Fallout 4? DOOM 4? Dishonored 2? Bethesda to host its own press conference for this year's E3.
i dont know what bethesda have to bring to the table anymore, at least for me
a new doom seems like an odd investment. shooters have been falling out of favour for the past few years, but i guess retro-revival stuff and also horror is doing much better, especially after seeing the success (critically and somewhat commercially) of wolfenstein
fallout4 seems more like the obvious winner in terms of the market but personally i wouldn't have high hopes for that
dishonoured was really nice for a new IP and a pretty solid game but it was surprisingly short and is the kind of title i totally forget exists, let alone that i bought it and played it. i doubt a sequel would sell especially well or generate enough widespread hype enough to warrant having a press conference centered around
I don't know. I don't really like dishonored, personally, and I know I'm one of the few. This is going to seem weird, but it felt too much like Bioshock to me, and I hate Bioshock. Bethesda, to me, always represents the hope of a new Elder Scrolls or Fallout game.
If they were to make a direct successor / sequel to Dishonored, i'd rather they not be so dickish about non-lethal playthroughs. Your non-lethal options are extraordinarily limited when the game is designed so much to emphasize killing in various ways, but if you go around killing folks you've sent the city into chaos, spread disease, and are obviously a complete monster that would bring about a societal collapse. Obviously selling a woman off to a fate worse than death on the pacifist route is better than simply killing her instead.

I'm in the same boat.
Although I do like Bioshock, but the rip-off like vibe and short game playtime were a downer regarding Dishonored.

You ever play System Shock 2? If they continued THAT franchise in the same vein, instead of Bioshock, I'd be ecstatic.

Gave it a short play-through awhile back, Seemed promising, but I was busy with real-life shit so I forgot about it after playing it for an hour.
I'd be a little bit worried about it being compared to Deus Ex, but it wouldn't be as blatant.

the engine nor the graphics were the problem. it was the shallow quests (almost every single quest i can think of involved a fucking dungeon and fetching something) along with limited character development, less dialogue options, and the really short main quest.
I agree with you but I want to point something out: The main quest is not the point of Bethesda games anymore, it's about being tossed into a giant sandbox and getting lost in it, the main quest is pretty much just there now to railroad you towards the more prominent side quests and other stuff.
A prime example of this is how the main quest in Skyrim drives you towards a lot of the guild quest lines, which subsequently take you all over Skyrim and introduce you to MORE of the sandbox content.
all the side quests were fucking around in a cave or a dungeon too
I honestly can't bring myself to even remotely finish New Vegas, it's simply a bug fest, world is poorly designed and boring, it feels very clunky, list goes on, it's one of those games that would fare better being top down classic rpg rather than fps due to story being the main focus, also I'm sure Obsidian, they don't have any first person game experience.
actually you have bethesda rushing them and using a poorly designed game to boot to purely blame on

Who cares, you still pay for it.
but that's not evil, it's just naive. legion literally crucifies and enslaves people

I don't care what they wanted to do, what they did is what's important
Bear in mind that the legion is the way it is because Bethesda forced obsidian to rush new vegas.
Arizona was meant to be a fully explorable worldspace alongside the Mojave that was host to nearly all the legion content but thanks to being rushed it never got in. They tried to alleviate the legion's lack of development through the DLCs but because the main game was already out, there wasn't much else they could do.
Seriously, nearly every issue with New Vegas can be linked back to the fact that obsidian had a horrible deadline to meet.
And yeah, Fallout 3 has the superior world design and atmosphere, that goes without saying. But the story is just really lackluster. It doesn't help nearly every settlement feels completely disconnected from the rest of the plot as a result of bethesda's typical writing style.

Fallout 3 had terrible world design. Almost the entire map was completely empty and none of the settlements had any connection to each other. Settlements were literally a couple of building in the middle of fucking nowhere, with a shitty wire fence or cobbled together wooden walls for protection. The only place that felt even remotely connected to the world was Underworld, and even that was just because it was in the middle of the city.
Plot related, NV has to be far superior.
Has a crapton of references to past games -specifically FO2-, lot of weapons that appeared in the past. Quests have more options/ramifications. An ending like the first 2 games with various outcomes for everyone. Factions aren't that Black and White. There are a lots of greys unlike FO3 where the BOS are the good guys and Mutants/Enclave clearly the son of bitches.
There's more to explore and find.
More gameplay mechanics related to survival.
Companions have a lot more background/story -Hands down Boone best one-
And well, I forgot what else
EDIT: Plus, iron sights. Nothing better than blowing raider heads off with a .44 magnum. Instant satisfaction.
Sorry Raul best story all stories.

By world design I meant the level of detail; when you compare the mojave to the capitol wasteland the former just feels really flat and bland in some areas. Didn't help that there's no random encounters in NV.
Again, I blame the game being rushed.

I thought there was a few random encounters with Wild Wasteland enabled, though I might be wrong.

Public thread, my own personal opinion, why would you give a shit about it so much, it's your own problem if you get upset by this.

While it is your opinion, some of your points don't really make sense.
Your point about how it would be better as a top-down rpg, for example, doesn't really make sense. There is plenty of FPS games where the main focus is the story that don't suck. I don't see how changing the genre would change how effective the story is.

A Top Down RPG would require less development in comparison to FPS where the world design is ridiculously important.

the only reason you posted about how much you dislike fallout is because you wanted to start shit and you know it
what you're doing is like a hardcore conservative running into an open-air democrat convention and announcing to the world "FUCK OBAMA, SANTORUM 2016" and bitching about how it's just his ~opinion~ when people inevitably take issue

Last time I checked this is a thread about Bethesda, so I am free to voice my opinion, go wipe yourself with it if you don't like it.
you're pretty fucking hostile buckaroo
You're both being a bit silly. Its his opinion but frankly is only remotely related to this thread and I think would be better suited for the Fallout thread.
I'm sure we'll see something about Doom 4 and possibly Fallout 4 at this event.

go away
Why these companies, having such great IPs, don't remake the first games or bring them to today's standards.
I mean, if they made FO2 or FO1 on a 3d Engine with all the story, all the items, all the places, put some new stuff into it and implemented good gameplay mechanics ala FONV...I would buy it full price right out of the bat.
I need, at least once in my lifetime, to experience a 3D combat against the Master or see New Reno/Vault City in a 4th generation 3D engine.
EDIT: Come on, It's a no brainer.
EDIT2:
factions in new vegas are pretty black and white too. you have the NCR who are providing fresh food and water to the people of the mojave, and you have the legion who is enslaving them
That's the NCR until you discover that their guys massacred a lot of people, didn't got through trials for that. Failing to police and serve justice properly. Confiscate and use property of people. Lots of corruption and so on. Military, they are a bunch of retards who only rely on mass attacks no matter the human costs. Evidenced by the attack on the HELIOS facility against the BoS
The legion for it's part, even though being the ISIS equivalent of Nevada, they impose order and as far as I knew, not all of them were enslaving pricks. Caesar was trying by the wrong methods, to stop Nevada tribes and people from warring against each other.
Mr House, could be seen as the guy who cared for his native city, but in reality he was only after the profit and power, he could care less about the people who lived around him -evidenced by the situation outside the casinos- and by the ending, saying that the streets were "cold and ruled with efficiency".
IF, IF, obsidian had had more time, I have no doubt these characters and factions would have been waaaaay more fleshed out and had more faces.
I' m expecting a bunch of stuff about Doom, maybe Dishonored, and then a fallout teaser at the end. Hopefully showing off a new engine.

I'd rather have a new experience than play something i've already played with different gameplay mechanics.
The first games wouldn't benefit from being shooters, they're turn-based strategy games. They should stay that way just because of legacy, somethings are just better untouched.
fallout 3 has a perfectly fine story and more immersive gameplay
When was the last time you even played Fallout 3 ?
