That would protect it only from current spike induced in the energy infrastructure. Strong enough radiation will wipe out even unplugged electronics.

Probably not since it's apparently just an EMP, it will just wipe out every single electrical device/component/whatever worldwide.
But then again, in terms of speaking we would also be affected, because I bet theres going to be a shitload of panic and looting and rioting all over the world. So yeah, you could say it will be harmful to us.
