Battlefront is nearly literally Battlefield with a Star Wars skin.
Battlefront 1 and 2 are clones of old Battlefield. Old Battlefield games were great. (BF 1942, BF Vietnam, BF2, BF2142) People don't want to see the new Battlefront end up like Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline. Old Battlefield games and modern Battlefield games are almost nothing alike. They have two completely different formulas and they play very differently.
I wonder what all the weapons you will have to unlock will be. Would be awesome to see all the various universe weapons.
I wonder what all the weapons you will have to unlock will be. Would be awesome to see all the various universe weapons.
$5 says they won't keep it canon and they'll just invent their own bullshit
How the fuck is this getting disagrees? It's pretty obvious half of you guys have never actually played any Battlefront games, they were literally meant to be Battlefield: Star Wars Edition, although they had some unique mechanics most of the gameplay was based entirely on Battlefield. Not that that makes them bad, in fact the first two games were fantastic because of it, combining Battlefield with Star Wars made for some really fun games.
Except I played both religiously. I disagree with the statement thst it's nearly literally Battlefield
Except I played both religiously. I disagree with the statement thst it's nearly literally Battlefield
It was very obviously a cash-in that followed the, at the time, extremely succesful and somewhat novel Battlefield formula. We had already had two Battlefield games, with the third one (BF2, which was huge) released the year after Battlefront. It's not a carbon copy, but they lifted pretty much all the gameplay elements and gave them a Star Wars twist. And with a name like Battlefront, it's certain they chose it to communicate what this game would be like. You know, like Battlefield. Pretty much the same was said at the time:
When Star Wars: Battlefront was announced a year ago, the premise excited many fans of George Lucas' sci-fi franchise, if only because it just made so much sense. Battlefront would take some of the ubiquitous characters, vehicles, and weapons from Star Wars and incorporate them into a Battlefield 1942-style team-based shooter, featuring large maps, dozens of players, and plenty of drivable vehicles, in addition to on-foot shooting. Now that the game is finally available, we can confirm that Battlefront delivers this experience--no more and no less. It's a solid multiplayer action game on its own merits, even if the premise is familiar. As such, how much you'll finally end up liking it will probably depend on how much you like Star Wars and how much Battlefield-style gameplay you've already been exposed to.
http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/star-wars-battlefront-review/1900-6108208/ We were just lucky that the Battlefront games turned out to be great. [editline]29th October 2014[/editline] And it's only logical that the new Battlefront will follow modern trends. I don't mind it playing somewhat like Battlefield 4, as long as they fix the more glaring mistakes with the gameplay.
To be fair BF4 is pretty polished now. [sp]And it only took them a year.[/sp]
Everyone seems to think games come out polished before hand. The only game I've seen come out even remotely polished to a mirror shine was TF2 and look how long that took to make.
I'm actually very disappointed. I really loved the availability of both first and third person perspectives in the original games. If they don't have third person vehicles or third person heroes, I'll be very angry. I can see being in first person as a trooper, but it's still great to be able to admire the models and animations from that perspective. I feel so claustrophobic in first person sometimes, especially in a Star Wars game. The ONLY Star Wars game I can think of that has had first-person restricted gameplay is Star Wars: Republic Commando. Please don't ruin Star Wars games for me, EA.
I'm kinda of okay with this, but I sincerely hope that we'll still get third-person as an option. I could never get used to first-person in BF2.
I'd almost rather this never be worked on, with pandemic gone its not going to be the same or have the same goals
dunno why people hate unlockables so much, theres a reason why titanfall really dropped off after the first few weeks
I don't think unlockables are bad. I think some unlockables shouldn't be unlockables, like core features or defense mechanisms for vehicles.
Didn't know they cut the Clone Wars era. So we won't be able to play as droids. Although I'm sure they will shit out a Battlefront Premium pack that adds dumb skins and making people without it feel like they bought a $60 F2P game that constantly spams you about premium.
But thirdperson was amazing.
can anyone else agree to the fact that third person gives an advantage over first person in certain situations, IE:
Well that explains why people always knew when to pop out and shoot me as I neared a corner.
even in third person, if you're that guy waiting at a corner, someone a ways down the wall can't angle their camera to see you, while you can see them. It's a flawed little mechanic that's hugely in favor of being used like an exploit. Any studio with FPS experience at this point would tell you that's a cheap mechanic to keep around. If you're going to hide behind cover, you should have to actually expose yourself to see around it. This is about as simple of a step as it gets as far as balancing shooter gameplay. Having said that, hero characters were obviously very imbalanced, and would be ridiculous to control in first person if they play like they used to, primarily the ridiculous mobility. You could still come up with some cool hero mechanics that work well in the new gameplay. If they kept third person it would still make some canonical sense, as jedis are cool and psychic and can probably sense around a corner or whatever. On top of that, everything from tanks to ATVs to remote drones in BF4 still have third person options and benefit from swapping between the two (though hardcore mode servers restrict you to first person). I would assume this would still be the case, and if we have droidekas, they'd at least swap to a third person camera for their rolling mechanic.
Hopefully there'll be some kind of campaign attached as well, maybe a sequel to Republic Commando?
some heavy optimism, but that'd be awesome

They're just usually turned off because "realism" so I don't think they would leave out vehicle 3rd person. I bet they just won't put heroes in. Which would be sad
Hopefully there'll be some kind of campaign attached as well, maybe a sequel to Republic Commando?
They'll probably throw in a campaign, seeing as the last Battlefronts had one, though I doubt a Republic Commando sequel. Hopefully they'll bring in the grittiness from RC.
It's going to be nothing like the original games, its going to be battlefield and you know it.
As someone who has put tons of hours into both franchises, that's essentially what it already was. The only real difference is that Battlefront was less open and had less emphasis on vehicles. Probably only due to it being for consoles originally.
Everyone seems to think games come out polished before hand. The only game I've seen come out even remotely polished to a mirror shine was TF2 and look how long that took to make.
It probably helped that it very little content. Only 6 maps on release. It's more than 14 GB now, though some of that is shared source engine assets.
I don't think unlockables are bad. I think some unlockables shouldn't be unlockables, like core features or defense mechanisms for vehicles.
I'm still trying to work out why DICE thought making the class defining kit and mother fucking flares for aircraft locked at the start in BF3 was a good idea. Yeah it doesn't take much to unlock flares, but if you suck at flying (which you will at first), you're not getting them for a little while.
I am going to be pissed if there are no space battles AND no special playable Jedi characters.
I thought this one specifically was going to have surface to orbit stuff. Was that the canceled one from a year or so ago?
I'm still trying to work out why DICE thought making the class defining kit and mother fucking flares for aircraft locked at the start in BF3 was a good idea.
dunno why people hate unlockables so much, theres a reason why titanfall really dropped off after the first few weeks
Titanfall fell off at the first few weeks because it was bad, not because of unlockables. I don't know about you, but I play video games for fun. Not because I need to feel accomplished when I unlock something for a gun that should have been there to begin with, or to get a reward that makes a point-score on my player-profile go up a little bit. I hate having to use the same weapon for 10 hours straight just to get it to a high enough level to unlock everything.
I'm sure if you started with the cool and super useful stuff you'd totally enjoy the idea of progression for the generic items that everyone else has
It's more a problem of an Assault cannot actually help his team much without med kits for example. Not having flares makes flying anything a nightmare (well, last time I played most people gave up with AA because of flares being too good, but whatever), but I wouldn't say it's the coolest thing a jet can have. Working towards things like the better radars and shit is still satisfying, even if they aren't quite as life saving.
I have a bad feeling about this. First they axe the Clone Wars era (aka entire game is now Empire vs Rebels IIRC) and now it's just an FPS.
I'm sorry, WHAT. No, you don't get to do that EA. I know how you work, I know what you're planning. Next you're going to tell me they cut space battles.
Yeah but it was pretty obvious it wasn't meant for first person. The first person view seemed really half-assed, like the reload animations just lowered the gun down the lifted it back up after a second. And iirc some of the models didn't fit properly so you could see into the arms if you jumped or something. I don't mind it being an FPS (Though the FPS and TPS toggle was neat and I'd like to see that again), but axing the Clone Wars entirely was stupid. It was a major part of the first 2 games, then they decide to give a big fuck you to the people who like the Clone Wars and expected it to be in the third game of a series where the 2 previous major titles had it.
They will probably release the Clone Wars as DLC 6 months after launch...
Jesus christ people are already screaming "OMG BATLEFELD CLONE DICE SUX" and we don't even fucking know how the game looks or plays in real time! Come on people, stop being ignorant. Let's wait until they show live footage and/or demos before making up our minds.
I thought this one specifically was going to have surface to orbit stuff. Was that the canceled one from a year or so ago?
From the canned one, this one is likely gonna be locked to ground battles with bombers/fighters for air support. Basically BF3/4 but STAR WARSSSSS, it's gonna be shit. They likely wont include space battles either because knowing it they'll be some magical limitation with Frostbite which will "stop" them from doing it.
People played in first person in BF1/2? I might be wrong, but I thought the only way you could dodge-roll was if you were in third person.
People played in first person in BF1/2? I might be wrong, but I thought the only way you could dodge-roll was if you were in third person.
You could do it in first person, but you kinnda just crouched and zipped over to where ever you were rolling too.
The ONLY Star Wars game I can think of that has had first-person restricted gameplay is Star Wars: Republic Commando. Basically BF3/4 but STAR WARSSSSS, it's gonna be shit.
They've already shown off AT-ST's, and AT-AT's and Snow Speeders were in the teaser trailer. Seriously, I don't think this will be a Battlefield clone.
There are not a lot of guns in the movies
There are in the EU... [editline]29th October 2014[/editline]
I'd almost rather this never be worked on, with pandemic gone its not going to be the same or have the same goals
Crytek UK really should have been brought in to work on this, since a lot of former Pandemic employees are there.
