Just comparing numbers, sure. But then again, when the numbers are something like 2-3 to 1, or, in the case of carriers or cruisers, 11 to 0 and 22 to 0, it paints a pretty clear picture of capabilities.
Alright, perhaps saying a single battle group would be able to take on the Chinese navy is an exaggeration. However, the fact remains that the US would be capable of engaging the Chinese long before the Chinese could do likewise. The US's carrier aircraft such as the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet have effective combat radii of over 400 miles. The Ticonderoga-class cruisers' and Arleigh Burke-class destroyers' Aegis missile systems can intercept most anti-ship missiles at long range, and any that they miss can be dealt with by Phalanx CIWS. Of course, these systems aren't perfect, but they provide defense against the primary threat to US naval operations, which is long-range anti-ship missiles.
The time may be off, but it's starting up again. The article is still related to current times.
Because the usa is good and china is evil
Who gives a fuck if China surpasses your shit
China Is the oldest Empire in the world dating back thousands of years, I believe they are preparing for world domination. Sadly, democracy is failure and America is on it's down fall in the near future. And also China's economy is going to be greater than America's within 50 years from now.
I thought Egypt or whatever the turban head people call themselves were the oldest.
I thought Egypt or whatever the turban head people call themselves were the oldest.
The middle east was the origin of civilization but no single empire has lasted in Egypt or the turban people you speak of.

ANZUS treaty would kick in and China would have to deal with America.
Nobody looks at friendship we hold with China, they would never invade us, we were the first country to set up diplomatic relations with Communist China in the 1970s.
Our relations with China are a lot closer to what people think, with us all being shadowed and protected by the US. In 20-30 years, i reckon China will be our closest ally.
A war will break out in the next what? 10 to 20 years
Hmm... Contrary to popular 2012 belief, maybe they will use that as an excuse to start a round of wars for the fuck of it.
When Aliens attack we can invade them. :buddy:
Russia has been a 'threat' all through the 60s, 70s and 80s and was militarily able to take on the US, they didn't though. Guess what, neither will China. Everyone has far too much to lose by going into an all out war. It just won't happen.
The Soviet Union was only a credible threat immediately following WWII. Beyond that they cared more about keeping the Americans from invading them than the reverse.
Of course, despite the fact that the US repeatedly inflamed the situation and on several occasions very bloody nearly did provoke the USSR, the less educated among the American populace will always maintain that the Soviets were a credible, looming threat to Western civilisation and it was only through America's efforts that we avoided becoming Communist. :rolleye:
[editline]04:40PM[/editline]
Also if you guys seriously think we would get rolled immediately you're morons. Do you have any idea what a logistical nightmare it would be to invade a country that is mostly useless desert? Do you realise China doesn't have much of a blue water navy to protect that logistics chain? Do you have any fucking idea just how well this place lends itself to guerilla warfare?
I won't go with the "we're better soldiers" (at least, I won't claim it as fact because I don't know what China's training is like), but you can bet your fucking life we'll be in there wrecking shit far out of all proportion to our size. The Army has less people than America has special forces, but we're well-trained and well-equipped, and once you couple in the home turf advantage, you're in trouble.

And who in their right mind, well knowing their own capabilities want to do something as suicidal as invading a modernized country? The US too would have serious trouble if they tried to do an amphibious invasion of say India.

That last part just stirred up a heap of national pride in me.
Let's say war between the PRC and Australia happened for some weird bullshit reason. Their objective would not be physical occupation of Australia, but more likely rendering the Royal Australian Navy ineffective as a force to project Australia's military power into the region.
The RAN are capable of doing things other than getting on Today Tonight over sex scandals? :v:
How would China move their whole fighting force down their in time though?
How would China move their whole fighting force down their in time though?
Who says they need to bring in a major portion of their military when occupation of Australia is clearly outside of their grand strategic goals?
We'll just ban China.
chuck em the filthy coon land (aka ALL of western aus, and 9/10ths of south and north australia) that we gave to abo's. Chinese immigrants account for more of the population than native abo's. That will solve this problem

If China does go hostile, North Korea will hop aboard, Russia would, some middle eastern countries would. They would not be alone.

Hahahahha nope don't think so, Russia and China don't really like each other much at all. That's not even considering Russia's attitude towards the DPRK

This isn't the Cold War anymore. Russia and the People's Republic have pretty close relations with each other ever since the fall of the USSR.

Russia also has close ties to the US and EU.
Russia also has close ties to the US and EU.
If they're that close, why doesn't the US have a Special Relationship with Russia like it does with the UK then? There's the fact that the PRC and Russia signed a 20 year strategic treaty back in 2001. While direct Russian military support in a PRC vs whoever conflict is highly unlikely, it would seek to support its strategic partner through providing military logistical items and brokering ceasefires and peaces that have terms favoring the PRC, for example.

Maybe they do. :tinfoil:
 China and the US are friends for the most part, there is no Second Cold War.
This just in: It will confirmed that Aus and China are likely to go to war on a news show called '60 minutes' tonight.

the population can be divided into two groups: those who watch current affairs programs and take them seriously, and those who either avoid them or just watch them for laughs. the former group should be deported.
This just in: I just watched 60 Minutes for myself (recorded it) and China's Navy has been growing for a long time, and they are almost as powerful as USA, which has Australia and 9 other countries nervous, so we did navy War Games and the only country that did not participate was China, so there's much speculation going on.
