someone explain quantum mechanics to me, I really want to know how something can go differently just because of observation
The particles being observed are so small, that the mere act of interacting with them in any way (including looking at them) will change them. This could be used to "hide" the particles from the rest of the universe for long enough for them to be useful in actually calculating something. This would make current processors look like they were made by throwing rocks at a piece of sand from several miles away.
And all of a sudden I am reminded of Warehouse 13
Think of what happened when the steam engine was introduced. ... or the Internal Combustion engine. ... or the Jet Engine These would be an entirely new era of computers. Not generation, ERA. My toothbrush only has a 987 Gigahertz processor. I need a new one.
I figure honesty is the best policy here: I have no idea what the hell quantum mechanics actually is. This stuff is so far over my head that I couldn't reach it with three ladders and a step stool. However, I do think the phrase "Space-Time Cloak" is incredibly cool sounding, and will pretend that I'm knowledgeable on exactly what it is and does in social situations with people who I believe know even less on the subject than I do.
And this is why you're a respected user. Facepunch in a nutshell. OT, yes, this sounds awesome. It also sounds very dangerous.
Does this mean we have stasis?
Does this mean we have stasis?
Does this mean you'll learn to read?
Holy. Fucking. Shit.
Avatar matches very well
I heard in the year 2000, we will have robot maids and flying cars.
This is easy, rub lead all over your body.
I actually am a student at Imperial College London but I can never find the optical physics department...
So We're basically inventing basic time control before we even get advanced space travel? Fucking awesome! :science:
Can't wait :buddy:
The theoretical calculations work only in a vacuum, and to create a space–time void of even a few minutes would require a cloak bigger than Earth because of the space required to recombine the accelerated leading edge and slowed trailing edge of the light wave. Worst of all, the theory requires the metamaterial to boost light rays beyond the fundamental speed of light.
sigh
sigh
Yeah and you need to go faster than light to go back in time. Good luck
And then nothing happened.
Does no one read? From what I have read, it seems that all this cloak does is refract light to make things invisible. Hardly anything exciting enough to describe as a 'space-time cloak'.
I'm becoming more afraid of World War 2 as time passes. [editline]16th November 2010[/editline] Wait, World War 2? Since when were there a World War 1?
I think we all know where we are going to use this for.
I think we all know where we are going to use this for.
Yeah, fapping without your parents knowing is going to be great, I bet. Best of luck for that.
Holy fuck, that's awesome.
And then nothing happened.
Exactly.
They have to make the light faster than it's actual speed. That is impossible. You guys seem to forget that.
someone explain quantum mechanics to me, I really want to know how something can go differently just because of observation
It isn't the observation which makes it act differently
i swear i didn't know she was 3 wait, i'm pretty good at science i was cloaked you didn't see me
Use this to bang every chick on the planet.
This is a mysterious arcane technique here. I don't think we'd be able to fully accomplish creating one of these "space-time cloaks" within this millenium, let alone within a century...
This is som Fringe shit right here
I want one. Now.
