Is Giant Bomb News all that reliable?
Giant Bomb is reliable. Plus plenty of people reporting that the Xbox website confirms it too, it's just getting hammered at the moment.
Maybe this is how it's meant to be
"Hey guys here's a page listing all the things we're changing in response to your feedback!"
"Page cannot be found"
All these news links lead to a "page didn't exist". The page loads, but I always get that message. Still unconfirmed if you ask me.
I got the page to load but closed it after like 20 seconds cause there was too much text (sue me). But the first question bit was "Does the Xbox One require an internet Connection to use" followed by "No", then like 8 lines of text which go into the specifics of the console.
Next question was about cloud gaming, and how it improves the experience. The answer was bullet pointed with a couple of bits basically going butt power is going to improve everything about the Xbox One.
Then "Will 360 games work on the One"
"No"
and I don't remember the rest sorry!!
Hey, if this turns out to be true they should totally rename the console 'Xbox 180'.
Geddit?
[sp]I'm sure I'm totally the first person to make that joke[/sp]
Not to mention it has only been days since E3... they still have months until release. I'm guessing it was some minor policy change in preparation to their next announcement.
Maybe the press reviews from E3 have been negative enough that they're going to change? Unlikely, I know, but they can't be that stupid.

FINALLY 'when you see it you turn x degrees and walk away' would actually make sense
Who cares if getting rid of it is a change for the sake of apologising/backtracking, at least it's a change for the better, and if the company admits their wrongdoings like EA did with their Online Passes I'm all for it.
FINALLY 'when you see it you turn x degrees and walk away' would actually make sense
The Atari 2600 would kinda make sense, turning 10 lots of 260-degree rotations and walking away at an almost adjacent angle to the console :v:
Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience.
For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future.
Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One.
You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world.
So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:
An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.
In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions.
These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.
We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.
Thank you again for your candid feedback. Our team remains committed to listening, taking feedback and delivering a great product for you later this year.

Yeah, it's totally legit.
Well fuck me.

Indeed. And let it serve as a reminder for the future attempts. At least now the next-gen console war can start proper. No more false starts. :v:

If this means no more Family Plan I will be pretty peeved...
But what will the selling point for the 360 be now, it was the one that didn't require internet.

BC with the 360.
If this means no more Family Plan I will be pretty peeved...
From what I gather it will work like 360, where you have to have the disc in it for the game to play.
So you can still share the game with your family, but they can't download the game now, only play from the disc.
"In other news, Major Nelson was fired."
Well that's an improvement, if it is indeed true.
Still got loads to do to fix that mess up.
"In other news, Major Nelson was fired."
Major Nelson is the best rep Microsoft has, they have no reason to fire him.
He was only saying what he was told to.
Oh wow, it's all true. That is awesome. Now the only thing i don't like about the new Xbox is the price being over $160 more for non-US people.

Yeah, and those were two things I was looking forward to living without.

it's confirmed, http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/update
These are positive changes.
Well, I'm somewhat sold on the whole system, now.
it's confirmed, http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/update
Yep, and they also seem to have changed the used games policy and all that stuff around it.
I think I should get an achievement for preordering before the backpeddle.
Major Nelson is the best rep Microsoft has, they have no reason to fire him.

I'd fire Don Mattrick, personally.
Surely the damage has been done though. Take for me example, I've been using the XBOX LIVE service for nearly 6 years and pretty much made my mind up I was not going to make the transition to the new console after the first 5 minutes of their E3 conference. I don't like the direction they're heading. I've seen the 360 slowly deteriorate from gaming to an MLG DORITO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM and I don't want to be apart of that anymore.
I'll keep my 360, maybe even continue getting games for it down the line. But whatever the future holds it will be with the PS4. There are no exclusives worth getting the Xbone for.
so someone at Microsoft actually has a brain?
Who knew
