What if someone spills coffee on it?
Then I'd pretend to panic to freak them out.
You have to hit a tank shell's primer with more force than any accidental bump or knock could cause to set it off. Live munitions are designed to go off when the operator wants them to, not when fate comes knocking. This instability is a misconception caused by the fact that WW1/2 era wartime gunpowder was made with materials that became unstable over time, particularly as it reacted with air and moisture, so WW2 shells/mines/etc being dug up can be set off without striking the primer. Modern munitions are safe for the forseeable future and actually become less likely to be set off even by their primers as time goes on. Having a modern tank shell on your coffee table would be safer than having an ant farm in your house.
Why the fuck are they looting a tank. Why the fuck would you loot a tank that's part of your countries defense force.
Having a modern tank shell on your coffee table would be safer than having an ant farm in your house.
Until you realize the damn thing weighs anywhere between fifteen to fourty kilograms, utterly ruining your coffee drinking experience.
[SP]I was just being silly.[/SP]
I got that impression but I wanted to flaunt my trivia knowledge anyway so there.
Something tells me it'd be one of those drop it and run the fuck away things if the crew showed back up at that exact moment, but I assume they were out of the tank for an extended period of time and these people knew they weren't returning.
Someone else probably just mugged them and now they'll wake up 8 hours later in a dumpster with a hangover wondering what the fuck happened to their Tank. "Private Sergei." "Yes sir?" "Bit of an inappropriate time to ask this but WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO MY TANK!"
Is there something up with Eastern Europeans and stealing everything that isn't nailed down? (User was banned for this post ("Racist" - Gurant))
this isn't racism, eastern european isn't a race
WHY would you fire a tank in a crowded street, are you fucking retarded. People don't understand that even if the tank is not aimed at you, you could fucking die from chunks of concrete flying around! Tanks are not toys!

BMP-2 (as does its entire family) has an incredibly simple firing mechanism and a very confined space where gunner sits. That guy could've actually set it off accidentally.
Wow, is Ukraine collapsing? This is clearly desertion.
new Russian strategy confirmed: leave tanks and machine guns unattended, the masses will do the rest themselves.
This is the mentality caused by the ideas of communism and socialism, about the 'common goods', which are in fact no one's goods. In the Eastern Bloc there were many businesses controlled by the state and people would often steal petty stuff, like pens, hammers and even cement, because no person in particular suffered from their loss.
Why is he getting all the boxes for it? He's basically right.
Why is he getting all the boxes for it? He's basically right.
Because it's laughable. People who steal shit know they're stealing shit, not just having their fair share of goods. Has absolutely nothing to do with socialist ideas. Don't know about Poland, but in Soviet Union stealing from a workplace was considered a crime and in no way encouraged by socialism or anything. "Well that shit doesn't belong to anyone in particular, so no harm's done" is a universal excuse, not just ex-socialist one.
Full story at http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/regions/europe/140516/ukraine-tank-mariupol Dont worry, no one got shot. The guy everyone carries off just got hit by a brick.
I doubt there'd have been much of him to carry off if he had got hit by those shells
I dunno, getting caught stealing live ammunition is a little worse than getting caught stealing, well, pretty much anything else.
Some ammo like that can trade you some food or fuel when you really need it. also could be ammo for the coaxial gun. Pretty much Takistan Life IRL. But yeah I don't know who wouldn't have funsies checking out a fully armoured IFV that's just lying there.
Is it still there now, even after the incident with the shot?
I don't think I can explain it using words better then he did, so I will just tell you that: You're wrong.
Sure. If you find some kind of weird comfort in justifying people's shitty (and criminal) behavior by "well socialism tought them that" then by all means, but don't expect other people to buy that.
I don't think I can explain it using words better then he did, so I will just tell you that: You're wrong.
What a well thought out and compelling rebuttal, allow me to retort; no u
Is there something up with Eastern Europeans and stealing everything that isn't nailed down? (User was banned for this post ("Racist" - Gurant))
Why do most of the mods here suck so bad at their job? Saying something that personally offends you is not grounds to ban them. Eastern European is not a race. Banning someone and saying it's racism for that makes you look like a petulant child.
Ammo doesn't go off just from sitting around or getting bumped or dropped, especially not tank shells
yeah but if somebody knew you had stolen tank shells you will get branded as a terrorist, arms dealer, or other some such criminal.
Scary, why leave a loaded tank in the middle of a road intersection? But then again you can't blame Putin for doing what he is doing in Ukraine, I suppose I would do the same if I was an ex-KGB member who happened to become the president.
Is there something up with Eastern Europeans and stealing everything that isn't nailed down? (User was banned for this post ("Racist" - Gurant))
Gurant confirmed for MaxofS2D replacement
The Ukrainian armed forces lacks discipline and common sense.

Plenty of other forums to visit if you don't like it. Racism may not be the strictly correct term, but it's essentially the same sort of bigotry.
Well they did manage to fire the main cannon, that doesn't seem so easy either.
Hell, they did better than the Libyan rebels when they tried to operate old captured Soviet tanks.
So to everyone saying the "why did they leave it there unlocked etc, why no one drive it off" Theres a few other videos around that have bmp's getting towed away by others after their engines fuck up so its not entirely out of the question that the thing just conked out on the crew so they left it. As for leaving it unlocked in completely lost but from what people are carrying away it doesn't look like they just left everything inside, the crew probably took most of the contents with them or it would've been guns coming out of that not just coats and boxes. Either way, best army 2014
