This might explain why WA's net connections seem a bit slow tonight.
nice detective work.
The point is that this isn't a chemical burning explosion, most explosions outside of hollywood and terrible gas station incidents aren't. Damage is done by the shockwave.
But superheated rocks can 'explode' in what looks like a fireball.

I saw a meteor explode in the sky once about four years ago. I'm surprised it didn't even end up on the local news but it happened at like 3AM so most people probably were sleeping through it. I was watching a meteor shower early in the morning, and just as I was about to go in I saw a bright flash through the sky and a bang, much like the sound of a gun going off in the distance. Was pretty cool, did no damage though.
did they have any backing for this, it seems possible it could have triggered a missile defense system or something but the impact seems fairly charictaristic of that not happening. Not an expert on extra terrestrial debris entry though.
There is literally 0% chance of a missile interceptor hitting an object the size of a watermelon going at speeds over mach 10.
It's much more probable that it exploded in mid air.
Reminds me of when the space shuttle disintegrated over my house years ago

maybe it fired and missed then detonated in the air. But i doubt a missile would produce an explosion anywhere near that loud so its a moot point im making.
Atleast someone showing somewhat of a reaction.
The distinction being things don't generally go extinct when meteors hit.
Meteors don't hit, a meteor is an object that burns up in the atmosphere.
Meteorites is any extraterrestrial object that goes through the atmosphere and hits the ground. (Meteoroid, asteroid, comet)

10 years ago this year. (1st February 2003)
It's obvious that its just some agressive marketing by window makers
I've been following this since it was reported and I still laugh at the fact everyone is going about their day like nothing happened. If this happened here in the US people would still be panicking.

what is there to panic about, it's not like the meteorite is going to hit again
also to anyone who thinks that IT WOULD BE SUPER COOL IF A METEORITE HIT US I hope that you actually get hit by a meteorite

I am learning a lot from this thread.
Also I've been watching videos of this all morning, it really is cool.

One of the KHL arenas had enough structural damage that upcoming games are cancelled.
Also some footage of doors/windows breaking in the article.

You have government-sourced missile designs of latest re-entry interception missiles that you'd like to share?

I do. It's not capable without at least a few minutes advance notice.

It's not fake, it's just not the crater impact site. It's called the "Door to Hell"

I wonder if insurance companies would pay up due to damage caused by it
