If this happens every 11 years then that would mean it happened in 2001. We had satellites and power lines and shit. Nothing happened. So why would it happen in 2012?

So it would only affect digital devices? My '99 Escort might not work since it most likely has a computer controlling the engine, but my parents have a '74 Volkswagen Beetle that may work. So I guess we wouldn't out of vehicles per se.

2012 will never happen, as in the Earth will not end. Its just paranoia. It was the same in the year 2000 with Y2K, it was the same with 6/6/06, it will be the same with 2012. The only thing that will happen is that people will commit suicide. The world will end for those people, but not for everyone else.

I think it originated from the Mayan calendar ending in 2012 and probably some books exacerbating that.

The Sun and Earth are always aligned all the time because you can always draw a straight line between them. And more planets would not align every year because Earth is the only planet that (obviously) takes 1 Earth year to orbit the sun.
