• Spiders spin wet blanket over Wagga Wagga

Fact: Anyone that actually lives out that way just calls it "Wagga" instead of repeating it - so it sounds less silly when you think of it like that. The CBD of Wagga is damn close to being totally under, so it's unsurprising this happened considering spiders are as common as ants down there:
hehe good one "ooh a bug NOPENOPENOPE" haha
hehe good one you put "hehe good one" there haha
What is it with facepunch and universally being so pussy towards spiders most of them can't even hurt you
This is in Australia If it doesn't have 2 legs, it's most likely poisonous
It's beautiful AND creepy!
Arachnophobia is a very common and almost totally irrational fear. It's similar to most fears in that it's basically taught to you very early to fear things that quickly skitter across the floor and have little tiny dagger teeth. I mean, even if most spiders aren't venomous these days, there's always that tiny little voice saying "what if that scratching noise I just heard is X", and that's exactly why people hate spiders; "what if it's actually venomous?" "what if it's a radioactive mutant capable of eating my face?" "what if I'm about to get killed by a gigantic spider?"
Surely not EVERYONE here is arachnophobic I honestly thing a lot of them just jump on the band wagon [editline]7th March 2012[/editline]
This is in Australia If it doesn't have 2 legs, it's most likely poisonous
I know, I'm an Australian
At least it's a lot of small spiders instead of legions of giant ones.
I am arachnophobic, but that web blanket looks pretty.
those spiders in wagga wagga sure got swagga
it's pronounced wogga, not wagger. theres strange places here, such as blackbutt, wongawilly and liverpool gosh, who would call a place liverpool, seriously [editline]7th March 2012[/editline]
plenty of places in australia have aboriginal names. in aboriginal language (theres actually like 500 of them but whatevs) the plural of the word is repeating it. kinda like in the US some places have native american names like illinois except australian aboriginal names sound dumb as fuck, like chattanoonga or wooloomooloo (these are actual names)
woollomoloo is actually a pretty cool place, been there a few times
Surely not EVERYONE here is arachnophobic I honestly thing a lot of them just jump on the band wagon
Again, it's very common. There's only four or so differing demographics on Facepunch; that's how you can tell which way a thread's going, if you're good at memory games. It's no surprise that a collection of like-minded people will be scared of the same things. Most thoughts people have all boil down to fear to begin with.
I would love to see that! One of those wonders of nature that the UK never gets. Entire trees can be colonized in some cases. What surprises me is that the spiders seem to tolerate each other's presence.
Because Aborigine guilt. It means "Place of Many Crows", as the abbos from that region repeat a word to create a plural.
Nah, we couldn't be fucked naming everything so we just asked the natives. They've had those names long before anyone even thought of giving Aboriginals any rights. Look at the US, half their states are native names and they slaughtered them. You can only name so many capital cities after Colonial governers and their daughters.

Makes me think back to The Mist, where the fucked up acid-shooting spiders have built tremendous, extravagant webs throughout the town's trees and houses.
Town's residents are all going to end up like that black guy from the mist.
What is it with facepunch and universally being so pussy towards spiders most of them can't even hurt you [editline]7th March 2012[/editline] they're cool anyway
We have spider sympathizer here. There is nothing we can do to help him now, he must be purged.
oh australia
I get it facepunch, the lot of you are arachnaphobes, but come the fuck on, stop posting "NOPE" or "GET MY FLAMETHROWER" in any thread relating to spiders in any way. god damn I bet if a species of ultra rare and beautiful spider went extinct you guys would be cheering and going "ONE DOWN A MILLION TO GO". I just had to vent that frustration.
They should harvest all of the web and make something cool out of it. Maybe a prototype for a bulletproof vest or some shit? Spider web is really strong, I'd like to see all of this put to use.
Strong as it may be, it is no match for my mighty twig!
Knowing Australia, 85% of those spiders are probably deadly.
From the pics, they look like wolf spiders, which aren't venomous, but from what I remember often have bacteria which can cause horrible infections (which is very likely if you accidentally fell into a sail of web containing hundreds of them).
If this is real spider silk, holy shit harvest it right now and put it to practical use.
At first I saw the pics and were like, spiders are fucking awesome then i saw the last picture and i found myself cringing and crying in my corner
i hate nature I HATE IT
I wanna make it into a bullet proof sport coat. (Spider Silk is as strong as Kevlar/)
