Just for the sake of argument, would there really be any irreversible loss of knowledge by destroying these? I understand that they're cool to have around, but historians acting like it's the end of the world might be overreacting. That said I don't see a reason to destroy them all.
because they are an important piece of the past that can not be reclaimed once lost.
Or maybe they could consult with people who have some knowledge about historical artifacts:
The Imperial War Museum has chosen to seal the filters on all its suspect gas masks, whether on display or used in handling collections. This stops them functioning but does not change their outward appearance.
I actually remember putting on a mask when I visted the museum.
Or just don't use gas masks with old filters?
I pimped mine from 1938 fuck the rules
Can you even see anything out of it at night?
Also: Doctor Who games. "Are you my mommy?"
Who let you out of your cage, you little imp?
Obligatory 10% of facepunch will suffer the effects from asbestos poisoning
You're missing a zero there boss
Can you even see anything out of it at night?
CAN'T SEE SHIT! I have a wire running down the inside of my shirt so that I can turn the light on using a button.

I understand that they're cool to have around, but historians acting like it's the end of the world might be overreacting. That said I don't see a reason to destroy them all.
Generally historians don't like it when things that are historical are destroyed. They're things that existed only at one point in history and were a product of their time. You can replicate that all you want, but you can never replace it.
Solution: don't let children near the authentic masks, produce non-working replicas just for education purposes.
What if the school gets mustard bombed! That'd be like putting fake 'educational' fire extinguishers everywhere! [/s]
What if the school gets mustard bombed! That'd be like putting fake 'educational' fire extinguishers everywhere! [/s]
It was a plot by the Muslims I tell you, wanting poor British children to get a good dose of Mustard Gas without proper protection! Is this what you want England to turn into?
I was ready to mock the UK's health and safety obsession, but asbestos is serious shit. Don't fuck around with it.
It's quite clear how much that Britain is turning into a huge nanny/police state. Really glad i don't live there.
I hope this is sarcastic, would you consider allowing children to wear an old mask containing a toxic substance to be a good idea?
I hope this is sarcastic, would you consider allowing children to wear an old mask containing a toxic substance to be a good idea?
Nobody does but he has a point. It's fairly obvious that a mask containing asbestos should not go on your face. We don't need to ban and destroy them.
