If people are showing such overwhelming support for a ruler that they want to keep him, thats their choice. Don't like it? Tough tits, imperialist. Its their election, not yours, stop trying to impose your rule over them.
Yeah dude, people should always elect their own dictators because thats the smart thing to do with absolutely no risk of immediate and rapid backfire.
Yeah dude, people should always elect their own dictators because thats the smart thing to do with absolutely no risk of immediate and rapid backfire.
People should elect their own governments, if they want to, and they should be free to get rid of their freedoms if they want to. Getting the UN to step in and interfere with a sovereign nation's politics is ridiculous. When a dictator starts abusing human rights and embarking on aggressive foreign policy, that's the UN's cue, and that's what it was established for.

Tom "Why would you do that? You need that. Arms are very handy. Don't do that" Pete "Sod off. I can do whatever I want. My body. My choice." (Pete chops arms off) Tom: "Aw shit, what a godawful mess you made of yourself." Pete: "Holy fuck! There's blood everywhere! How could this happen to me? Help me!" Dictatorships have predictable ends. People will die. Rights will be supressed. At worst, a civil war might break out a la the shitstorm that is now Syria.
Quite recently the US still had indefinite rule for president, but most didn't want to stay in for their entire lives so they changed it in 1940's.
Indefinite rule is a misleading phrase. There were no term limits, meaning a President could run for however many terms he would like. He would still have to be democratically elected. The only President to ever serve more than 8 years was FDR.

Arms are very handy. Don't do that. Pete and Jack, together: Let's vote on it! Democracies aren't invulnerable to making poor decisions. But that's not really the point I was trying to make; I'm just saying that there shouldn't be an international body that regulates how democratic you are and steps in if you aren't democratic enough.

He can run as many times as he wants, but still has to run.
