FP is extremely anti-military. They're upset that there is a counter-argument to the first post, instead of countering it, they just rate it dumb, chock it up to SKEEA being SKEEA (what ever that means) and move on.
why join the army when you have children to look after - who will be greatly hurt if you die
what a fucking terrible idea
Ill respond to this in a much short-fashion compared to SKEEA.
Be 20, no money for college, knocked girl up, no job skills, cant get work. Join military to support them.
Thats a major reason why. For some people its either that, or raise a kid on minimum wage without any benefits, housing, and clothing provided.
A lot of the 20 year old fathers would be worse off if they didnt join and use the benefits.
Albeit they made some bad life choices by having a kid before they were ready career and financially wise. Dont buy it if you cant afford it.

Yeah, that does indeed happen. However, most guys get family while they are in. I have seen that a lot more than the former. It all depends on the spouse, if they can handle the stress. I know of some really messed up spouses doing messed up things to the children while their partner is deployed. It is rather saddening.

Should also point out that the military makes you sign papers saying you will take care of your family was well (At least the Air Force does).
Getting married while in is another thing, he just asked why you would join with already having a family.
I would imagine, having a family while in probably isn't the great idea either, due to the stress of the work hours, moving every few years, and deployments.
Some occupations are harder on a family than others. Military occupations, EMS, Fire, and police i would say are up there. Doesn't mean soldiers, airmen, sailors, and marines shouldn't get married, they should just be more cautious in who they marry and when compared to other people.
Well to be fair, that should apply to everyone, military or civilian. The divorce rate speaks for its self.

FP doesn't really like the military for whatever reason. Probably because spending money on literally anything that isn't thorium reactors/NASA is a fucking atrocity to most people here. Also, SKEEA, as much respect as I have for him, does tend to word things a bit "dramatically" I guess. :v:

If you have a drivers license, have ever worked for the federal government or have received federal student aid, you're already signed up. It's in the fine print for all of those things.
People dont like it when you interrupt their circlejerk session
People don't like it when someone tries to disprove statistics with an anecdote either
Good.
You wanna be a soldier? NEGLECT YOUR SON PRIVATE!

I was responding to his post which said:

I was not talking about the source article, everything I said is in response to this comment. Not once did I say that neglect does not happen, I merely listed several facts about the services and pay that the military provides for families. Also, please note that I did in fact say that spouses sometimes do terrible things during their partner's deployment. So, in essence, I did nothing that you are accusing me of. Please read my posts with more scrutiny.

This article is saying that incidences of neglect on the spouse's part quadruple, not on the deployed person, as the spouse has custody of the children while the other is away on duty.

Sorry, it is just how the words fall together in my head. I have spoken like that all my life. My speech does tend to tread on the more "dramatic" and "flowery" side of things.
I was medically discharged from Military service this month, and I still had to sign up for selected service, GG Government, but joke's on you, I'm already disqualified.

The government sent my selective service paperwork while I was deployed. It was hilarious.
