Interesting note: In the past few months, EA's stocks have been going down. There was only a small spike once Battlefield Premium was released, and even then. Activision-Blizzard and Valve have been rising steadily, and will soon surpass EA before the 4th quarter is out.

Probably because of Mass Effect 3's 'cruddy ending' and people telling themselves that they aren't getting it or playing it again, even though the game itself is good.
I don't see the big deal here with everyone hating EA. Games like Spore and Sim City Societies were good, I just stopped playing them because I ran out of ideas for them. In Spore I even had a grand plan on making a story using the Galactic Adventures expansion, and I still do, I just lack the creative ability to make it stand out. Sim City Societies, I like how they tried to branch things out with themes and what-not. Yes, it's not like Sim City, but it's not supposed to be. And I still give points because they finally went ahead and added some 'fictional' elements in buildings with things like cyberpunk.
Oh yeah, also read the whole article!!
Valve has stock? Wasn't it llc?
Correct, Valve doesn't have public stock because it is a privately owned company, where the only people who own stock in the company are the actual employees.
However that said Valve has one of the highest profit-per-employee ratios of any company in the world. I think they have more incoming profit-per-employee than Google/Amazon does as a matter of fact.
Of course google makes more overall profit, but they also have many more employees.
Valve has stock? Wasn't it llc?
"stock" meaning gains and increase of overall cash, I don't mean private/public companies, sorry if it came out of that.

They're listing the engine as a feature?
I'm surprised they didn't list Keyboard and Mouse functionality as a feature.
Actually, being unlisted, I wouldn't say I'm entirely sure it's granted we'll get it. That might be sold at an additional cost.
Don't buy it, don't support bad business practices. Let EA die off and be replaced by a more competent company.
Not entirely certain i can fully blame EA on this one. The game has been developed as a multiplayer online game only and not single player.
Since when? Sim City has always been a single player game first - any attempts to bring in multiplayer should be as an addition, not as a replacement,
not as a replacement,
It isn't a replacement.
Sure you always have to be online to run the game, but singleplayer isn't replaced.
Fucking damnit. On the bright side, hopefully this will kill EA that bit faster.
i think its an good economic decision
They think DRMs will make piracy impossible. Adds about a minute of challenge for them.
It's funny because now MORE people will pirate it.
Seriously, this has been everywhere. Every thinking human being knows this.
So tell me, and I'm genuinely asking, how the flying fuck is it possible for them to not get it? I mean, seriously, I just can't comprehend that fucking idiocy. Someone needs to meet EA's boss, sit down with him, and explain it all slow and nice like for a retard or else he won't get it.
It seems like these huge videogame companies just kill everything they touch.
The only reason I would refuse to buy this game is if there is no modding support. And with all this I'm hearing about "persistent, multiplayer worlds," it's starting to look like EA might use that as an excuse to nix mods and charge us $15 every other month to prevent the game from getting stale.
Well, as long as losing connection doesn't interrupt the offline single player, I still want this game.
However, if they drop mod support and replace that with DLC...that actually might be a deal breaker. In any case, I'll wait before buying it to see how things pan out.
I mean, I have a boycott and all of EA, but if this new SimCity turns out to be good I might just put the boycott on hold for a short moment to enjoy a more up to date childhood joy.
It's like they don't even have meetings about things anymore.
More like they want people to pirate their shit.
Hey guys, OP is incorrect

Put down your pitchforks they haven't ruined it that much yet.
I really don't know why people aren't boycotting EA the same way they did L4D2. EA actually deserves it.

So you basically boycott EA when it's convenient for you?
EA is just raising PC game prices again with their special editions. GET FULL GAME? PAY 80 $ ISNTEAD OF 50 (60)
I thought Sim City was like one of those games you really like to play if you DO NOT have an internet connection.
Y'know, when the internet fucks up and you have nothing else to play, games like that are just amazing.
I think I'll buy it but then if I can't stand the DRM I'll download a crack.
I respect the devs, not EA though.
DRM takes the life of another maxis game
Alright alright, where is the mention of DRM in that article? Seriously, all they are saying is that they are preparing just in case the servers get overloaded like how Diablo 3 was on it's launch day. I looked over the article, and there is not a single mention of DRM. Someone tell me where it says DRM, huh?

The DRM is that the game is online at all times. It's a fairly new form of DRM where generally speaking the user is kicked off from the session if their internet connection fails.
However, in Ubisoft's Anno 2070, they had it so you wouldn't be kicked from gameplay if your internet went offline, and I think EA will do the same here.
Loads of people here wanting EA to "die", why not just wish they had someone with more than half a braincell in charge?

An example must be made.

There's even been two posts earlier in the thread saying the exact same thing. I can see why this section is called "Sensationalist Headlines". Also, the stuff in the "Deluxe Edition" is just cosmetic items to place in cities. I really don't think you would be missing out on important content if you bought the regular version.
So you need an internet connection to play the game offline and online?
So basically you need a internet connection to play the game. That's the exact same thing we were saying before. What's the difference?
They said log in once. It's like how Spore is, you need to log in once to confirm the profile, but after that, you don't need to log in to play it. You just need that single log-in to tell the game 'alright, I brought the game, now let me play'. Or something like that.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
