Faraday cages ground electricity, not highly energetic particles from the sun.
What we need are magnetic field generators.
Also :techno:
I like this idea. Get gigantic electromagnets on the moon and/or satellites and use them to deflect/redirect the particles.
This is stupid as hell but at least it's an idea.
Okay, the source says we can avoid it by properly insulating and protecting transformers. Why didn't I read that bit?
shit. I had a feeling something bad would happen in 2012.
good thing my dad is in the military and if society does go to shit we got guns.
I will look like this
:smug: + :patriot:
this makes me want to grow my own food in my back yard again like when I was little.
I'm gonna loot stores once CCTV goes dead.
If you see a giant cardboard robot carrying all kinds of nerfguns invented, that's me

The Jakarta Post doesn't seem quite so worried about it.
wait is the source reliable?
Seems to replicate the effects of an EMP.
Well fuck, trillions of dollars in damage? Start building your Faraday Cages.
Pffff. Like I haven't already got one.
Pffff. Like I haven't already got one.
JohnnyMo1, master of physics, what do you suggest we do in this harrowing situation?
Seems to replicate the effects of an EMP.
Maybe because it is an EMP.
Fear mongering if you ask me.
Yeah fucking scientists with their, their expertise about things
trying to scare the common man
JohnnyMo1, master of physics, what do you suggest we do in this harrowing situation?
Find a man named Van Allen. Buy him a larger belt.
shit. I had a feeling something bad would happen in 2012.

I'm pretty sure over 90% of people who live in the USA own at least one gun. You're not special
Wait, how many different apocalypse settings are now supposed to take place in 2012? About 50?
Gonna be a fun year :v:

Fate is making up for all those predicted apocalypses. We will be overwhelmed by coronal mass ejections, tidal waves, asteroids, and vampires.
I suggest we stock up on garlic. And move to the moon.
hopefully this happens at night so it doesn't affect us
:downs::downs::downs:

you idiot, vampires come out at night
we're dead every which way you look at it

No zombies? Damn, an apocalypse without zombies isn't fun :saddowns:
No zombies? Damn, an apocalypse without zombies isn't fun :saddowns:
I forgot zombies. Also, the Large Hadron Collider. :v:
If any of you have been watching 'Wonders Of Our Solar System' you will know that the Earth has a natural sheild against this.
I forgot zombies. Also, the Large Hadron Collider. :v:
Yay a blackhole or a emp whats worse? Maybe we will be lucky enough to get both!, well get sandwiched in between, wooho.
And? What thats it? Get on with your fucking lives and stop worrying about doomsday. When it comes, you'll know. Until then STOP CLUTTERING UP LIFE WITH YOUR DRAMA FILLED CRAP!!!
If any of you have been watching 'Wonders Of Our Solar System' you will know that the Earth has a natural sheild against this.
Yeah the scientists did totally not take that into account first :downs:
If any of you have been watching 'Wonders Of Our Solar System' you will know that the Earth has a natural sheild against this.
I've been watching that. Good program.
...um, the Earth DOES have a natural magnetosphere, but it's not strong enough to protect completely against huge CMEs.
Don't you think the scientists would have realised that?
If we all die on 2012, then we all die, nothing we can do. Just live your life to the fullest that's all.

Thanks for your words of wisdom on life.
Does this mean that rumble dildos will stop working :byodood:?

Do you mean:
:fsmug:
If it is that sort of scenario, it sounds like the wisest decision would be to turn off applications, machines, and devices that would be exposed to said radiation. And once the storm passes, just turn it all on again. Unless it would fry whether it was on or off.
Well fuck, trillions of dollars in damage? Start building your Faraday Cages.
Why the hell would we build faraday cages?
I don't like the sound of this
