That'd be funny if most of the tech and designs where not actually american, german and french. Fuck our automotive history though, so many bad decisions made near the end of it.
At least you guys didn't go from number one in the world to Found On Road Dead.
I love how half this thread was British people trying to defend their engineering If your ships are anything like your cars I'd avoid them like the plague
I'm a bit confused. What's wrong with our ships and cars?
Are literally falling apart?
That's exactly what they're known for! LCS has some early adoption issues "The US Navy is falling apart!"
this only begs the question as to how well their submarines fair if their surface ships are trash [editline]22nd October 2016[/editline]
At least you guys didn't go from number one in the world to Found On Road Dead.
hey when youre the US navy you can fix or repair it daily
this only begs the question as to how well their submarines fair if their surface ships are trash
I'm willing to bet they maintain them just enough so that they don't kill their crews and are mostly combat effective.
I'm a bit confused. What's wrong with our ships and cars?
British cars? They were so badly mismanaged and designed that the government repeatedly stepped in to save their incompetent asses. When Ford bought out Jaguar, a Ford line engineer visited the Jaguar plant and told the supervisor that the only place he saw worse conditions was in a Soviet-era GAZ factory where they'd just paint over bird shit (from doves in the rafters) on the car bodies as they went down the line. British Leyland was plagued with so much infighting and self-competition that they accomplished nothing. Their only good mechanical component wasn't even designed by them; the Rover V8 was based on the Buick 215 V6 from 1960. Jaguar and Land Rover only become serious competitors when they acquired by an Indian truck company. I'm not familiar enough with the British shipwrights to judge them, but from what I've seen the British aerospace & defense contractors aren't half as bad as their automotive counterparts. They've produced good equipment and the only outright failures I know of is the Comet (welded airliner, would break apart mid-air) and the SA-80 which had teething problems like the M-16.
The ships in general are ok, as they have been repairing and upgrading them, as well as building the new ones for a while now. It's just they indeed don't care much about the carrier for some reason.
I thought russian engineering was the king of reliability?????
I thought russian engineering was the king of reliability?????
Maybe thats why it still floats even though its unserviced since the 80s

It has been stationed in terrible conditions, very hard to maintain, borderline impossible to renovate and upgrade. And it has indeed been neglected at least up until this point. Hopefully (it is a unique ship after all, a class of its own), it's going to be stationed in warm water and get repairs it requires. I'd hate to see it rot somewhere in a decade.
Except they're going to work when they're done, and they aren't rotten hulks from the 1980s :^)
They would have been great if they had a catapult, but they are now ramp design. So no, they won't work.
