Title is a bit misleading, it's not really canceled, they're just working on another game while they try to get the legal IP name back since they still haven't required the license for the name of the game.
Guild Wars 2, it's one of the most high quality MMOs ever made and it's F2P. Subscription based MMOs aren't always high quality, look at games like SWTOR, they spent hundreds of millions of dollars on it and it's awful.
Guild wars 2 isn't out yet, but yes I believe it'll be incredible. Also I am a subcriber to SWTOR and I have to disagree, I think it's a fantastic game! Far better than any F2P mmo I've ever played and better than a lot you have to pay for.
Yes, it has a price on the box, but it's still F2P after that, there's no subscription fee and there's nothing that involves paying to win.
How is it free to play if you have to pay to play the game?
It will suck. Please stop buying anything with the F2P model. It is ruining the industry.
Super Monday Night Combat would like a word with you.
So, taking stalker 2 and making it a free MP game....cool
Yes, it has a price on the box, but it's still F2P after that, there's no subscription fee and there's nothing that involves paying to win.
so wait by your logic the original stalker games are free to play
so wait by your logic the original stalker games are free to play
Well he said MMO's
I tried so hard to love Stalker, but I just couldn't get into it. I still am really upset that this one is cancelled, despite the hard times I've had with the other three games.
Stalker wasn't an MMO, for fucks sake READ.
How does being an MMO affect development in relation to the pricing model exactly? All that not having a sub fee and instead relying on entry fee does is make GW2 more similar to a Battlefield or old STALKER game. If anything not having a sub fee pushes the development even further away from games without an entry fee by lifting the requirement for updates to keep users flowing in or paying their monthly sub.
I can't handle the ignorance! F2P is the future of MMOs and a few other games, look at games like TF2 and Guild Wars to see it done right, there's no "pay to win" items, it's all cosmetic, or in the case of TF2 you can buy weapons you could craft or wait to drop for free. In this day and age you have to be monumentally retarded to release a subscription based MMO, no one plays them for more than six months, proof being games like Rift and SWTOR, and pretty much every other subscription MMO sans WoW and EVE. If you think F2P is "ruining the industry" you've got a lot to learn, go look up Guild Wars 2, or Dota 2.
TF2 is the best example of why F2P blooooows. If you wanted a game you can start playing today without balance issues because not everybody has every weapon, then you should go look somewhere else. I hate this idea that it gets a free pass because you "can" get everything for free, if you wait like a fucking idiot for random drops. I really don't get why people want to play games like this. Why is it appealing to have to wait, then fuck around with trading, and even when you have everything yourself, other people don't. I hate this concept of the steam inventory and items. Now you can't just play TF2, you HAVE to deal with all this stuff. It also opens up for bullshit like promotional items. Not to mention crates are pretty manipulative, everybody at some point will fall for this kind of thing, whether it's TF2 or something else. At this point I really have no hope for dota 2. Guild wars 2 is not perfect either. It's not actually f2p though, and despite that it has a bunch of paid advantages and other items. Not as bullshit as TF2s item economy which you can't avoid, you either pay for it or don't, which I can understand a lot more, but like I said it's still not perfect and it puts me off the game. I would still play it though, because there's still a good game under there, which brings me to my final point. I don't really believe that people play games because they are f2p. Well, I mean obviously they are playing it because it is free, but I think everybody plays f2p in spite of them having all this ridiculous paid shit, not because they love having a game fucked up by f2p. I would prefer to buy a game that has no items, no meta gameplay advantages or other related f2p things, than to play f2p games.
Goodnight, sweet Strelok May snorks fly you to the wishgranter once more
Learn what free to play is for MMOs, it's NO subscription fee, and almost always involves things like cosmetic items.
Free to play is free to play. As in, it's free to play. Buying it makes it not free to play because you paid for it.
Free to play is free to play. As in, it's free to play. Buying it makes it not free to play because you paid for it.
free =/= free to play god it's a term, free is word with a meaning, free to play is a marketing term they gave meaning.
Stalker wasn't that great anyway :v:
SOC was pretty great minus the massive amounts of problems it had. The other two games were progressively more and more hasty and poorly designed. I never could get Clear Sky to work properly, though I have yet to try it on my new computer, and CoP ended up feeling more like a half-assed mod than a real game. I was looking forward to Stalker 2 though :( MMO's are lame.
Are all the people who complain about Tribes Ascend bad at the game or something? I was doing really well surviving only on base XP when I started the game
Impenetrable Forest with all parties coming to the city, crazed animals and birds are attacking industrial complexes, military installations, depots and power plants. Strange plants and fungi grow through concrete and iron. Scientists around the world trying unsuccessfully to cope with the anomaly, sprawling on the earth at an alarming rate. State of decay, anarchy sweeping the world. Now the power to decide who survived. The game is developed on a new proprietary technology Vostok Engine and due to be released on PC in late 2013. no artifact hunting :(
An idea I can think of involving keeping some of that STALKER experience is to take an All-Points Bulletin approach to the system; large open areas and 'setpieces' of sorts, and instead of going to specific NPCs and doing the same missions as everyone else, there's a randomized set of missions other Stalkers or opposing factions can try to interfere with while also having solo missions that might either be instanced by themselves or just uninterrupted by other players. When it comes to things like anomalies or weapon caches, every player nearby gets a notice via PDA and it essentially becomes a race - possibly even a conflict - to get it first ahead of everyone else. In a way, you can either work with others for safety and more of an assurance of getting those goodies and missions completed, but the pay is cut between you all so that players might play it risky and tread alone for a higher award factor. But in any case, sad to hear STALKER 2 go, and I doubt Survarium will be it's 'replacement,' just a game with some similarities and so forth. Tempted to reinstall one of the STALKER games again after my latest computer upgrade.
Are all the people who complain about Tribes Ascend bad at the game or something? I was disappointed with Ascend
NO! They can't do this! :suicide:
Stalker wasn't that great anyway :v:
Get out of here Stalker.
NNOO! I friggin love STALKER, they gave me the type of creepy atmosphere that would prevent you from going the back you came in a building, but instead jumped out the window because you believed is was better that way.
Oh god, I really don't like the idea of paying for bonuses and an xp system in stalker games.
facepunch stalker autism: the thread
OK let's set a couple of things straight. 1) Quit bitching about it being a Free-to-Play MMO. That was the company's decision, and by god they should stand by it. They haven't released any info, how anything in the game will work, or what the paid stuff will be. For all you know, it works in the same way Guild Wars did in that the outside world is instance off aside from you and 3 other people, which I think would be a fantastic idea since it'd feel like it is you and your friends against the world. 2) Tribes:Ascend JUST got released. You can't expect everything to be in the game all at once. Plus, the paid system works perfectly fine in that. I get about 2000 XP per match WITHOUT VIP or boosters. Classes are cheap, and you don't really NEED the kits to do well. I play a Pathfinder with the default kit and used XP to upgrade/buy perks and weapons. I only got 250 free gold from Facebook and all I did with that is buy a class. Speaking of, the defensive classes work fine by default as well. Juggernaut? I haven't even upgraded it and I can defend better than a Doombringer who has all the best defensive stuff. It is all a matter of how good you are at the game.
I wish they kept the name, part of the reason I liked S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was because of the ominous acronym, why could they call it STALKERS since its multiplayer. And obviously the devs weren't too good at doing mp as seen by the games lackluster mp. Its sad to see GSC go, I remember still Cosssacks Napoleonic Wars. In my mind STALKER ends here, with your imagination to feed the rest of it, it was a good series and remember it for that.
Quick someone make a kickstarter for stalker successor.
Stalker 1 was great, just need to patch it out and it'll work fine. Clear Sky was okay, COP was shit. Could of done better and fixed more bugs. Anyway, now we got this MMO that maybe no one will play. It's free to play when you buy it? no pay fee? It's a question dumb asses down the bottom you two are jerks. :p
I hope sergei dies from a pepsi overdose.
