the horizon (with any degree of accuracy). By placing aircraft in the air, you can see MUCH further and avoid or engage threats long before they threaten the carrier herself.

However early warning aircraft are of considerable size:
