Link teased to not be hero in new Legend of Zelda game

Waifule Warriors
I always thought it'd be cool if there was a game that took place after the Triforce or the Master Sword got destroyed somehow, which stops Link from always being reborn with the traits of courage (along with stopping Ganon from constantly coming back). So Link ends up being a story-relevant character, but one who isn't the hero, and the hero (who you play as) is a different character entirely.
Ambiguous Link + a load of customization choices (clothes etc) that reflect varying lengths of masculinity/femininity so people can be whatever they want.
Well in Ocarina of Time Link was transKokiri so being androgynous/genderqueer isn't really that different.
I'd actually love for Link to be a girl/it's actually Zelda.
I have a theory, feel free to tell me why it's wrong.
This is Link and Zelda's son/daughter and it takes place in the timeline after Spirit Tracks.

"This new Hyrule wasn't likely to see the return of Ganon, the Triforce, or the Master Sword (maybe explains the bow being the new main weapon?) The bloodlines of those tied to the ancient kingdom were growing thin."
There won't be any more incarnations of Link and Zelda in that timeline so instead they settle down and have a kid?
Also maybe since it's much farther in the timeline that explains the technology (laser arrows)?
This is what I think as well. What I think he meant by "this may not be Link" is that this one takes place in the windwaker/phantom hourglass/spirit tracks timeline where Link's bloodline no longer exists. In Wind Waker it is revealed that you don't actually play as Link, per say, because his bloodline no longer exists in that universe. That is also why, I think, they showed Link in the blue tunic, similar to Wind Waker, to make people think it could exist in that universe. Also, the technology of the bow makes me think it takes place after Spirit Tracks.
So, in conclusion, I think this game takes place after Spirit Tracks, Link is still a guy, and the only reason it was stated that it may not be Link is because Link's bloodline doesn't exist in that timeline.
1. The character shown in the trailer is not wearing Link's traditional green outfit
2. Aonuma said in a recent interview "No one explicitly said that that was Link."
3. The character in the trailer has longer hair and a ponytail, uncharacteristic of
Link in previous games
4.Upon further inspection, the character in the trailer is not carrying a sword. A bow and shield can be seen on the horse in the trailer, but no sword.
5. The character in the trailer seems to be using what could be interpreted as a light arrow at the end of the video, which is Zelda's trademark weapon.
6. The character in the trailer holds the bow in a right handed fashion, Link is traditionally left handed. (twilight princess and skyward sword made Link right handed to accommodate motion controls.)
7. The horse in the trailer does not look like Link's horse, Epona. The horse in the trailer appears to be dark brown with a black mane, in Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, the opening cinematic of the GameBoy Oracle games, and Twilight Princess, Epona is portrayed as being a reddish color with a white mane.
8. The hood being worn by the character in the beginning of the trailer strongly resembled the one worn by Zelda in Twilight Princess.
9. The character in the trailer is wearing blue, Sheik from OoT also wore blue, who turned out to be Zelda in disguise.
10. The face and figure of the character in the trailer appeared very feminine looking.
11. Aonuma spent the beginning of the trailer talking about changing the conventions of the Zelda series.
Could be Link's daughter or an unknown sister of Zelda
from the kotaku article
the handedness and the light arrow pretty much confirm it being Zelda for me
I'm calling the child of Zelda and Link from Skyward Sword. The facial features just make sense to me that way.
I'm all for female Link or playing as Zelda, but I'm not entirely convinced this is either of those just yet.
A female Link would be pretty cool I guess. The character does look more feminine in the trailer with the hair style and body shape but that might just be me. Link, does however, look like the older Link from the Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

And in the Adult Timeline, the Master Sword is gone, most likely forever, from the end of Wind Waker. [sp]Link stabs the Master Sword in to Ganon's skull and leaves it, causing him to turn to stone, then Hyrule is reflooded with the Master Sword still stuck in Ganon.[/sp] He's still the hero in Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks though. Plus there are the Four Swords games, and in Minish Cap Link uses the White Sword, a reforged Picori Blade, and the Light Force is a distinct thing from the Triforce. And in the original Legend of Zelda there was no Master Sword, the Master Sword first appeared in Link to the Past.

One correction, which they made the same mistake I did, is that there actually is a sword on the horse which someone pointed out as being very hard to see in the trailer.

Considering Hyrule Warriors is likely in the same vein as Dynasty Warriors, having multiple heroes rather than just one is not that surprising. I think the same thing applies to every other game that uses the Dynasty Warriors style/engine.
Also, haven't they already shown Zelda in the game, and that she looks quite a good deal different from link? Also, I wouldn't mind having a female link, tho, its prolly more likely that he's just skinny with a little more androgynous look.

Hyrule Warriors is a non-canon spin-off. This is the next installment in the actual Legend of Zelda line.

The artstyle supports this
[editline]11th June 2014[/editline]
Or, at least it takes place before Ocarina of Time
1. The character shown in the trailer is not wearing Link's traditional green outfit
neither was link in wind waker and twilight princess, until it was given to them by someone
2. Aonuma said in a recent interview "No one explicitly said that that was Link."
nobody said the character shown was link, doesn't instantly make that character female and it doesn't mean the character isn't link. it just means the character shown isn't confirmed to be link.
3. The character in the trailer has longer hair and a ponytail, uncharacteristic of Link in previous games
my dad wears a ponytail because he has long hair, and so does link. doesn't make him a girl
4.Upon further inspection, the character in the trailer is not carrying a sword. A bow and shield can be seen on the horse in the trailer, but no sword.
or maybe they're bomb arrows (they explode on impact), which have been around since, as far as i know, link's awakening
6. The character in the trailer holds the bow in a right handed fashion, Link is traditionally left handed. (twilight princess and skyward sword made Link right handed to accommodate motion controls.)
this could possibly mean motion controls are either mandatory or optional

nobody said that was epona either
8. The hood being worn by the character in the beginning of the trailer strongly resembled the one worn by Zelda in Twilight Princess.
if i'm remembering correctly, zelda wasn't wearing just a hood in twilight princess. she had her entire body covered
10. The face and figure of the character in the trailer appeared very feminine looking.
i'm pretty sure it's the art style. link has never been a super masculine macho man anyway so why would he start now

sorry folks, looks like no bust.
he's explicitly made to look like link, i think they're just stirring up controversy or it could be a descendant of a link that isn't link.
So everyone thinks this new link is female?... How? He looks a little twinky I guess but female? Pull another one.
Personally, I think it's Link and I think it's a dude. I would like for it to be for the sake of preserving the integral lore of the series but with that being said, if it was a new character or a female Link, it wouldn't be a deal breaker or anything, I'm sure I'd still love the game and everything, I just hope that there's a damn good reason for it that is underlined in the game and not just "LOL ur a girl now because we're progressive and totally not sexist buy our game girlzz" which seems to be a sad trend now. (look at the shit ubi is getting for not having a female assassin in asscreed unity) If you want to make a game with a good female character, great, the industry could use more real solid female characters, but don't just shoehorn in a gender swap in an already rooted series for the sake of trying to be "PC"
ah yes the "Sad trend" of making game characters that aren't scruffy white dudes with a ~dark tragic past~
ah yes the "Sad trend" of making game characters that aren't scruffy white dudes with a ~dark tragic past~
don't forget the witty/falsely-deep one-liners and the lost love of their life
neither was link in wind waker and twilight princess, until it was given to them by someone
They don't actually really go out on their adventure before getting the Tunic. This character is pretty well out on it.

They're talking about the blue one that unfolds when the character pulls the little catch at the back of it. Also, only Link's Awakening, Twilight Princess, and Spirit Tracks have had Bomb Arrows.

Not every woman has a giant pair of jiggly breasts you know, and there are clothing that suppresses/tightens the chest area (read: sports bra) for better comfort when performing physical activities such as sprinting or, in this case, riding.

Though, to be honest, I don't give a hoot whether the protag is male or female, I just want to play some good old Legend of Zelda.
But a female protag would be rad nonetheless

Breast binding is a thing. How do you think Zelda/Sheik did it?
[t]http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/116/c/1/Chest_Binding_by_ProjectRainbowOokami.png[/t]
I think that this game is an alternate timeline sequel to Wind Waker, and that the protagonist in this game is actually the leader of the Third Street Saints. Tetra is worried that Link is becoming too powerful, so while he's on the pirate ship she has the ship blown up. Link awakens from his coma 7 years later to take Hyrule back for himself from the major gangs, the Sons of Hyrule lead by Tetra, the Ganons lead by Moe the Moblin, and the Rio Brotherhood lead by Prince Komali.
Link must gather his lieutenants, Medli, Makar, Tingle, and Johnny Gat as they turn the seas red with enemy blood as they take Hyrule for themselves and rule all the lands with an iron fist.
And that's why Link is so androgynous. It's character customization, the person playing this just made Link
female. You can be whomever or whatever you want, even Nolan North!
New smash bros character: transgendered hero of time

Magic, she used magic... I mean she also changed skin colour and everything not just breast size.
To be honest it'd be cooler to have a totally different hero
it'd be really cool to play a kid who will, by the end of the game, be this great and grey haired legendary warrior.

that or link is a cunt boy
I never really saw the canon of Zelda to be all that important anyways. The games have always been about the games as individual stories rather than the timeline. I'm all for female link.
