I think it will be implemented the same way the family library will be on xbox one where you can share your whole library with a select amount of people, letting them play your games whenever and whereever (but you cant play the same game at the same time etc)

these are NOT rentals.
Steam has self-publishing and the system enjoys the advantages of PC being an open platform. Xbox1 will never be like Steam.
unless it allows self-publishing and opens their platform lol
anyone want to borrow (please take) my 10 copies of DOTA 2 with me?
what I want to see is, take a 60 dollar game and the ability to rent it for 5 days for 5 dollars. You can play it full versionwith that time, but after that, nope. After renting, 5 dollars is removed from the total price, as you rented it for 5 dollars.
This means "Try before you buy pirating" is much more useless.
They should also take download time out of the time limit
I'd rather giftable copies of every extra game you happen to have. Would make it possible to actually follow the "your use only" rules on Humble Bundle steam keys.
also parental controls, if what im seeing in the changes are true
FYI the strings are legit, they're in steamui_english in your steam installation.
FINALLY I CAN SHARE SECRET OF THE MAGIC CRYSTALS WITH ALL MY FRIENDS
thank you valve xoxoxo
It sounds more like a family account sort of thing, maybe you would pay more for a game, so that you can then lend it out to people, or maybe more then one person logs into the same shared account...
actually it's possible this will work exactly like the xbox1 :)
Yep, except with higher prices/no steam-like sales, archaic restrictions, and a ton of multiplatform games available on better systems.
Soon the "it's just like steam excuse" with the Xbox One will no longer be valid
[sp]Even though it wasn't in the first place.[/sp]
It seems like now everyone wants a shot at punching Microsoft in the balls.
It's probably to make the Steambox more competitive, if they release it as it is, there will be inevitable comparisons with the Xbone and they have already seen the backlash for that.
I have always wanted some sort of music player integration on the steam overlay or something like they had on MSN which told your friends what you were listening too
But before they do any of that they really need to recode that whole overlay, its a huge buggy piece of shit
The title is misleading. It doesn't look like literally being able to share existing games with people.
From the text it looks like multiple people will be able to, say, chip in half each for a shared license....So it appears on both their accounts but can only be played by one at a time. Would be useful for siblings etc with an account each but only one computer, that way they can have their own separate copy on their account without buying the game twice
*EDIT*
Nevermind, was first thing in the morning and I read it wrong.
That feature sounds really convenient. The makeshift version of multiple people trusting each other creating a Steam account where everyone buys for it and plays from it was always kinda whimsical in multiple regards.
I don't think I'll be jumping onto Spotify for Steam tho, I'll stick with X-Fire (nope, still not dead) that detects Winamp in the background and lets me control it.

More new/changed stuff in the Steam beta.
Also, Spotify integration (I think).
If this means I could use Spotify without a Facebook account that would make me really happy.
imagine the console tears.... delicious.

This.
I like the concept of Spotify but I hate facebook and will never register on it.

Can't just give it it's own music player? I hate having to alt-tab out to change around in my playlist.

Huh? Was I talking about anything but the lending system? If we want to open that whole bag meh, we'd probably have to both conclude that no console is worth a damn, not the xbox1, not the ps4 and not the wiiU, the only difference between them is by what kind of a scale they are worse.
This.

It already allows you to register without using facebook.

i think its like you can pay a bit of the price game and your friend pay another part and then both of you have it

No, the text says that someone is a borrower and that the owner can boot them from the game if they're already playing.
"SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicenseLocked_OwnerT ext" "Just so you know, your games are currently in use by %borrower%. Playing now will send %borrower% a notice that it's time to quit."
You mean..... My friend can finally trade me Bad Rats? :downs:
It's basically the same as lending other people game discs before the digital-download-age, you pay for it, but if you give it to someone else you can't play it until they give it back, and they can only play it until they give it back.
[editline]19th June 2013[/editline]
What I hope doesn't happen as a result is a price rise for everything on Steam, I could buy a mostly singleplayer game (eg Dishonored), play through it, then lend it to my friend and they play through it. Now Steam (and the developers) have lost out on a sale. I believe an article a week or so ago explained that this is why prices for console games are so high.
Yeah, I am really wondering how this will work considering disc games are much harder to share then a digital copy considering you can give it to someone in America from Europe in a few seconds.
This might return the factor of limiting installs /share for some games

I was not aware of that.
Well in any case, it would be nice to link the 2 together.

It would be nice if it was available in my current region. I'm using some crappy site called grooveshark.
The thing that makes it funny is Steams becoming more casual with their notices...
Why the fuck do 5 of my friends have this...
It's a fairly hardcore RPG.
I wonder what the constraints will be on borrowing.
Spotify integration could be cool but I'd rather a basic media player able to play local files and have a media library or something.
