it doesnt matter we already got killed by the LHC
Guys, guys... chill out... The mayans are trolling us bigtime, can't you see? :v:
everyone saying they're prepared with their shotguns needs to get outside more and realise that most people aren't out there to kill you
You've never lived through a disaster have you? Back in Hurricane Katrina, Gas trucks delivering gas to the stations had to have police escorts. Most people don't know how to react in times of disaster, and a disaster of this scale would most defiantly cause widespread looting, disorder, and murder.
So is this really going to happen? What will the government do? What will we do?
key word: POSSIBLE [editline]06:22PM[/editline] doesn't mean it will happen, but it can. [editline]06:23PM[/editline]
Guys, guys... chill out... The mayans are trolling us bigtime, can't you see? :v:
actually the whole "end of the world is 2012" actually pertains only to the Mayan culture from what I understand.
people are trying too hard to make the 2012 bedtime story real. it's tiring. can't wait for 2013. maybe we could set the next apocalypse further into the future so we could have some peace? i vote for human extinct in 5 million yeas and worlds end in 4 billion years.
And when 2012 flops, we have 2025! I think Nostradamus claimed that number, though I can't recall.
What kind of radiation are we talking about here, particles or energy? How hard would it be to put several sattelites in orbit carrying supermagnets at a distance far enough from the Earth to create a planar magnetic field of such strength that it would redirect the particle-radiation away from the planet and not cut the surface of the planet? They'd be in geosynchronous orbit so that they'd alway sit between us and the sun.
In the likely event that we are not in any way prepared, we will all feel worse than most 3rd world countries. And there would be anarchy in most of the world. Not sure if the world war will break out - can anyone fight with no electricity nowadays? On a more serious note, I'm very interested if Maloofs idea is physically possible for the humanity.

@maloof, putting a satellite in geosynchronous orbit, for that purpose is not going to happen, there's not enough space for an event that rarely this strong, and only every 11 years
@maloof, putting a satellite in geosynchronous orbit, for that purpose is not going to happen, there's not enough space for an event that rarely this strong, and only every 11 years
Four sattelites with nothing between them but a magnetic field will not take up very much space. Considering that we don't know WHY it could be this strong (and can't actually predict whether or not it will be anyway), I think most of the world would rather be prepared than be sitting there with no electricity at all (that's no phones, no internet, no digital watches, digital ovens, no digital car alarms or, if you're unlucky enough to have a digital starter system for your car ignition, no working car) thinking "We'll figure something out next time".
Note: Not all articles are actually real. How blantly retarded can one possibly get?
Very blantly.
Like I thought, this source isn't to be trusted? Okayy
oh well. time to build my fort. let me start with a very deep room with a computer some snacks and a pizza incase we die [editline]03:39AM[/editline] and im not married yet :( i will die sadly :(
No. I've been hearing about this since a year ago. It's only going to wipe the electricity, or whatever, away. Edit: What I'm wondering, is, will the radiation be harmful to us?
I somewhat wish that this article is going to be true. I want my life to change, I want it to become adventurous... In the event that this DOES happen, I'm grabbing my butterfly knife and traveling by night...

Sounds fun, this will be completely awful, the world will be in disarray, people will DIE. Governments will fall, economies will fall, there will be no order.
the last thing ill do before i die is hack youtube :smug:
the last thing ill do before i die is hack youtube :smug:
what a life goal! :allears:
And getting your ass kicked? Sounds fun, this will be completely awful, the world will be in disarray, people will DIE. Governments will fall, economies will fall, there will be no order.
Can't get your ass kicked if you strike silently at night... But still, that's merely a dream I've had, me and my brother touring the country, doing whatever it takes to survive. Yeah, this could turn out very terrible. Technology will be forced back quite a while...
There's a very easy way to save your electronics when a solar storm happens, just unplug everything before it hits, the problem is that we have no way of predicting them.
That's an ELECTRICAL storm. With ELECTRICITY. This is completely different.
people are trying too hard to make the 2012 bedtime story real. it's tiring. can't wait for 2013. maybe we could set the next apocalypse further into the future so we could have some peace? i vote for human extinct in 5 million yeas and worlds end in 4 billion years.
Damn straight. If those goddamn mayans were so good at predicting disasters like many so-called scientists say, they would have predicted that on the year 1492 some freaky-looking, goldthirsty white man was going to appear out of nowhere, and that he and his guns were going to fuck them up bigtime. Yeah, they sure didn't see that one coming... They're not to be trusted and that pisses me off. What pisses me off even more are all those assholes falling for that load of bullshit claiming it's a FACT... "Hurr durr omg the mayans are right, their prophecy is true, we're all gonna fucking die aaargghhh!!!! :derp:" *rage* I can't wait for Jan 1st, 2013 so I can shut some fucking hippies up. /rant
april fools
april fools
Yeah well, the mayans are taking this April Fools joke too damn long :v: More like, December Fools actually
:ohdear:
:ohdear:
There's nothing to be scared of, son. Worse things than fairy tales can kill you today. [editline]01:07AM[/editline] Even while you sleep!
How will I maintain contact with my girlfriend when she moves to California? :frown:
you write letters and get a carrier to send it.
The sun is going into it's next life cycle, the radiation is going to last a couple of hours (9-12 if I remember correctly) and is only going to affect gps signals.
If any of you have been watching 'Wonders Of Our Solar System' you will know that the Earth has a natural sheild against this.
Did the ozone layer get pwned with a hole in it?, I heard it's repairing it though. Yeah, were screwed.
