'Star Wars' creator says laser too much like lightsaber

What a douche.
What, its a laser, been around longer than light sabers.
Umm, have you any idea what the article is about? A company has released a very high powered laser that's clearly designed to look like a light saber.
And yeah, whatever gets that shit off the public market, I'm all for it. That thing is lethal.
If some douchebag blinded me with one of these motherfuckers, id start using my sonar to track them down and burn a hole in their throat.
I liked George Lucas before he ruined Star Wars
This never happened, get off your bandwagon and fast.

I tried so hard to forget it, I tried so hard. :crying:
Lucas isn't being a pompous douche, the laser has a hilt that looks exactly like the hilt of a light saber.
And they're using star war's popularity to help sell the product.
Oh and the product is a silent weapon that can strike from anywhere and cause blindness.
If the company does get forced to stop, they'll still come back with just a different design, so it's not like they won't stop selling the actual lasers.
Wicked has been selling lasers for many years now, and they won't stop because of some stupid Lucas Arts lawsuit.
In other news, the S3 Arctics will start shipping the 15'th.
D to the fucking ROID
I call B.S.
By this logic you can sue plumbing companies for designing lightsaber like products.
It doesn't look like any characters lightsaber.
Don't be silly.
He want the hilt design to be changed, because people will associate it with the star wars franchise, whether it's similar to a character lightsaber or not.
The laser itself is extremely dangerous and can cause severe damage if handled uncorrectly. If this thing looks like star wars, the soccer moms will go to george lucas and blame him for their son's blindness. He doesn't want to be associated with the laser, and he has all the right in the world to do that.

Also, luck_or_loss has a good point.

How the hell would a child obtain such an item with such a parent????
Holy fuck, I just saw the video of that monster, I would stay the fuck clear from that product. How can it even be allowed on the public market?

They might have a cool bigger brother. But my point is, you can severly damage people with that thing. And as some people have said, it's also a silent weapon. It serves no real cause than to burn stuff up. We would be better off if it was off the market.

What? It has PLENTY of uses
like....like....like........................
:colbert:
You win this time....
Well it's good for, camping?
EDIT:
HOLY SHIT!
I just saw the video, I somewhat agree with you know.
You people are idiots. If the product looks like a lightsaber he is allowed to sue them. Besides, those things can blind you in a nanosecond.
i just went and bought it fucking expensive but im gonna have fun with it
I thought only idiots said that now Lucas himself uses it :(
Lucas has always called them laser swords.
George is a genius.
Such power was not meant for human hands.
I hope his lawsuit goes through.

Judging by the title, Its meant for cutting things in the arctic.
NOT FOR SOME IDIOT REDNECK TO SAY "HEY WATCH THIS!" and get himself and a few others killed.
Acutally you can. There is a video of the laser on their website compaing one laser to this one.
Don't you need a special light?
Don't you need a special light?
Nope, not at all. Its definitely something NOT to be screwed around with or used as a toy.
Why are people going so ballistic over this stupid laser anyways? This laser IS NOT or NEVER WAS inteded to look like a light saber or attract this kind of attention. There are several warnings on the website detailing the power of the laser and the damage it can do. The owner of the site has stressed the fact that it was NEVER a toy.
The main reason why we know about the stupid thing is because of the articles and reports calling the stupid thing a "light saber".
i just went and bought it fucking expensive but im gonna have fun with it
Dude, no, it's not expensive AT ALL.
Until now, you could barely have gotten a 500mW without paying 2000$, now you get this one for 200$.
Also, this lawsuit is damn stupid. Dangerous lasers like this has been around in years, and nobody have complained before now.
I think I'm gonna buy one of these lasers.
Don't know what I'm gonna do with it, but I guess I can figure something out.
Edit: Great publicity for Wicked, too. Lucas probably gave them twice the business.
Don't know what I'm gonna do with it, but I guess I can figure something out.
Wicked Lasers has a list of uses for such a powerful laser:
Military and Law Enforcement: Lasers are used by US forces in Iraq to paint (identify) targets and intimidate the enemy. Military professionals prefer Wicked Lasers to typical laser dazzlers for its sheer power and performance in a size that is similar to a ballpoint pen case.
Astronomy: Because wicked lasers are strong enough to see a beam of light, they are ideal for pointing out star constellations. The next time someone tries to show you Orion's belt or Zeus in the stars, hand them the Wicked Laser and make them trace it out. They can even be velcro mounted to a telescope to help you aim better.

Search and Rescue: They are a highly visible flare that can be used over and over again; here they represent the power to save a life.
Outdoor Work Sites: Wicked lasers can also be useful at outdoor work sites. Construction managers use lasers to align pipes, walls, signs or any piece of construction material. Write with light and guide others with precision.
PC Shops: Shops that require fiber optical maintenance tools, will appreciate the additional power to find fiber interruptions and line breaks in fiber optic technologies with lasers.

Arts and Entertainment: Used on CSI: NY, in laser shows and to illuminate artwork, Wicked Lasers command attention and ignite imaginations.
Physics Labs: Students take notice when a teacher uses a laser with power far beyond anything they can buy in an office supply store.
Medical: Since 1967, healthcare professionals have used lasers to reduce pain and speed healing. [WARNING: Wicked Lasers are not FDA approved for medical use in the US].

Other Uses: From dispersing birds and other animal intruders to identifying fiber optic circuits, uses for Wicked Lasers products are limited only by your imagination.
Also, order it before the 15'th if you want it as soon as possible.

(Some of theese points do not apply to the Arctic, as it is simply too powerful in some cases)
good for him
George Lucas is a good businessman and a nice guy, so
1) he doesn't want the makers of this thing using his franchise to boost the popularity of their product
2) he doesn't want anybody to be hurt by something like that
He sucks at filmmaking though
1) he doesn't want the makers of this thing using his franchise to boost the popularity of their product
By making news about it, he's boosting the sales.
I mean, thousands have already ordered this.
I've heard the light saber would be more along the lines of plasma, since you can't technically stop a laser till it hits something..
I'm probably completely wrong :downs:

You're not wrong at all, though i don't think plasma is a solid material that can hold it's structure when thrown about. (It also appears to be light as fuck in the movies)
If they were lightsabers, you could pretty much walk around in aluminium foil and stay protected.
Then again, they're supposed to be awesome, not realistic.

Just because there is no image in the OP, also it looks very similiar to the second flashlight above me.
