We're better off trying to find a way to destroy drugs completely really. I'm suprised no one has tried engineering some sort of chemical or something that kills the plants the drugs come from (No i'm not implying that all drugs come from plants) without damaging anything else. I personally hope someone gets on that. (Waiting for all of the potheads and "lol freedom of choice" people to rate this post dumb)
this is a terrible idea you sound like someone who thinks drug users are inferior
No shit its speculation, everything is. But it's still likely that the cartels will lash out.
But what evidence leads you to believe this aside from some very basic, basic understanding about cartels?
I'm not talking about a few people being made example of. I'm talking about thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands getting killed.
The thing about the drug war is that it's profitable; the majority of violence is a struggle for control. What profit can any group expect from massacring swaths of civilians and going toe to toe with the Mexican military?
But it doesn't really matter since it's not going to be legalized and won't be for a long, long time.
But that's not the argument.
If anything, I think the military still has some substantial power right?
If that. The cartels recruit soldiers from the military, hell the Zetas are made up exclusively of ex-soldiers and cops. The bribes from the cartels would be much larger than military pay as well. The cartels truly run the country in my opinion, there is really nothing the government or military can really do.
Dear God. Mexico, man. Shit's going bad really, really fast.
Dear God. Mexico, man. Shit's going bad really, really fast.
It's been bad for ages. It's just started getting attention in the news.
If anything, I think the military still has some substantial power right?
No, this is the Mexican army we're talking about.
Is it just me, or is it getting worse?
I've already said this, but what's sad is that this is Mexico when it is fighting back the cartels. See for yourself. THIS WAS MEXICO IN 2007 THIS IS MEXICO IN 2010 That's over half of the country overrun with those bastards!
According to some mexican residents on another forum I go to, this shit's been going on for a WHILE. In fact I think it's gotten to the point where the cartels are just flaunting their control over the nation just for the fuck of it. I'd imagine that soon it'll get to the point where not only the US but the entire UN will have to get together and decide that this shit needs to stop before it starts spreading across the borders (I mean, starts spreading more than it already has).
On the bright side the kids got 5 new footballs to play with.

(Waiting for all of the potheads and "lol freedom of choice" people to rate this post dumb)
i don't think being a pothead or a 'lol freedom of choice' person is required to think that this post is dumb as shit. you're saying how unrealistic it is to think that legalization would help the situation and this is your great alternative idea???? come up with some magic chemical that specifically kills off drug crops??? assuming it wouldn't also kill off every other crop this is also a terrible idea because shitloads of legal drugs come from plants too. but hey yeah lets kill off the opium poppy, no more morphine for our hospitals but at least there's no more heroin!!!!
When I say legalize, I don't only mean Mexico. Legalization in America will cut cartel profits.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-15086909 WTF, you fucking cartels just can't stop doing this kind of sadistic shit. This is just sick.
I'm not surprised that this story.... *puts on sunglasses* made headlines. But seriously yeah, shit is gross.
When I say legalize, I don't only mean Mexico. Legalization in America will cut cartel profits.
What about all the other shit they transfer that isn't weed?
What about all the other shit they transfer that isn't weed?
Everyone needs their daly dose of cocaine.
When I say legalize, I don't only mean Mexico. Kids are going to be scared now. This is a shame, as going to school is the best way to get ahead in life. (or 5)
What about all the other shit they transfer that isn't weed?
legalize also
legalize also
Yes, because why let the drug cartels kill everyone when we can do the job ourselves by overdosing on cocaine or meth?
Yes, because why let the drug cartels kill everyone when we can do the job ourselves by overdosing on cocaine or meth?
Legalizing cocaine = everyone does it then dies okay professor
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, MEXICO

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, MEXICO

It's full of racial prejudice and poor people.
Yes, because why let the drug cartels kill everyone when we can do the job ourselves by overdosing on cocaine or meth?
so if cocaine or meth was legal you'd do it huh?
Ok seriously, Mexico get your shit together. If the US wasn't in the shit state we currently find ourselves in (crippling economic recession, two other wars) we probably would have intervened at this point, but really all we can do is sit and watch the country burn down and try and mitigate anything that spills over the border.
They have substantial power, sure, but how much of it have they been using? They've been doing everything short of rolling down the streets in tanks and dropping bombs on cartel's mansions, and you know what? If a cartel or two were to be bombed out, I don't think you'd hear a single complaint. I'd probably raise hell and make things about a hundred times worse, but the fact that the cartels have the ability to bring the heat to the military is the scariest part.
I agree with you, people wouldn't complain a single bit probably. Bring the heat? Like fighting against them or scaring them?
unless its a farm
Legalizing won't help at all. It's not like the cartels are just going to disappear.
Legalizing won't help at all. It's not like the cartels are just going to disappear.
just like the mafia is still massively in power after alcohol became legal right
just like the mafia is still massively in power after alcohol became legal right
Yes. If anything it's probably just going to piss them off even more.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mafia_during_Prohibition For the Mafia and the gangsters, prohibition meant employment, easy money, good times, shiny new cars, and new suits.[3] The Mafia's tainted profits from bootlegging far exceeded that from prostituting, loan sharking, bookmaking, extorting and other racketeering.[4] Thus, in part, the action of Prohibition facilitated the atmosphere that the Mafia was exploiting; it financially enriched the Mafia, allowing its activities to fester, and it developed and fed the them a new network of associates, enabling the Mafia's overall influence to grow.
what does that remind me of hmmm [editline]29th September 2011[/editline]
Yes. If anything it's probably just going to piss them off even more.
you realize that the mafia lost so much fucking power after prohibition its not even funny right? [editline]29th September 2011[/editline] wait wait it gets better
Business was good and the bootlegging business even better. In the 1930s, prohibition petered out. This coincided with a declining economy and ultimately the great depression. As a result of these less than prosperous times, some of the smaller Mafia factions which arose because of prohibition disappeared altogether.
WHat does that remind me of now huh i wonder
just like the mafia is still massively in power after alcohol became legal right
I didn't know the Mafia ran half the US and nearly had the Police running scared.
