So I didn't understand much of the article itself other than something we knew was wrong. Could someone explain the discovery in layman's terms, like what exactly didn't we understand?

Could someone explain the discovery in layman's terms, like what exactly didn't we understand?[/QUOTE] we had an understanding of how neurons would communicate with each other. this is the fundamental of brain activity(neurons are brain cells). the picture in the op shows basically how we thought they were shaped and how they would communicate. we now found out that it's only the way neurons in a developmental stage brain communicate. adult brains don't use this method. that's at least my fairly uneducated explanation of the neuroscience.

I have a feeling 90% of you did not read this thoroughly enough to comprehend. Nor do you understand the meaning of 'tri.' It's saying that astrocytes don't regulate the communicating taking place between neurons. The conversation is still there.
