I'm going to be experiencing a natural high for the next two weeks, thanks SH!
oh no! what will we ever do without the music industry! [sp]sarcasm[/sp]
Good fucking riddance. RIAA and MPAA should've been shut down ages ago.
Oh no the industry is dying
I know that was sarcastic but somebody has to mention this- Nielsen data isn't actually comprehensive as a picture of "the music industry as a whole" to begin with because they only collect data from really shitty sample sets. Most of their data comes from voluntary sources, and multiple digital sources and retailers choose not to report. There's a huge amount (think high millions if not a billion) in otherwise normal sales they don't know about, and the data they do have is primarily collected so it can be sold to other companies. Nielsen can say the music industry lit on fire and only sold a single Bieber album last year and it wouldn't mean anything about the actual music industry. Soundscan hasn't been remotely accurate since the 90s.
I really hope it pisses right the fuck off. I am gonna be dissapointed if they manage to survive.
It's about time..
I think it's interesting that a lot of big names and organizations in the entertainment industry are getting hosed all at once. Think about it...Blizzard-Activision is up for sale, EA is losing profits and possibly up on the market, THQ almost died entirely, and now this. I suppose that's what happens when your business models are no longer keeping up and your products no longer satisfy your consumers.
Good thing for Valve, I guess.
