There's a great thing called Wifi thats built into the iPad. You don't need the 3G plan unless if you're a douche.
this is just basically a larger iphone with its own internet bill and a few extra apps. Nothing revolutionary in the world of software.

You guys are insane. The tablet market has been suffering so much, and with the introduction of ths ipad there is going to be such a boost in interest that other companies will be introducing much better and more functional tablets in the future, if Apple hadn't introduced something like this the market might well have been stagnant for a few more years. You should be thanking them. I'm not even an apple fanboy, I would never buy a mac, but this tablet looks incredible, and is reasonably priced for a 10 inch multitouch factor.
I think it's shit, but I also know that Steve Jobs has been all excited about it, and he's not a guy to underestimate.
If it's a failure, I'd expect that he could put together a 2nd-gen version that fixes everything that sucks about this one.
