Victory for paid mod boycotters: Valve removes payment feature from TES: Skyrim area of the Steam Wo

Frankly after all the BS that happened this past few days in kinda surprised some people are saying "forgive and forget" to valve
They pull a massive asshole move against the community and we are supposed to praise them for noticing how dumb they were? Fuck that, this should always be seen as a stain in valves record, not something we should just move on about
Just make it so it's donations only. Is it really that hard?
Then Valve/Bethesda wouldn't get a cut. They said it's to support modders but 25% just says otherwise.
A lot of modders do deserve to be rewarded for their hard work, but it should only be done through donations. Anything involving paywalls is a recipe for disaster.
Neat, now it means those people who took their mods off Nexus and other places in fear of other people uploading their free work for a profit can put them back up.

Praising Valve for this is like the exact opposite reaction they deserve right now
Not even gonna respect their statement. Fuck these assholes.
They failed to deliver a system that was fair. A fair system deserves fair participation from everyone involved, customers included.
They should have been open from the very beginning. They had a good idea, but failed to involve the people that mattered.

Had it been any other company, people would mock them for years to come. Just look at EA and Microsoft. But it's okay when Valve does it.
I still remember when valve actually tried making games and not this......
I wonder if some of the mod authors will just pull their content and never return after this.

guess what they're making a game right now (it's ongoing!).. it's called dota 2.
edit: Feel free to tell me why this is wrong, i'd love to hear it.

yes it's a perma stain in valves record
but valve coming clean and explaining why is a attempt to wipe up the mess. some people are satisfied with the mess cleaning while others arn't.
It's over. I'm so glad its over.
Although I'll feel bad for the people that had planned to move over to the Steamworkshop, like the SkyUI guys, because they're gonna be receiving the fallout from this.
Can people like valve again now
personally, I liked valve even after hearing about this
I'm still a steam loyalist, though, this was extremely heavy EA levels of bad. But they removed it, thankfully.
the fact that it went so poorly only shows even more how much valve seems to have changed.
then again, maybe the valve I like just isn't the current valve any more
Thank you for stopping this when you have valve.
And admitting you where the ones in the wrong and not trying to pass it onto the consumers like some companies would have done.
How about next time, before rushing ahead with what you THINK the market can take, you make a quick poll asking if that is okay and not shoot yourself in the foot?

Hehehe fallout.
But seriously though, I hope the people praising Valve for this realize that they're the same company that pushed it on us in the first place. They really shouldn't forgive and forget, it should be a massive mistake that should be remembered in the future.
While it's certainly better than ignoring the feedback, I don't think Valve should be praised for reconsidering. They're merely cleaning their mess, which is what's expected of them. Not to mention some of the mess they did can't be undone.
When I mean I'll feel bad, I mean more drama will be created even after this is over. I could care less about the SkyUI guys now, they showd their true colors.
They should've fixed the implementation, not straight up caved in and removed the whole thing altogether.
Modders should be able to choose to sell their mods, but Valve was taking way too large of a cut.

In the friendliest way of asking, I am interested in knowing what exactly what is bad about the concept as a whole. As far as I can tell, the concept is letting mod creators sell (at a fixed price or pay-what-you-want) their mods. I'm not being snarky or anything. I honestly don't know what's wrong with the concept.
You know what?
I think it's actually good that this happened at some point, because it will show other companies just how angry something like this will make people, and how much something like this will not work well.
This shouldn't have happened PERIOD. But I hope that this is a warning for others to not try something like this.
the fact that this happened shows how much the gaming industry has changed for the worse. But the fact that gamers yelled as loud as they did over this is a really, really good sign.
We understand our own game's communities pretty well, but stepping into an established, years old modding community in Skyrim was probably not the right place to start iterating. We think this made us miss the mark pretty badly, even though we believe there's a useful feature somewhere here.
Don't get complacent. This bit very much leaves the possibility for it to come back in some form.
I'd seen some people retroactively criticizing Max's tumblr remarks and stuff in the last thread but he did bring up a point that (good) modders don't get donated to enough.
Honestly if you want to exercise your generosity to modders who didn't cash in, now would be a good time to do so (donated $25 and $15 cad to Nuska and Cabal120 myself)

Hell, it showed them that not even a company which is considered a saint to the majority of people could get away with it.

I will back them 100% if they add a donation system where the modder gets around 80% of the cash, possibly more
even 75% to modders would be fair, since even at 80% this would be hugely profitable to valve/bethesda. But ehh, that's a bit low.
Yep I think it will at least show to others it may not be a good idea to pull this shit. Also possibly showed the true colours of certain modders.
Hell, it showed them that not even a company which is considered a saint to the majority of people could get away with it.
it also showed that a company that previously changed gaming for the better, could have changed gaming for the worse, in a really bad way

As I said in the other thread, I have a feeling that's PR speak for "we're just trying to cover our ass and not make ourselves seem as stupid and greedy".
I will back them 100% if they add a donation system where the modder gets around 80% of the cash, possibly more
Yeah, donations would be fine. I'm just expecting paywalls to be at the back of their mind still.
They could just copy the Nexus' donation feature, which is just a Paypal link. So the modder gets all the money.

60/20/20 or 70/20/10 would probably be more realistic.
