EA: Star Wars Battlefront will be a FIRST PERSON SHOOTER

My optimism is flagging somewhat at this point, its more because of stuff like the fact they aren't doing the clone wars that has me suspicious tho, as opposed to it being locked to first person.
I wouldn't have an issue with the "modern shooter with a starwars skin" thing alone- but this is starting to smell like its going to make the same dumb pandering that halo did before we got "that gun looks too sci-fi and might alienate bro-shooters from our sci-fi game!- replace it with another five chunks of black greeble plz"
I hope im wrong tho- battlefront was the shit back in the day.

Unfortunately that's exactly what it is going to be.

There is nothing wrong with that. That was essentially what the originals were.
hey guys I found a screenshot of battlefront 2
it's ultra beta access so don't tell anyone shhh:

Hopefully there'll be some kind of campaign attached as well, maybe a sequel to Republic Commando?

A majority of the guns in Star Wars are real guns. I don't think they need to do anything like that.

I wish Command and Conquer renegade 3 was a thing.
CnC Renegade was pretty good.

Yeah, it would be pretty sweet if they used the Renegade formula for this

I actually didn't know that, but i was referring to the way weapons/characters/Ships worked as opposed to the way they looked (although i suppose battlefront didn't really have many outlandish weapons outside of the special class load-outs in battlefront 2)
Battlefront is nearly literally Battlefield with a Star Wars skin.
Pretty much this. Battlefront has always been a sub-par Battlefield clone. Now instead of being a clone, it's an official reskin.
You know, at least Battlefront gave you an equal playing field from the start. No unlocks outside of per-match awards, and most content actually came with the game.
I said it before and I'll say it again, you'll be grinding experience to unlock shit you probably should already have, and a quarter of the maps are going to be sold separately. That's DICE's modus operandi, and anyone who says otherwise is thinking of the DICE that made Rallisport Challenge 2 and Battlefield 2142.

Can they really do that with Star Wars though? Out side of weapons? There are not a lot of guns in the movies, so they really can't have the 1000s of unlocks like Battlefield can.

It's just people massively generalising Battlefield, don't pay it any mind.

You would think that the Empire would have a standard gun that pretty much every foot soldier would use. Everyone will probably have a small set of guns to choose from, then tons of upgrades/attachments like accuracy/damage boosters, grips, scopes, other gadgets etc.
I am one of the niche group who is actually disappointed by this, I played the first 2 in third person view. Only time I went first was in the first battlefront when flying some of the vehicles cause those dashboards were damn cool
I have a bad feeling about this. First they axe the Clone Wars era (aka entire game is now Empire vs Rebels IIRC) and now it's just an FPS.
Well fuck, now where will I get my jedi starfighter swarm action now :(
I loved the third person view in the previous games, but that's because the first person view felt clunky.
I wonder how long it'd take for a third person mod to be made when this is released.

I've always play BF2 in third person, it was weird for me trying to play it in first person.
Star Wars: Battlefield
You mean exactly like the old Battlefront games? They didn't even try to hide it.
I know some people don't like the Clone Wars era and I prefer the original trilogy setting, but that doesn't mean it's right that they remove it. Playing across multiple eras in battles from the entire Star Wars saga was what Battlefront was about. They've took out one of the main features of the game. This isn't going to be a proper battlefront game, it doesn't really matter if you prefer the Clone Wars or the original trilogy, the games were always about playing the battles shown in all the movies and that was one of the things they used to advertise them (at least had it on the covers). It was about having the iconic characters, weapons, locations, vehicles and other things from all the movies, not just a few of them. There being gameplay from both eras was part of what made Battlefront great, but DICE have just dropped one of the most important things about the game as if it didn't matter.
I don't think anyone should be happy that they are removing two of the main features from the previous two games. They even said this isn't going to be Battlefront 3, it'll be their own version of Battlefront instead. That makes it seem like DICE doesn't care about the original games and just want to use the name. The game Free Radical was making looked really good and like a true battlefront game, it didn't seem like they were going to have remove anything to make it. Without being able to play in both eras and a focus on third person, it is not close to the previous games and not battlefront.
This is hugely subjective, and you're projecting your own opinion on the circumstances.
I'm perfectly happy with only being able to play the OT content, and having played both original Battlefront games, being able to play both eras was never among what I thought was important. It just meant more content. I'm glad they don't have to spend time and resources creating essentially double the content.
I think it's important to remember exactly how much work goes into producing a game these days, as opposed to when the original Battlefront games were made. Especially at DICE. Game development costs go into the hundred millions. Battlefield 4 had a 100 million dollar budget, and I imagine that this game, probably being of equal size when it comes to content, will have an even larger budget.
and Dice hasn't exactly been polishing games at all recently either
To be fair BF4 is pretty polished now.
[sp]And it only took them a year.[/sp]
AS I mentioned earlier in the thread, saying first person might just be a generalization because they confirmed ages ago there would be a third person component.
I assume vehicles will have a third person cam, controlling an at-at would be hell otherwise (cool, but hell).
Vehicles / melee combat will probably have a 3rd person component to it. Simply because it works better.
I'm assuming the new Battlefront will be next-gen only. Because if so, it's likely going to be a bigger leap in tech than BF3 to BF4 was.
You mean exactly like the old Battlefront games? They didn't even try to hide it.

Agreed. And I don't even think it's a stretch to say the huge scale of multiplayer battles with vehicles and objective of battlefront 2 might have been INSPIRED by the battlefield series. Battlefield 1942 came out it was 2002 (and it christened in a new age of larger scale multiplayer battles) and when Battlefront 2 came out it was in 2005.
DICE is so fucking aware of what they will be screwing with if they screw this up. And the fact that they aren't showing any media about it should make us a little more confident they are doing their best to make it look different from battlefield while still having the core multiplayer values we expect from them, hell, this could be the only version of battlefield 2143 that we'll ever get. (titan-esque mode for the star wars battlefront game? yes please)
if you look at the screenshots it doesn't even resemble the same genre as the previous two, and it looks like a modern military shooter.
there's not much to look at
but how will you droidekas?
FPS Battlefront will still work as long as it's still Battlefront.
I'll miss the third person, but if the first-person feels better than it did in BF2 with good animations it could be alright.
