• Microsoft to repeal Xbox One always online/DRM

I'm actually disappointed, the Microsoft trainwreck was really entertaining.
Glad this was done, though it would have been pretty hilarious to see just how hard Microsoft would fall if they actually released the Xbox One in that state Unfortuantly the damage has already been done, and there's no real advantage the Xbox One has over the PS4... which is normally not a huge deal if it wasn't for the fact that the Xbox One is priced $100 more, and their online services offer less but cost more as well. You could say Kinect is the advantage but they'd really have to pull some magic to get me to belive that, and the features they showed off with kinect screamed gimmick when I'd much rather used my smartphone/tablet privately while playing movies or games instead of waving at the TV to do the same thing, but "publically". Lets not forget the whole TV feature too... ultimately pointless for me, since I think cable is a waste of money. I'm still pissed that the original Kinect never implemented proper headtracking for their games/UI, because if you have accurate head tracking you can create a 3DS-like 3D effect rather well. Some dude set it up with the original Wii, and we've never EVER seen anything like it yet, even though its as simple as writing the software to enable that functionality. Considering the above, the fact that none of their exclusives wowed me, the fact that the Xbox One is still technically inferior in specs (if only slightly) to the PS4, and the fact that the PS4 supposidly supports full backwards compatability with their Gaikai streaming service (we'll see if it actually works though, could be a gimmick), I'd be really suprised to see them keep the $500 price point. Sadly, I don't think they can afford to go lower with the fact that Kinect is included with every device. Which is nice in that it makes Kinect a standard for the system (something that the first kinect didn't have, which means no devs really gave a shit about it), but it sucks in that its a forced expense for something that STILL has proven itself to be just a pricey gimmick that doesn't improve gameplay or interaction with the system at all. I really doubt Kinect 2.0 is going to be faster and easier to use than just using a controller, for example (currently, Kinect isn't). But will any of this matter to the consumers at large who are aware of the PS4 and Xbox One differences? Its this kind of thing that damages the perception of your company to where you consumers no longer trust you. Considering how it was only after backlash that they removed all this stuff, it doesn't make us go "All sins are forgiven", it makes us go, "Well, if they were the type of company to seriously think this was the way to go in the first place, what does that say about other areas of the Xbox One, and what the future of the Xbox One will be like for the end-user?". You can't pour an anti-consumer foundation for your product, then just cover that foundation up saying you've fixed the things that prevented you from getting lots of pre-orders and expect everyone will be okay with that. The xbox platform was still designed and poured in with that foundation, that mentality, that company mantra. The fact that it was there in the first place makes me lose confidence in Xbox as a whole, because they are clearly not on the correct wavelength for me to take their product seriously now or in the future.
kind of funny it seems they removed the family 10 plan thing to punish us or whatever. Because really, why couldn't they do it for downloaded games? oh well. Collateral damage for a much better end. I was thinking people were hyping it up just to defend the system anyway, as it always seemed gimmicky and probably had a lot of strings attached.
Since the announcement
I find this whole situation somewhat surreal from the perspective of a rather connected consumer. I am watching E3 live and can see in real time people's reactions on twitter, FB, and chat windows. And it's clear what many people are looking for and the constant hating on MS and their policies and all the coverage over every small detail MS is doing. And then a few days later they reverse some of the most notable ones just seems so cool to me. A company as big as MS actually changing some fundamental policies on a primary AAA console so soon after announcing it and it's titles.
i was almost hoping they would fail so spectacularly that it would become a sony/nintendo race again that's shit for the industry but it would've been amusing to me at least until the repercussions started coming in
they fix something that you guys were mad about and you still jump on the hate bandwagon give them a break ffs
Since the announcement
It's been that way for a couple of days. Waiting for you to rate everyone boxes.
In too deep, im getting a PS4, fuck microsoft. As a consumer, i still feel like ive been slapped in the face.
they fix something that you guys were mad about and you still jump on the hate bandwagon give them a break ffs
uh yeah because they were pushing this horseshit in the first place and only changed it when it became abundantly clear that it was going to heavily effect sales they didn't have a change of heart and go "oh we're sorry we tried to force that shit on you it's wrong"
Nice backpedal Microsoft. Good that someone had some sense to realize that if they launched with these restrictions it would have imploded immediately.
Since the announcement
They've been paying Amazon sense the start to put it up there, it's not actually accurate.
http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/update needs to be in OP
they fix something that you guys were mad about and you still jump on the hate bandwagon give them a break ffs
Still a lot of things wrong, and for a company to jerk around and say "fuck you" to their user-base still warrants the hate. I hope the Xbox part of microsoft fails/crashes/has record lows in sales. The devs all need a slap on the head with a stick, and get booted from the industry.
they fix something that you guys were mad about and you still jump on the hate bandwagon give them a break ffs
Nah I'm just gonna keep laughing at the overpriced piece of shit.
They've been paying Amazon sense the start to put it up there, it's not actually accurate.
from what I've heard xbox one has been outselling ps4 in pre-orders for whatever reason
Since the reveal I haven't had any interest in the Xbone, for good reasons. And after hearing PSN is going to start charging, I've given up on consoles entirely. I've been using PSN for a couple years and I would never pay for such an inconsistent service, I've never been able to get a solid week of using PSN without some random inconvenience or just having it completely go down. Plus the concept of paying for the privilege to access the internet I'm already paying for makes me sick. In summary, it's time to start building a PC.
from what I've heard xbox one has been outselling ps4 in pre-orders for whatever reason
Amazon put out something saying quite the opposite. EDIT: Couldn't find it, but I found this.
Would have bought it anyway but sure, this is great news! So they totally scrap the "family list" for sharing games? Because i kind of liked the theory behind it?
from what I've heard xbox one has been outselling ps4 in pre-orders for whatever reason
Because not everyone reads facepunch and follows the hate bandwaggon.
from what I've heard xbox one has been outselling ps4 in pre-orders for whatever reason
Every gamestop I go to or hear from is 2:1 Ps4 to Xbone Sales numbers released show Ps4 running laps around the bone Every poll on the net says the Ps4 is over the bone. It ain't true. Edit: Haha ZachPL really is the biggest xbox fanboy isn't he :v:? The rumors are true!
Even with Xbone's DRM being removed, the PS4 still does everything the Xbone can do, except both better and $100 cheaper. The PS+ service's benefits are better than the recently added benefits of Live, the PS4 has far better Indie support by being an open platform, you don't have to have PS+ to use all of the ancillary shit like Netflix, plus you don't have the Kinect sensor. The PS4 is still objectively better than the Xbone at this point. Unless Microsoft comes out with backwards compatibility with 360 games or announces a model that doesn't have a Kinect on it, that is not going to change.
In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions.
wow
These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.
are they taking back their "family plan sharing" thing..? that would suck [editline]19th June 2013[/editline]
Every gamestop I go to or hear from is 2:1 Ps4 to Xbone Sales numbers released show Ps4 running laps around the bone Every poll on the net says the Ps4 is over the bone.
Since the announcement
That's been in the number one slot since the Day One PS4 sold out, that list is best sellers for only the past few days Here's the best sellers for 2013 overall: http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2013/videogames/ref=zg_bs_tab_t_bsar

Hopefully they do what you mentioned and keep it for digitally downloaded titles because it is still a great feature that they should promote.

Reading numerous sites that say they stopped taking preorders on the bone, I have a few friends that work there that say the same thing, and just hearing it fucking everywhere. I've even been able to peek at a screen myself at my local gamestop, Xbone had about 8 preorders out of their allotted 15 and ps4 was roughly 20 or so.
Because not everyone reads facepunch and follows the hate bandwaggon.
It's not just Facepunch that hated it, it was the majority of the gaming community as a whole.
