Why the fuck would you need a aircraft carrier that big
It's a waste of fucking money
Power projection. A lot of it.
Helps prevents conflicts, similar to the MAD concept, except it isn't mutual.
what's really cool about this, is its reactors have been built from the ground up to generate electricity instead of steam (big difference). this thing has enough power to produce jet fuel from sea water and CO2, run the large city that it is, push it's ass through the water faster than any other carrier, and use fucking lasers! all at the same time

too bad the name was a very bad idea'
since as you know, the first ship in the line is the name of the ship class.....
this is the Ford Class aircraft carrier.......
which means it'll leak oil all over the garage floor
Doesn't it also produce all that power for 25 or so years without needing to be 'refueled' ?
Also, why aren't more ships named after universally badass people, like MoH receivers, rather than political figures. He had a pretty routine run in the Navy, if I recall, as far as WW2 goes

The Nimitz class carriers were all named after Presidents (save for the Nimitz and Stennis) and I'm assuming so will the Gerald Ford class carriers.
The majority of Naval vessels currently in the Navy's fleet(s) are named after people other than presidents, to include multiple medal of honor recepients.

There are ships named after people of that persuasion, including the USS Michael Murphy, named after a Navy SEAL MOH recipient. The second Zumwalt-class Destroyer is to be named after Michael Monsoor, another Navy SEAL MOH recipient who threw himself upon a grenade.
There's the USS Hopper which is named after a bad-ass 79 year old rear admiral who looks like my grandma.
