You're still assuming people are a hivemind.
No because they are suffering from toxic erasure.
imagine generalizing the entire human population
I lived in the Middle East, remember; I know just how wrong a 'sadistic joke' can go.
I'm willing to bet you've been sheltered by comparison, it's the only reason I can imagine the idea of burning it all down would appeal to you.
OK ever dealt with an anti vaxxer? Imagine how trying to tell them how they are hurting themselces and others through their stubborness and if pushed further these people they lash out? It gets to a point one ends up not caring and wishing the worst upon them. Same here. Dont want people go down the shitter like I did. But hey if you insist, I can't stop ya, now can I? 😒
There's no use debating with people that are set for Trump when it comes to things like this. If they weren't already put off by his inability to even try and be honest or professional(along with a list of other shit), they won't be swayed now. You got people like Billy saying they can't wait for the next conference. It's just a little game for them.
Just want to use this to set my stance, given the post I made above.
The guy's nuts. He really shouldn't be where he is for any reason. However at this point, fuck it. It's like going out bar hopping and one of your drunk friends gets in front of the karaoke machine. The rational you is gonna get him down but at the same time you know this is gonna be something once in a lifetime so you let him have his song and then you're taking him home.
For all I care Trump can stay for four years, then he's clearly going to be replaced come hell or high water. In the meantime it's just too hilarious to NOT watch the equivalent to your drunk friend who does PR as a dayjob running through the sprinklers in front of City hall with underwear on his head.
Lighten up. This is gonna be pure platinum.

In the end, every individual has different beliefs; those with harmful beliefs, as much as you want to help them, have a right to those beliefs. You've got to accept that idiots will be idiots, and move on. If your attempt to educate them didn't work, tough shit. You've done all you could do - pushing any further is you failing to respect their right to make that choice. This is especially difficult when it's someone you love, but again, people seldom change their views easily, and not everyone is open to learning.
What I don't understand is how you can pretend that everyone who isn't you is somehow not as intelligent or perceptive - or justify killing potentially millions just to prove a point, by burning everything down. That's narcissistic personality disorder or sociopathy, not enlightenment.

Kinda like any one who doesn't agree with Clinton is a bigot or a Nazi? Or how any one who disagrees with the GOP is unamerican and is a terrorist?
Try again.
Toxic erasure is the concept the reason why people is suffer is due to the interaction of three types of people. Good smart sane people, dumb crazy dishonest violent evil people and smart evil manipulators. Over time what has happened the dumb people killed off the the good smart sane people. The smart evil pandering to the dumb people made ideas which made people more crazy, dumb and violent to gain power and appeal to the dumb crazy people.
This over time has generated a society of bad ideas which are designed to make people unhinged and emotionally unstable. So that means every idea you know is only logical due to familiarity when it isn't.
Now, they'll take this news conference -- I'm actually having a very good time, OK? But they'll take this news conference -- don't forget, that's the way I won. Remember, I used to give you a news conference every time I made a speech, which was like every day. OK?
No, that's how I won. I won with news conferences and probably speeches. I certainly didn't win by people listening to you people. That's for sure. But I'm having a good time.
What?

arguing with an imaginary strawman that isn't here earns you no points
Logic isn't this special tool only certain people have access to. It's a freely available, freely learnable concept. No one holds logic hostage as you're making it seem.
It gets really eye rollingly cringey to argue with a person who literally believes the majority of the population, and even the person they're talking to is incapable of thinking for themselves while you, my special snowflake, aren't
It's so hard reading the transcript because he keeps going all over the place and interrupting reporters. My favorite is:
Well the leaks are real. You're the one that wrote about them and reported them, I mean the leaks are real. You know what they said, you saw it and the leaks are absolutely real. The news is fake because so much of the news is fake. So one thing that I felt it was very important to do -- and I hope we can correct it. Because there's nobody I have more respect for -- well, maybe a little bit, but the reporters, good reporters.
What the fuck does this even mean?
Tomorrow, they will say, "Donald Trump rants and raves at the press." I'm not ranting and raving. I'm just telling you. You know, you're dishonest people. But -- but I'm not ranting and raving. I love this. I'm having a good time doing it.
But tomorrow, the headlines are going to be, "Donald Trump rants and raves." I'm not ranting and raving.
Says he's not ranting and raving while he rants and raves.

Sorry, but you're too far up your own ass. Get out there and talk to people. Most are much smarter than you think - at least if you don't live in some rural backwater. Political apathy is a greater problem than 'toxic erasure'.
Here's something you don't seem aware of: Only a tiny minority of idiots claim that going against the GOP is unamerican, or that anyone disagreeing with Clinton is a Nazi. Just like a tiny minority of idiots, including Trump himself, believe that any poll showing negative approval of Trump is fake news.
The problem is that 'good smart sane people', as you put it, generally keep quiet because they understand that things aren't black and white, and know how idiotic it is to run their mouths. News media largely represents complete idiots in their reporting because outrage generates views, and by extension, huge profit. The actual majority is a largely silent majority.
Actually getting some experience of the world and its people under your belt will dispell your warped, ridiculous vision that the vast majority of people are somehow completely brainwashed ideologues.
If you get the chance, travel. Seriously, you need to get out of whatever shell you've isolated yourself in.

it's a tautological statement meant to prove itself true
when a lie becomes a tautology our brains kinda just get confused and we want to stop thinking for a while

imagine attributing things to me that I've actively argued against multiple times on this very forum. Generalizations are just about the worst possible thing to base your argument on

did you know that simplifying people and categorizing them like that is actually a major indicator of being a sociopath?

if the entirety of society is designed to emotionally unhinge people then our society quite simply could not function. Furthermore your first statement most certainly does nothing to reinforce your second statement.

what is this great adversity in your life that has given you such insight into the human condition? I'd really, really love to know.
It's fucking bizarre. RIPBILLYMAYS is going to school to be some sort of nuclear engineer or technician (sorry I can't remember) and Chonch works in finance. Is it just schadenfreude and you really don't care about the longterm consequences?
I feel like even if you agree with everything Trump wants to do there has to come a breaking point where you denounce his dishonesty, particularly when you have repeatedly railed against the dishonesty of Trump's opponents in the past. I just want to see one person say "Yeah I agree with the travel ban and the wall and the keystone pipeline but I also think Trump's statements about fake news are worrying and he has a habit of lying a lot".
I'd imagine the frequent claims that "SJWs are taking over academia" really hits home with some conservatives who have invested in higher education. All the reports of intimidation and highly divisive protests on campuses coupled with the lingering paranoia surrounding Common Core and the uninterrupted use of affirmative action made this one of the most potent anti-SJW conspiracy theories currently going around. It's like their version of the wage gap.

It really does seem that the modern republican party is built entirely around making things out to be a much larger "problem" then they actually are. Hell their entire argument against trans people is hypothetical lol
So Shepard Smith over on Fox News spoke out on this today.
I'll be honest, I'm fairly left-wing (neoclassical liberalism), but I've got a newfound respect for the guy. You can tell when someone has a passion for the industry, no matter what their outlet, and has a great sense of journalistic integrity. He's definitely not toeing the party line. Seems like the entire industry is also pretty impressed with him.
I'm not going to say this is a big turning point in Fox's ideology, but we could definitely be seeing some cracking around the edges. Smith is their lead anchor, he is effectively the face of their entire newsgathering operation. If Fox News ends up positioning itself against Trump, that could challenge the established media dynamic.

Watch him be ousted.
Watch him be ousted.
Shepard Smith has been on Fox News for a long time and has always been the oddball there, since he's very rational and realistic with his reporting. He's never really conformed himself to Fox New's agenda.
Watch him be ousted.
I genuinely doubt it. Like I said, he's their Brian Williams, and he's been with Fox for decades. And his overall criticism of the GOP is nothing new (Mitt Romney's mom jeans, Donald Trump's sexual harassment allegations).
If there's even an inkling of truth to Fox New's slogan, it's Shepard Smith. I'm not going to say he's a great guy (he told a female anchor she should wear less clothes on her new show, after all), but he is at least committed to the truth. He's a principled journalist.
Reminds me of some of the guys I've worked with, really.
Speaking of Journalists This was posted on As anonymous in Quora:
I work in the news media, thought Donald Trump would win, and think the idea the president is going away anywhere is absurd.
I’ll start with—and dismiss—the intelligence leaks: They prove nothing. At present it’s innuendo, and if there is more I suspect the Republicans who control Congress will happily look the other way in exchange for the kinds of fiscal changes they want made across the board.
I don’t know how else to say this, but be prepared for eight years of President Trump. The Democratic Party is in disarray at the local level. They control 12 state legislatures (compared to 32 for the Republicans and 12 that are split); 16 governorships (there are 33 GOP governors and one independent). In other words, their ability to redraw districts at the local level is practically nonexistent—except in the states they already control. Because of redistricting, the GOP wins at the state level even if it receives fewer votes. This may not be a fair system, but it’s the system that exists in the U.S.—and it’s not going anywhere.
Second, Trump promised security through the banning of certain groups of people and he promised jobs. You may disagree with what he has done, but it’s popular with his voters in states that gave him the Electoral College. Keeping the U.S. safe is a simple message that resonates with Americans. So is creating jobs—even if few materialize. If Trump is successful in getting an infrastructure project passed—and I suspect he will—the effects will be seen in 2019, just in time for the 2020 election. Of course, the economic chaos a trillion-dollar plan unleashes will be felt in his second term, but that’s another story.
Third, the Democrats have lost the plot. They’d rather win arguments on social media and comments sections with people who mostly agree with them than make common cause with others who may be on the fence about Trump. Issues like abortion, LGBTQ rights, immigration are all important, but they can be fights saved for another day. Instead, liberals are happy to diminish anyone whose views don’t align with their own. Case in point: “Everyone who voted for Trump is a racist,” which is a patently absurd argument. I can go on and on about this, but I’ve only had two cups of coffee this morning.
Fourth, the Republicans can’t stop, Trump but are happy to take what they get: tax cuts, welfare reform, a more bloated national-security state. I suspect there will long-term consequences for the party because of its complicity with administration, but public memory is short.
Finally, I hate answering this anonymously, but my profession makes it impossible for me to answer it any other way. My apologies. Hope it’s useful.
Obama took the blows from Fox News for 8 years and never complained like this. Trump goes a few weeks and has been constantly complaining and whining. Deal with it.
Watched that speech, it was a mess, jesus

Educated does not mean intelligent. I've fallen victim to this line of questioning before. Most people do. You have to give up at the end of the day and not worry about the reason why they are the way that they are and believe the things that they believe. If they're wrong, they're wrong, and that's all the matters. At that point, you can safely disregard their opinions. "You stick to what you know, and stop lecturing everybody else like a fucking moron about things you clearly don't understand."
Ben Carson is a neurosurgeon. He went to Yale and was a director at Johns Hopkins. He's separated twins who were conjoined at the head, an unprecedented feat. He's also a Seventh-day Adventist (which is a weird Christian denomination in the first place), believes that the Book of Genesis should be read literally (the whole 6,000-year-old Earth made in seven days thing... yeah, he thinks that happened), has said that the Pyramids of Giza were constructed by Joseph as gigantic grain silos, and thinks that "the United States will play a big role" in an upcoming apocalypse (of which he has said, "I hope by that time I'm not around anymore.").
Heaven's Gate had a bunch of educated people in it. Marshall Applewhite (the founder) was a musician with a master's degree, had a deep appreciation for Handel, became a professor and was a chair of the music department at the University of St. Thomas in Texas, and performed with the Houston Grand Opera. Bonnie Nettles was a nurse. Tim Braun was a lawyer. Cheryl Butcher was a computer scientist. David Moore was a network engineer. Gary St. Louis was a computer programmer. Julia LaMontagne was a nurse who studied at Amherst. David Van Sinderen was an environmentalist and the son of a telephone company CEO. And so on. There were a lot of computer techies in the cult.
My stepfather went to Harvard and became a lawyer. He sincerely believed we didn't need to use the atomic bombs on Japan to end World War II-- ignoring the fanaticism the Japanese showed during the Battle of Okinawa, the fact that there was an attempt to launch a coup after the bombings to prevent a peace deal, and the fact that they were training women and children to fight the invading Allied forces with (and I shit you not) spears, clubs, and broomsticks.
Etc.
You can have as many pieces of paper in your name that say you're certified for X and tack on as many titles as you want to your name. Doesn't mean you're actually an intelligent individual who has a well-rounded education and a measure of sensibility about them. Prove it. That's the bottom line. Being specifically good at one or two things doesn't actually mean a whole lot in the real world.
I wouldn' totally agree with you govna but i get what you're saying and there's some truth to it
I'm genuinely starting to wonder if Trump isn't going to have some sort of medical leave before the year is over.
