• How video 'pranksters' are cashing in on the abuse and harassment of women

I think it's time they cracked down on this shit some more. Honestly I'd pay to see a video of this guy getting arrested by a cop after one of these dumb pranks, and when he protests to the policeman, the cop should say 'it's just a prank bro' while hauling him into the cop car.
I wouldn't be surprised he ends up facing a magistrate for sexual harassment Sounds like one of those people who believe they have to do crazy shit in order to get peoples attention.
Pretty sure women get targeted by kissing and ass grabbing type "pranks" more often than men.
What type of prank you suffer differs by gender, of course. But why only focus on the type that happen to women when there is a gamut of differing abusive pranks that happen to everyone, women get their asses pinched, black guys get goaded into fighting others so they can be called ghetto, men get fake kidnapped trying to sell their shit on craigslist. Writing about prank videos and only mentioning women is like writing about the holocaust and only mentioning gypsies, pardon that hyperbole.
How in the fuck is a woman denying a man a random out of nowhere kiss in any way detestable. It's not some arrogant feminazi response she gave, it's basic fucking self assertion. Someone asks you to do something, you say no. If they don't accept the no, tell them to fuck off. It's the most simple interaction you can have in our society.
He's right though. Celebrities have the paparazzi follow them around everywhere and take photos. How is that any different?
That's pretty fucked too. Just because someone's known by the public doesn't mean they forfeit all right to being left the fuck alone if they want to be.
I hate it when people get harassed by anyone. These videos are annoying to me.
thats ridiculous. its a space thats under "public" ownership. why can't you be filmed by another private citizen? what if you were just filming a home movie with some friends and someones face got in it, could they sue you? what the heck
alright lad I'll just follow you around filming your face wherever you go in public, surely I'm allowed to! [editline]3rd June 2016[/editline] Theres a difference between someone getting caught in the background of footage and someone being recorded in an interview

When they're "pranking" women they tend to be a lot more obnoxious and persistent with it, following the woman around constantly trying to get them to kiss them or whatever dumb bullshit they're passing off as a "prank" today. Both are fucking stupid, and should be in the news to call these daft cunts out. But I'm inclined to say "pranks" wherein the "prankster" follows you around like a fucking sexual predator are more damaging to your mental state than being goaded into a fight or slapped (kidnapping videos target either gender so w/e).
Anyone defending this will be permabanned as a prank.
sorry, if you're in a public place you have a right to be filmed. still no excuse for these guys being assholes, but really, is she seriously suffering this much emotional distress? sounds like shes "cashing in" to me.
I do sometimes wonder what reality you are a part of, because it's clearly not the same one everyone else here inhabits. Someone, somewhere developed inter-dimensional communication and this is the only person to respond from the dimension of grandiose stupidity.
alright lad I'll just follow you around filming your face wherever you go in public, surely I'm allowed to!
Unfortunately, you are see: paparazzi
that insane pap culture of hollywood/america doesn't exist in remotely the same state in england. sure there's still pap but they're not obnoxious to the point of needing restraining orders
sorry, if you're in a public place you have a right to be filmed. still no excuse for these guys being assholes, but really, is she seriously suffering this much emotional distress? sounds like shes "cashing in" to me.
I used to have social anxiety and I used to be in a darker place where I just wanted to be left alone. It would have probably broken me to wake up to see that a ton of people hate me. That was a legitimate problem for someone like me that you shouldn't just be brushing off:
do you really care that much about the opinions of strangers who will probably forget about you in like, a day?
When you treat this and people as trivial you're describing exactly why laws are in place to protect people's identities. I could totally imagine stuff turning real sour, becoming bullying and a motivator towards suicide. Reading that this girl started shaking is very relatable for me, and it's still some thing that I deal with from time to time - I've gotten better about it. Can't expect everyone to be on the same page and people shouldn't expect to be made fun of on such a large scale anyway.
I'm not against pranks and they shouldn't be illegal, but they should have a pinch of thought put into them so the victim can appreciate them, or at least not feel harassed, like so As for Jack Jones, fuck you mate, I hope you and the people who give you likes grow up soon.
These "pranks" are just creepy and sad really.
sorry, if you're in a public place you have a right to be filmed.
actually no afaik if you become the focus of the recording they have no right to film you unless you've given them your consent.
Most places, the UK I'm sure being one of them, do not allow you to record people in public without their consent. You have to provide a written, traceable agreement that your face can be displayed in a video, and if that agreement is not provided, the author of the video is legally obligated to blur your face and erase mentions of your name and any detail that may compromise your private life. Most nations in Europe actually defend the right of people in public to remain anonymous when filmed/recorded/taken pictures of against their consent.
Sorry but this is utter rubbish. You are allowed to record people in a public space. You are even allowed to record a private property from a public place and it's not enforceable to restrict that. You do not have to blur people's faces out. You're getting confused with defamation laws and if you intend to make profit from it... Edit: and before someone decides to misconstrue this as defending the dick who uploaded the video, I'm not condoning it. But misinformation about what you can and can't record / do with that recording is just plain silly.
In general under the law of the United Kingdom one cannot prevent photography of private property from a public place, and in general the right to take photographs on private land upon which permission has been obtained is similarly unrestricted.
as a photographer your post makes me cringe [editline]3rd June 2016[/editline]
alright lad I'll just follow you around filming your face wherever you go in public, surely I'm allowed to! [editline]3rd June 2016[/editline] Theres a difference between someone getting caught in the background of footage and someone being recorded in an interview
err.. yes, actually. as long as you're not implying explicit recordings of the subjects or directly harassing them verbally or physically, you can record someone as much as you want to. Our photography laws have nothing to do with this case. This woman is complaining about direct physical and verbal harassment, not the fact that she's being recorded at all without consent
hundreds of the comments focused on her, describing her as ugly, stuffy, stuck up, arrogant and dumb, calling her a snotty cow and a feminazi, and speculating about whether she was on her period.
How pathetic a person do you have to be for your first response to polite rejection from a woman to be furiously insulting her? Are you really that insecure? Like, on another person's behalf, even? How does anybody ever become so petulant and entitled?
The only thing I'll defend about this is filming in public, however what he did sounds like pure harassment whether it was filmed or not. The filming is just a shitty icing on the cake. She shouldn't care about the thousands of idiots and their YouTube comments, she should care about the initial act of harassment and rudeness. Guy is such a tool. [editline]3rd June 2016[/editline]
actually no afaik if you become the focus of the recording they have no right to film you unless you've given them your consent.
This isn't true if you're on public property, at least in the US. I have filmed a bunch of documentaries and you really only need release forms if they are on private property or at work. However I do believe if you make them look bad through editing or misrepresentation they can sue for defamation. This is why I always ask on camera beforehand for their name and verbal consent to be filmed. Too many grey areas to not be cautious
what I always find horrible is when not one, but MANY people create rude-ass comments on videos if there's one person then it's hella easy to call them out for their shitty behaviour, but if it's many then there's almost nothing you can do other than just letting the large crowd be a large crowd if you try to call all of them out you'll just get laughed at since there's way more of them than you

People who watch this kind of shit are idiots who won't change their mind no matter what you say, so if it's contained in one youtube comment section let them be assholes.
Can't help but recall this video

Joe Goes asks every single person to sign release forms, these people probably should too.
You have the right to film, but not to publish it for (most) commercial purposes. Joe Goes asks every single person to sign release forms, these people probably should too.
If this is true, she should be pursuing legal action.
Anyone defending this will be permabanned as a prank.
You're now my favorite mod just for that.
A lot of people on Facepunch dislike prank related youtube channels, what with the whole 'it's just a prank bro!!' thing - this article is kind of like another reminder that they're shitty
Thanks to this thread we found the one thing Facepunch hates more: women complaining about Youtube prank channels.
As much as you're allowed to film as much as you want in public in the UK, it gets a bit complicated when you start filming other people. A big crowd is usually fine, but a video like this with only one person as the focus for a 'prank' narrative? You can definitely get in a lot of trouble for that if they didn't provide written permission for you to use their image. Either way it's fucked and I'm waiting for shit 'pranksters' like this to face more consequences. There was a group who got some jail time recently, and it's incredible it hasn't happened more, they're literally filming themselves harassing and sometimes endangering people!
If one of these guys tried to 'prank' me I'd fucking sue the shit out of them. These little shits deserve it.
I'm all for being filmed, but only if I know about it and give consent. Filming someone without their knowledge in public is fucked up if you ask me. Filming someone without their knowledge, consent, AND effectively making them a harassment target online is complete fucking bullshit and should rightfully be illegal. Kinda hope she sues the shit out of the fuckers responsible for this. I can't fucking stand the online "prank" culture. Just because its a "prank" does not make it not ludicrously fucked up.
