Windows in older houses are thicker at the bottom because the glass has been affected by gravity over time
Or the glass could have just been made non-uniform.
Several other points can be considered which contradict the "cathedral glass flow" theory: Writing in the American Journal of Physics, physicist Edgar D. Zanotto states "...the predicted relaxation time for GeO2 at room temperature is 1032 years. Hence, the relaxation period (characteristic flow time) of cathedral glasses would be even longer." (10^32 years is many times longer than the estimated age of the Universe.) If medieval glass has flowed perceptibly, then ancient Roman and Egyptian objects should have flowed proportionately more — but this is not observed. Similarly, prehistoric obsidian blades should have lost their edge; this is not observed either (although obsidian may have a different viscosity from window glass). If glass flows at a rate that allows changes to be seen with the naked eye after centuries, then the effect should be noticeable in antique telescopes. Any slight deformation in the antique telescopic lenses would lead to a dramatic decrease in optical performance, a phenomenon that is not observed. There are many examples of centuries-old glass shelving which has not bent, even though it is under much higher stress from gravitational loads than vertical window glass.

Wikipedia is the only Jr. High Science Teacher you'll ever need.
wikipedia didn't exist when I was in jr high :(
wikipedia didn't exist when I was in jr high :(
It's not too late to go back.
citations please. cached thumbnails do not show intent
There was a man a while back who downloaded child porn about ten years before it was found, back when he was around the appropriate age to be interested in the girls. The files were buried so deep in his computer that he wouldn't've been able to access them anyways. He still got several years in prison. I wish I remembered his name, I'd be able to give you an article. [editline]oh hamburgers[/editline] Oh, but regarding thumbnails, it is technically illegal. There was a trial in New York though that made it legal to have accidentally downloaded the images without your knowledge, but that only applies in New York as far as I'm aware.
Windows in older houses are thicker at the bottom because the glass has been affected by gravity over time
No, windows in older houses are thicker in some places because the glass was blown to that shape.
when I say nobody I mean no average person [editline]1[/editline] and afaik not even that kind of magnet is strong enough
here's how you erase some goddamn files
nobody has access to a magnet strong enough to do anything to a hard drive
do you know what a screwdriver is hint you can remove the magnetic shielding with such a device, and THEN use a magnet.
Hitachi? Making durable storage peripherals? My pile of dead Travelstars would like to have a word with them.
Their enterprise drives (the ones they sell to people like Netapp) are actually quite good. . . But their standard stuff is quite the opposite.
do you know what a screwdriver is hint you can remove the magnetic shielding with such a device, and THEN use a magnet.
A note from Facepunch's engineering department: If drive platters were magnetically shielded you couldn't fucking read or write anything on them with a magnetic head! Stare at that image for a week until it clicks.

Which won't do anything as Dori said, because you'd need an industrial strength degausser, and I'm willing to bet none of you own one.
Which won't do anything as Dori said, because you'd need an industrial strength degausser, and I'm willing to bet none of you own one.
I technically have one. It needs a new plug, but it's otherwise functional. Don't know why I took it, but I'll probably get some use out of it eventually.
Fancy. Now watch as this too disappears and is never heard again. Like any sane person wouldn't use either a 35-sweep deletion (minimum) or a magnet.
My professor in my computer forensics class drilled holes in his hard drive. I think he actually lit it one on fire before. Kinda want to know what he is hiding
Hitachi? Making durable storage peripherals? My pile of dead Travelstars would like to have a word with them.
This crap computer I'm posting from has a Deathstar that's been operating seamlessly for the past 12 years. :suicide:
citations please. cached thumbnails do not show intent
What if I'm into thumbnails
