So, someone who has windows 10, how many games become unplayable? That's the only reason I'm weary, as some games only worked on XP and now I cannot play them on 8.1. (hi fallout 3)
Well when I moved to W10 Black Ops 2 will absolutely not work. Same happened to my other friends that moved to W10. They can't play it either even though all the other CoD titles work lol
Welp, I guess that either means my laptop can't get it because it's OEM or it's just too shit to run W10.
It may not mean either. My install definitely isn't an OEM one and it's more than good enough to run Windows 10 but I have yet to get the icon even after getting the proper update even though the files are definitely in the location someone posted earlier in the thread.
One of my friends got the icon earlier and he didn't have it before so just leave it a while and you'll probably get it.
Well, I've got the update but no icon hopefully it'll show up soon
I have the files in C:\windows\system32\GWX but no update icon, and running the GWX.exe fails, nothing even tries to open it seems. Frustrating, I want my icon! :tinfoil:
once I'm on windows 9.1 with an oculus rift or other, and a steam controller or grifta, I'll feel like I have a totally new computer entirely damnit I'm hype
Finally got that icon. I can barely wait for the upgrade.
i honestly thought it was malware of sorts at first because it looked so poorly done and the link didn't work
Welp, I guess that either means my laptop can't get it because it's OEM or it's just too shit to run W10.
This tool from Microsoft will help you figure it out. It hasn't appeared for me either though, and I am on a legit windows 7 retail install so I dunno what's going on. (Although, my install has some history so I might do a fresh install on a USB stick just to get the upgrade at some point if it doesn't appear)
Reserved my copy of Windows 10 through the prompt in the taskbar, but I don't see anything in mail (as it asked me to provide). Is it supposed to be like that? I had figured I'd get a confirmation.
I think the confirmation email is just kind of slow, it took a day or two before mine showed up
Will Intel graphics cards (HD 4000) support DirectX 12? I see a lot for AMD and NVidia but not Intel.
I thought it was a virus and starting scanning every intimidate folder it was related to, which was some folder in my System 32 and I cleaned it out. The button to "reserve" a copy of Windows 10 is gone. If anyone can help me with this, thanks. Personally I don't care too much about it because from what I've heard Windows 10 doesn't include much performance improving capabilities.

There isn't a thing performance wise that Windows 7 has over it, so I don't know where you heard that.
i've been wondering... , when we get the option to upgrade to windows 10, will we also get an option to turn it into 64 bit? if we're running a 32 bit system? haven't found a single answer about that.
Still don't get why they haven't dropped 32bit support.
I just installed all the latest windows updates - Including the one that should do this. But nothing. No icon for reserving anything. I am on an OEM license, so that might be why.
Smaller install size, less memory usage, and DX12. There isn't a thing performance wise that Windows 7 has over it, so I don't know where you heard that.
Generally speaking, yes, it can be argued that W10's improvements may only be marginally improved from 7, but any argument against the upgrade is totally nullified by the fact that it's free. Unless you have a very specific problem with your computer to prevent you from getting 10, there's pretty much no reason not to upgrade. Regardless of how big the upgrade is, it's a free upgrade. [editline]4th June 2015[/editline]
Still don't get why they haven't dropped 32bit support.
Probably because some people are still going to be running 10 on their old 32 bit Vista machines until that generation of computers finally kicks the bucket
I'm really intrigued, I just don't want to break more of my old games. Every new version of Windows breaks another couple games. I've reserved it on my laptop since I don't screw around with it as much. My desktop on the other hand, I need it to function.
i believe it started appearing on OEM versions of windows earlier today. also lots of older games can be fixed in 8/8.1 to setting them to use a single core.
Pepper;47855268']Have fun with having more known security holes than a colander.
Reminds me of a joke my lecturer said during his lecture.
How do you get viruses on Windows XP? You turn on the Internet

Still don't get why they haven't dropped 32bit support.
A lot of cheap Windows tablets only have 1-2 GB of RAM. They still use 32 bit Windows despite Atoms being 64 bit because of the reduced memory footprint and smaller install. Also, virtual machines, for the same reason. 32 bit still has its uses, albeit, it's niche use cases.
I once had to install 32-Bit Windows 8 on a small laptop because it completely ignored any 64bit install disks.

Some really old ones might have graphical or resolution glitches sure, but those can be solved easily.
What games did Windows 8.1 or even windows 7 broke? [editline]5th June 2015[/editline] Also 8 broke GTAIV for me :v:
If your system is deemed incompatible it kills itself as soon as it runs.
I wish it could tell us why it's incompatible instead of just instantly ending itself ._.
