I personally avoid consoles because they're expensive as hell and my PC can do everything they can do, only so much better. Plus, I'm really starting to love the independent scene that has sprung up on the PC lately.
Take THAT, console sector! ~*Pc 4 LyFe*~ But seriously, this doesn't come as a surprise really. As already stated, we're in/came out of a recession, and things aren't looking good all around. One of the last things on peoples' minds are buying a console.
telekinetic dildos are the main cause behind this now we dont need our right hands for late night girlfriends, we can all pretend to be girls now with 30 year old men on omegle who needs videogames????
I'll say it, I misinterpreted the title of this post. I was hoping that hardware became cheaper, I feel like a dumbass as I'm typing this. But yeah, I agree a lot of the games nowadays are just filling the gaps of maybe 1 or 2 really good ones or big titles here and there.

A high end gaming PC can cost up to $3000 while a measly XBOX 360 is only around $300 to $400 right now. Unless your computer is a very low end that can only play games dated back from 2006, I say PC is more expensive than a console IF you go for a high end hardware. Still, better graphics on PC But I agree with you on the Indie part. PC is having a boost of Indie game developers here and there.
I wonder if this is effected at all by the fact that PC gaming is becoming more popular (if I remember correctly. I read somewhere about that, I may be wrong though)
It is becoming bigger but only: F2P (LoL, TF2) MMO (WoW) Indies (Steam Indies games, Minecraft, etc) Facebook/browser (Farmville, Angry Birds) [editline]13th January 2012[/editline]
Console is more expensive? you got to be kidding me. Only people who want to play Crysis at like some 4k res with 8x MSAA and all these graphic filters whichbarely do anything but halve your FPS would ever spend that much.
A 400 dollar build out performs an xbox 360 by almost 6 times now days. PC gaming is the new cheap also considering most PC games are cheaper.
It's also that hardware has, affordably, hit a ceiling. You can't get much higher end than a $200 video card without forking over half a grand or more, and video cards are lasting longer. Games aren't being too much more taxing than they were 2 years ago. So if your hardware runs everything now just like it did a year ago, no need for an upgrade
A 400 dollar build out performs an xbox 360 by almost 6 times now days. Secondly, performance doesn't really matter because most games don't require more than what the consoles are capable of. The price of games can be hit or miss. You can still buy older console games for cheap.
$400 is still more than the cost of an Xbox or PS3
But you actually need a PC, these aren't toys like consoles. So it's a 2-in-1 product, it actually saves money.
Are we having another debate on why you guys think either consoles or PCs are a better deal?
What an inane thing to say. Now even one game in the series per console is too much for you people? I think the game industry would be absolute awful if good ideas were tossed out because they've been used once, and all we had left was whatever people came up with just to seem new.
I think he means there are too many bad sequels that just keep getting made. For every Skyrim there's about shitty copy-paste continuations of the CoD or BF games.
A high end gaming PC can cost up to $3000
LOL
Console is more expensive? you got to be kidding me. A high end gaming PC can cost up to $3000
more like $800-900 unless you buy the absolute best components which is a dumb idea to begin with
It doesn't matter about the exact definition. People don't have as much to spend these days as they did half a decade ago, and that is contributing to the decline of gaming hardware.
Its more likely to be market saturation I feel. Why bother getting a new fridge if your current one already works and does what its supposed to do? Same logic applies to VG consoles
Jan. 12 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. video-game sales declined 21 percent to $3.99 billion last month, led by a drop in purchases of hardware such as consoles and handheld players. Retail sales of hardware tumbled 28 percent, while software purchases shrank 14 percent, researcher NPD Group Inc. said today in an e-mailed statement. Accessories declined 27 percent, NPD said. Sales for the year fell 8 percent to $17 billion, according to the Port Washington, New York-based researcher.
Wait, it dropped "last month"? As in, console and game sales in January are down from console and game sales in December (you know, the month of fucking Christmas?) This is news?
There is also a distinct lack of games that are great anymore too.
Have you seen the PS3 exclusives that came out in 2011 [editline]13th January 2012[/editline]
But you actually need a PC, these aren't toys like consoles. [editline]14th January 2012[/editline]
Damn it Im so sick of sequels, I want a developer to make something new and original instead of being pussies and sticking with the same shit every year.
You mean like that 5th Half-Life game everybody wants?
How many Alienware computers did you glue together to get that information?
He's got about a fifth of a "high-end" Alienware computer in that price I think.
Recession (U.S.) ended around September. EDIT: For the economic geniuses here, ...you can refute whether things are better but you're retarded to refute the definition.
People still aren't wanting to spend as much as we did in 06/07. Now I just wonder if computer hardware will also be affected and result in a drop of prices. For those of you who don't really build computers it's times like these where it's best to buy upgrades/build new rigs because you can get things much cheaper. If you browse the PC building section of the Hardware forums you'll notice most high end rigs that can run all current games costs between $800-$1200. $3,000 sounds more in the price of prebuilt shit that is way overpriced. Sure it still can be more expensive than console gaming, but at least choose a fair number for PC building prices.
