Holy crap!
I have the little windows icon in my tray..
Hell yeah!
It totally fucked me up
I have Windows 7 and when I read this article I looked down at my tray and there's just a little Windows 10 icon sitting there
I was like "holy shit buddy where did you come from?!" and it just quietly, deeply moaned "teeeeen..."
People still think this?
It's still true. I don't need my desktop OS to have swipe functionality.
They make it sound like you won't require a format
Noticed it on my fathers win7 laptop
Guided him through it, meaning that he knows what to do when mum gets home and sees it on hers
My older brother is also here, and he probably hasn't seen it yet, so he would most likely take over because he's intrigued
would i need to back anything up for upgrading? or are files not touched at all?
you dont
It isn't necessary when upgrading from W7?
you dont
That makes upgrading much more appealing
I have this update installed but I don't see anything in my taskbar for it.
edit: It just showed up.
It's still true. I don't need my desktop OS to have swipe functionality.
Windows 8 doesn't really have swipe functionality unless you configure the start screen manually to have a bunch of icons though.
People still think this?
People somehow figured that "more tablet friendly" meant "less desktop friendly"
In reality it's better for both, as it's generally faster.
Free upgrade, like, free forever or just for one year ?
Free upgrade, like, free forever or just for one year ?
You have one year to upgrade for free, then it's free until the world ends
After one year since release, if you wish to upgrade you will have to pay
I'd rather wait for the first service pack before upgrading tbh. Windows usually never launches smoothly.
Service packs aren't a thing since Windows 8
on one hand i wanna upgrade just so i'm up to date with the latest hip OS, but on the other hand i really like windows 7. i don't want to upgrade right away in case there are launch issues too. and i don't have a means of backing up all my data just in case. gonna play the waiting game like I did with XP. :v:
Some next level shit, I opened this thread and went to my taskbar to look for windows updates and the icon for this was there :tinfoil:
It isn't necessary when upgrading from W7?
You can upgrade all the way from Windows 1.0 to Windows 8 without reinstalling, and there's no reason why it'd be different for Windows 10.
It's still true. I don't need my desktop OS to have swipe functionality.
But some people do. People who want a full desktop OS that can do everything their PC can on their tablet.
Or laptop/AIO with touchscreen, for that matter.
Really hoping it'll let me upgrade it and do a reformat, I don't want any leftover crap from 8.1
Is there a some sort of difference between regions or what?
I don't have this icon, and I've installed the update.
Any thoughts from those who have installed the preview? How is it?
Friend of mine has used the preview for a few months now and I've only had positive feedback from him so far, only few issues he has with it are things that are most definitely linked to it being a preview build and not a final product (ie VPNs not working properly).

8.1 was a service pack...

Yep, availability of this depends on what region you're in. I'm in the U.S and it took a while for the update to pop up. It's a bit unassuming because it's just the Windows 10 logo that magically appears in your system tray.
8.1 was a service pack...
It's actually another OS release, let's say like ubuntu versions
Who knows spanish?

My biggest complaint with Windows 8, which has since been fixed, was the way right-clicking on tiles in the start menu was handled for mouse, which was a bar came up across the top or bottom (I don't recall) with the options, instead of a context menu right next to your cursor. It was a massive pain (I use "open in a new window" a lot) and clearly was a design decision that was more touch friendly and less mouse friendly.
The fact that its free made this more of a nice surprise rather than an annoying advertisement.

It says "Windows 10 will work on this device"
This device can update, but however you may face some problems.
! Devices ____
Those devices aren't full compatible with Windows 10
AMD Radeon HD 8510G
You will have problems with the card.
the button reads Reserve
I didn't have the icon, went to take a piss, then came back and the icon was there.
It's like they designed it to be as stealthy as possible.
So I'm one of the less savvy users this is probably targeted towards, and I'm using windows 7. I've never upgraded a computer, just bought brand new ones ('upgraded' from windows xp.)
If I upgrade will that require a hdd wipe(I'm guessing it will?) And will it make all my games/programs incompatible?
Also how the fuck do I get the notification for it out of my damn taskbar?
You can upgrade windows installs, from XP to Vista, Vista to Windows 7, 7 to 8, etc.
This is an exception and you'll be able to upgrade from both Windows 7, and Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.
You don't need to format, nothing will get wiped, and all your programs will continue to function.
Also i haven't tried but,

Would probably be the easiest way, but there is also some stuff about it in op.
It's actually another OS release, let's say like ubuntu versions
It was literally just a renaming of service pack so people would take another look at the PR mess 8 was at launch. An 8 key will work with an 8.1 install disk.
I haven't updated my 7 install since 2011 :v:
So could I switch to the current almost-finished version of windows 10 and eventually it'll update to the complete version when it's released?
