The sun is going into it's next life cycle, the radiation is going to last a couple of hours (9-12 if I remember correctly) and is only going to affect gps signals.
better use google maps while you still can!
That's what a second report said, it also stated that it's somewhere during 2011-2013, not necesariliy 2012. In other words, yay for over reacting :v:
better use google maps while you still can!
ctrl+P google earth
NASA is part of the government. This means that all the information about solar storms that comes from NASA has probably been heavily altered to instilling a sense of fear for some apocalypse in 2012. This is exactly the kind of hysteria they're trying to raise.
Man, I used to think 2012 was just another day. Now this is just pissing me off!
Now where is my source link here I bet it says april fools in the end and OP just left it out
How will unplugging something stop radiation from hitting it?
Powerlines, then through your plugs and circuitries etc. Solar wave won't do it through your pc case you know, only way would be through the metal that is the plug. Like War of the Worlds, even if things didn't work even if they were unplugged, no power and that.
This sounds like how the Fantastic Four were created! Rate me Optimistic, I want to be like Reed Richards! :buddy:
If this happens casaulties will be huge. Lots of people in hospitals completely rely on elecricity to live, planes will just fall to the ground etc. This is not as harmless as it seems.

JUST TURN OFF ALL THE FUCKING POWER STATIONS IN THE WORLD WHEN THIS HAPPENS :sigh:
JUST TURN OFF ALL THE FUCKING POWER STATIONS IN THE WORLD WHEN THIS HAPPENS :sigh:
That wont help.
:sun:"Here to Brighten your Day!" I hope to god this is a sick prank by the U.S. Gov.
That wont help.
I'd think it would actually, is it equal to an EMP or will it just fry any already on electronics?
Not even surprised.
Why did you expect this...?
Powerlines, then through your plugs and circuitries etc. Solar wave won't do it through your pc case you know, only way would be through the metal that is the plug. Like War of the Worlds, even if things didn't work even if they were unplugged, no power and that.
I'm pretty sure that, regardless of whether or not a device is plugged in, if a magnetic field of sufficient strength passes through it (or changes in strength whilst intersecting the circuit), a voltage and current will be induced. You don't want this to happen, as it takes only a small amount of misplaced electricity to burn out a transitor. Computers are pretty much entirely reliant on transistors. Why do you think static can damage computers so horribly? Unless we install a device to prevent the interaction of solar weather with the Earth, or a device that will generate a field powerful enough to nullify the effects of the solar weather on the Earth's magnetic field, we won't be truly safe. I guess we could start installing magnetic shielding on all components created from this moment on, but anything created before now will still be in danger. I might be entirely wrong. I'm tired and can't be bothered researching the causes and effects of the storm; if it's not storm>magnetosphere>electrical devices then I'm sorry for misleading you.
That magnet requirement thing sounds like a great idea, and we should definitely start.
I've had bigger farts
Why did you expect this...?
Well, maybe he believed in the prophecies.
I posted about this like 2/3 years ago. Solar storms are nothing new.
Great. Now the solar storm will react with the LHC's proton stream and fuck shit up. brb, building a Bussard fusion ramjet and leaving this system

:science:
this better be a fucking joke.
Wrap your house and car in tin foil, problem solved.
Considering this actually happened before, this is something I'm actually worried about now.
Considering this actually happened before, this is something I'm actually worried about now.
Dude, me too. We'll let the scientists and engineers worry about it for now. Emphasis on the "for now". If nobody does anything about this I'm eventually going to start writing to people. Actually, forget that. I'm far too lazy. Fuck we're all dead
2012 this, 2012 that, hundreds of potentially apocalypic events occur ever year, everyone's just giving them coverage because of the whole Mayan calandar 2012 bullshit.
