I'm not going to jump to conclusions and call this a Battlefield clone. But I will say I am very paranoid that it will end up being the case.

Haha! Video games are fun! Haha! I like Star Wars! PEW PEW PEW! :D That's how I'll be when I'm having a blast in this game when it comes out.
Weren't the original Battlefront games pretty similar to Battlefield anyways?
Pretty much, especially the first one. Gameplay wise for sure if its not the second game's space battles.
I almost exclusively played in third person but this change doesn't bother me too much as long as it's a fun game.
even in third person, if you're that guy waiting at a corner, someone a ways down the wall can't angle their camera to see you, while you can see them. It's a flawed little mechanic that's hugely in favor of being used like an exploit. Any studio with FPS experience at this point would tell you that's a cheap mechanic to keep around. If you're going to hide behind cover, you should have to actually expose yourself to see around it. This is about as simple of a step as it gets as far as balancing shooter gameplay.
I doubt they'd keep the classes from BF2 anyway since they were slightly broken, but Engineers and third person was a horrifying combo. You'd rack up the Regulator award just getting to a point, drop some health and ammo next to your camping spot, and be able to dominate with zero effort. Even if you had a hero unit come sprinting towards you, you had detpacks- blast the fucker skyward right as they round the corner, finish them with some of your reward super-buckshot, resume camping. The entire paranoia about DICE ruining Battlefront is a bit odd because the series has always had pretty bad balance (it just managed to be really fun despite that). DICE might not be the best name in FPS development right now but it's not like Pandemic were geniuses about it either.
From the canned one, this one is likely gonna be locked to ground battles with bombers/fighters for air support. Basically BF3/4 but STAR WARSSSSS, it's gonna be shit. They likely wont include space battles either because knowing it they'll be some magical limitation with Frostbite which will "stop" them from doing it.
ahahaha
They took out the clone wars era? I am very disappointed
Galactic Civil War era is infinitely more interesting anyway.
Galactic Civil War era is infinitely more interesting anyway.
But the Clone Wars gave us Gungans. I fear for the day when there isn't a level dedicated solely to killing Gungans.
Wow, so much cynicism in this thread, and we haven't even seen actual gameplay footage.
Wow, so much cynicism in this thread, and we haven't even seen actual gameplay footage.
This is basically anything involving EA though.
So is it going to be a new Battlefront every 2 years?
It's going to be nothing like the original games, its going to be battlefield and you know it.
Me and my friends always called Battlefront "Battlefield with Star Wars". I don't understand why people are acting like it's new? It was a very basic shooter that only stood out for the level of effort put into the Star Wars setting. Even my middleaged mum who only plays Harvest Moon could play it to a respectable level. They never said Third Person wasn't in it. Infact the trailer showed it only from a third person perspective. The guy was just looking for a way to quickly nail the genre when asked a question about upcoming releases.
People played in first person in BF1/2? I might be wrong, but I thought the only way you could dodge-roll was if you were in third person.
I think I used third person once or twice when I very first started playing Battlefront 1. I guess maybe third person felt better on consoles or something? I don't know, it felt cumbersome and innaccurate to play in third person for me. None of my friends ever did either... Can't imagine why anyone would honestly, outside of heroes and vehicles.
Galactic Civil War era is infinitely more interesting anyway.
They only cut out the clone war era so they didn't have to bother with droids, don't pretend otherwise.
Me and my friends always called Battlefront "Battlefield with Star Wars". I don't understand why people are acting like it's new? .
When people say "Oh it's just going to be battlefield with star wars", they mean it is literally just going to play like a modern battlefield game with star wars skins. This is not what most people want from a game based in a scifi universe with hover bikes, plasma/laser guns, light-sabers and all the other crazy stuff star wars has to play with.
It's really annoying how a lot of you can bitch without even seeing the game, and only base your ideas on speculation. It's a fucking star wars battlefront game, it's going to be a good game, even if it was just battlefront 2 with better graphics. Stop being negative bitchy gamers.
The battlefield today is different than the battlefield 1942/Vietnam that influenced The Battlefront series. If they add unlockable weapons via "xp", I'm gonna be pissed.
what did rolling in first person look like? couldn't you roll in battlefront? battlefront was 3rd person by default and was clearly meant to be played that way. the first person animations and models sucked pretty hard. [editline]29th October 2014[/editline] also does this mean that battlefront is taking medal of honor's place as the off-battlefield year shooter? also they're probably doing civil war only as a means of trying to help promote episode 7
also they're probably doing civil war only as a means of trying to help promote episode 7
That doesn't make sense to me. Isn't Episode 7 set in 34 ABY?
Battlefront is nearly literally Battlefield with a Star Wars skin.
Close to Battlefield 1-2? Yes. Close to BF3-4? Not even remotely. The Battlefield franchise itself has changed a lot (mostly to be more like CoD, let's just be honest here) so generalizing the whole franchise like that is a little much. [editline]bitches[/editline] Also it is pretty crazy they got rid of the Clone Wars stuff. While I think it is good they want to focus on the Original Trilogy to make it quality (a move I side with, the Clone Wars battles in Battlefront 1 were ass because the droidekas pooped on everything) I have to wonder how much of that decision really was motivated by DICE. I can't help but feel like that is just the excuse they made up so EA doesn't get flak for the inevitable Clone Wars DLC (once again let's be honest, it will happen and you all know it). And to people talking about the big budget=quality, keep in mind how much of that will undoubtedly be poured into advertising. A huge chunk will go solely to that, as it does with all modern AAA titles.
That doesn't make sense to me. Isn't Episode 7 set in 34 ABY?
which is closer than 18-20ish years BBY
If nothing else, i hope the game doesn't *look* like one of the new battlefield games. i saw my brother playing one of the more recent ones when i last visited my mum, and the cluster fuck of filters lens-flares and blurs on his TV looked like he had fucked up an ENB installation in a Bethesda game.
I don't think I'll care if its unapologetic about being a copy of battlefield at this point because I think I'd enjoy it regardless, I just hope its made with some effort and passion so its not a bland boring buggy mess.
Why can't DLC be a full game in its own right anymore instead of something that should have been in the game originally?
These are sad news for me, I really enjoyed playing in third person on both games, but that isn't really the case. My only concern on this is whether we'll get the Instant Action and Galactic Conquest modes on the new instalment or not.
Honestly, if the addition of Clone Wars era stuff comes in a package like BC2: Vietnam, I'll be happy.
Why can't DLC be a full game in its own right anymore instead of something that should have been in the game originally?
It can, and if it gets that much love and attention then it is well worth it and I would be alright with that idea. However, just based on past experience alone I am a little doubtful this will happen. But who knows? And if it does, I would be alright with that.
Good no goofy Battledroids. Clone Wars era has been dead ever since Grievous became a puss, Count Dooku had a escape plan every time he got his ass kicked, and the droids lost every battle.
