What does this have to do with the fact that the PEOPLE found him guilty, not the government as you keep harping about?
your point? the judge decides the sentence. the government ultimately executes the people. and you call yourself a libertarian? I didn't know libertarians supported the government executing people
and you call yourself a libertarian? I didn't know libertarians supported the government executing people
closet republican i believe you mean
closet republican i believe you mean
that's what I call him he says he's a libertarian
there isn't one which is another reason why the death penalty should be abolished, because once you kill someone then that's it. they can no longer appeal, etc.
You said it yourself, he shouldn't be allowed parole. Why should he fester in a jail cell with absolutely no purpose in life? How is that any better than being dead?
your point? the judge decides the sentence. the government ultimately executes the people. and you call yourself a libertarian? I didn't know libertarians supported the government executing people
Because you have to side with 100% of every belief of a political system to call yourself a part of it
and you call yourself a libertarian? I didn't know libertarians supported the government executing people
We don't, and it doesn't. It ALLOWS people to be executed. Only when said person has been judged BY HIS PEERS is he allowed to be executed.
Because you have to side with 100% of every belief of a political system to call yourself a part of it
you can't call yourself a communist when you say command-economics doesn't work [editline]06:41PM[/editline]
We don't, and it doesn't. It ALLOWS people to be executed. Only when said person has been judged BY HIS PEERS is he allowed to be executed.
except HIS PEERS determine if he's guilty, not if he gets the death penalty
We don't, and it doesn't. It ALLOWS people to be executed. Only when said person has been judged BY HIS PEERS is he allowed to be executed.
lol so basically you don't like/trust the government, but it's okay for them to execute people [editline]09:42PM[/editline] and once again, a judge decides the sentence
http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/executed-possibly-innocent
I knew that's what you were going to post. Nowhere in that link does it say innocent people HAVE been executed, like you keep spouting. They MAY have. There's no way to prove it. There is strong evidence, yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean they were innocent. It says it right on the top of the page.
and once again, a judge decides the sentence
You're point? Judges follow the rule of law, not their personal whims nor what any upper government official may dictate to them.
I knew that's what you were going to post. Nowhere in that link does it say innocent people HAVE been executed, like you keep spouting. They MAY have. It says it right on the top of the page.
if there was STRONG EVIDENCE of them being innocent then why was the execution allowed to continue? FYI, it's guilty beyond a reasonable doubt [editline]09:45PM[/editline]
You're point? Judges follow the rule of law, not their personal whims nor what any upper government official may dictate to them.
judge = government you're a hypocrite you always say how the government is so bad and messes everything up, but np when it comes to executing someone.
:words:
You're dumb.
judge = government you're a hypocrite you always say how the government is so bad and messes everything up, but np when it comes to executing someone.
Well I'll be damned. You actually called me a libertarian for once.
You're dumb.
great rebuttal anything else you'd like to add brohound [editline]09:46PM[/editline]
Well I'll be damned. You actually called me a libertarian for once.
you claim you're one I say you're a conservative/closet Republican
Judges follow the rule of law, not their personal whims nor what any upper government official may dictate to them.
FYI, all government officials are supposed to follow the letter to the law. Just because your judge is a down-to-Earth, soft-spoken Southern with a bible in his hand doesn't make him any different than anybody else who works for the government, from a janitor at the DMV to the President.
great rebuttal anything else you'd like to add brohound
No different from your simple "lol"s you love to respond with so much.
you claim you're one I say you're a conservative/closet Republican
Conservative? More that than liberal, for sure. Republican? No. [editline]08:54PM[/editline]
FYI, all government officials are supposed to follow the letter to the law. Just because your judge is a down-to-Earth, soft-spoken Southern with a bible in his hand doesn't make him any different than anybody else who works for the government, from a janitor at the DMV to the President.
I never said they weren't suppose to.
you always say how the government is so bad and messes everything up, but np when it comes to executing someone.
Did I ever say I was OK with the government executing people? The jury should have to vote on the judge's sentence as well IMO. And I say again:
You said it yourself, he shouldn't be allowed parole. Why should he fester in a jail cell with absolutely no purpose in life? How is that any better than being dead?

if there was STRONG EVIDENCE of them being innocent then why was the execution allowed to continue? FYI, it's guilty beyond a reasonable doubt
Some of the evidence was found years after the executions, when cases were reopened. A few were even up to 10 years later. Read your own source.
Execution is actually cheaper than a life sentence, dunno what the fuck you're talking about JDK
no it's not you fucking idiot and the three fucking idiots that rated him agree
And I say again:
life in prison gives them a chance to appeal, etc. if you kill them then you're silencing them forever. life is a right. [editline]10:06PM[/editline]
Some of the evidence was found years after the executions, when cases were reopened. A few were even up to 10 years later. Read your own source.
lol what you just said just supports the logic behind abolishing the death penalty
life in prison gives them a chance to appeal, etc. if you kill them then you're silencing them forever. life is a right.
They're allowed to appeal when given the death penalty as much as if they were sentenced to life.
No different from your simple "lol"s you love to respond with so much.
nope, not at all I actually refute people's claims [editline]10:06PM[/editline]
They're allowed to appeal when given the death penalty as much as if they were sentenced to life.
and what about all these people that were wrongfully executed
and what about all these people that were wrongfully executed
They still had the option to appeal. You're making it sound like they weren't given a word ever since the gavel set.
They're allowed to appeal when given the death penalty as much as if they were sentenced to life.
People on Death's Row normally appeal the sentence rather than the conviction, as people would rather be alive with a false conviction than dead. Meaning, people on Death's Row don't normally appeal to their full potential in order to save face.
life in prison gives them a chance to appeal, etc. if you kill them then you're silencing them forever. life is a right.
You said yourself he should get life WITHOUT PAROLE. What the hell would he be appealing. Life is a right, but is being stuck in a concrete box with no freedoms really life in anything other than the scientific sense?
We're one of the last modern nations in the world to maintain the death penalty. The only other one is China. Is this not an indication in itself that perhaps it's archaic and we need to change? What makes us different?
and what about all these people that were wrongfully executed
We already went over this.
You said yourself he should get life WITHOUT PAROLE. What the hell would he be appealing.
I don't think you understand what an Appeal is...
You said yourself he should get life WITHOUT PAROLE. What the hell would he be appealing.
you can still appeal if new evidence, etc. comes up. if you're dead then that's it. obviously you can't defend yourself anymore if you're dead. [editline]10:13PM[/editline]
We already went over this.
nope [editline]10:14PM[/editline]
They still had the option to appeal. You're making it sound like they weren't given a word ever since the gavel set.
it doesn't matter people have been wrongfully executed, and that is UNACCEPTABLE.
you can still appeal if new evidence, etc. comes up. if you're dead then that's it. obviously you can't defend yourself anymore if you're dead.
There isn't going to be any new evidence, there isn't any doubt that this guy committed the crime.
nope

I'm sure people have died in jail or spent a good amount of their lives in jail despite being innocent. A Justice system based on fallible people is going to be fallible. If you can come up with one that ISN'T fallible, I'm sure the world would love to hear it.
