My dad had a negative income last year because he's started his own company (he's a lawyer), and my mum is a teacher. We're a family of 7 and we're still doing alright.

Then again, I don't live in the US ( thank god).

If you live in europe, it's even easier in US, it's just that most americans know shit about managing budget.
This post really made me laugh. You have three fucking cars. Three. When a car breaks down, you can use one of the other two.
People with one car which they can barely afford can call it breaking down devastating. You can't. That's just bad taste.
people with one car which they can barely afford are used to it.
if you have a silver spoon in your mouth you're bound to notice when it becomes a plastic spoon.
that's what happens when you have 0 class-consciousness.
Not so sound like a dick here but, that sounds pretty easy. My situation is as follows:
parents combined income is less then 70k a year, has to put 3 kids through college, and has to insure 5 cars. We are literally living paycheck to paycheck. However, we dont complain about it we just know that this is our life, and we have to deal with it.
He was laid off for a year and has to pay off credit card debt on the side.
It's not easy and you are a dick. (im jk but i neglected some details in my OP)
You rich people keep saying it's tough despite making INSANE amounts of money (in the 100k per year class) because of kids.
You fail to realize there are families who have lots of kids but don't make hundreds of thousands per year.
Maybe you don't need a new kitchen every year
If you go to private school / university you should be automatically disqualified for financial aid offered by the government. Plain and simple, just my point of view.
Oh thanks. Because I got just 5,000 dollars.
Everyone ignores the fact that private schools are inflating costs while not providing anything better.
My dad makes 112k a year and my mom gets a good amount of social security because she's disabled
With 2 kids in college and 3 cars to gas up/insure/repair, and a whole bunch of other shit it's hard for us to make ends meet and still budget for emergencies. So when cars break down for example, it's devastating
Why do 2 people have 3 cars?
Why do 2 people have 3 cars?
The father has to get to work, too.
That's some serious bullshit! I live with my parents by reason of my current situation but still for the most part have to support myself, but because my school wanted to consider me a dependent I could not qualify for much more than loans. I'm not saying I want a great big break, but still, this is really fucked up.
These people are fucking disgusting.
Private schools are silly. I know a bunch of teachers, and a lot of the teachers at private schools don't even have the qualifications to teach... (or have the qualifications for elementary teaching, not high)
The father has to get to work, too.
And the other 2?
College should be free to those who want it and actually try, like the civilized countries.
It's good to see aid finally going to those who deserve it.
I mean, otherwise they might have to go to a *shudder*
public school.
A lot of times, parents have other reasons to send their children to public school. Sometimes it's for religious purposes or other things.
My cousin, for example, goes to a private high school because he was home schooled all his life and would probably get teased and bullied a lot if he were in public school. Not to mention it wouldn't be a very nice school he would have to go to.
But even then, lower income families should be given priority. I wouldn't completely rule out higher income families, though, because, many of them live out of their means and refusing them aid could be punishing the child rather than the parents. Scholarships and such also encourages academic success regardless of class.
Once again, though, I still think low income families should get priority.
My parents make 100000 a year, but my dads a waiter and my mom works in a subway booth. Tgey have 3 kids and between bills and housepayments and college we are poor as fuck
Theres a difference between 150000 and no kids and 150000 and kids.
What kind of horrible money management leads to this?
Me and my mom live on about $15,000 a year, and that's counting my financial aid from college.
I survive on $40 a week why isnt anyone kissing my ass
Because you're not rich.

Rich people. When you live most of your life with no limits you don't develop money managing skills. What poor people can do in $50, rich people would probably need at least $500.
And also unwillingness to face reality and give up some luxuries. Can't meet ends because I spent all my money on useless shiny junk. Financial aid please.
In other words, these people are pissing on us and trying to convince us it's raining.
I come from a pretty modest family and I got most of my tuition paid off because of my outstanding academics... does this make me a bad person? I know my family could afford the tuition...
I always think it's genuinely interesting to see how hostile people on this forum get when people talk about their income. Immediately if someone makes more than them, they must be disillusioned 0 class conscious rich folk who 'get a kitchen every year'.
These same people are crying out that the posters who happen to make a bit more need to understand the situation of those who don't make as much, but meanwhile decide to make gross assumptions anyway about the well-off posters.
Seriously, how do you expect anyone to be impressed or proud that you live off of X amount a year when you're a prick towards anyone who makes more than you?
Furthermore, just because there are families of five living off $20k a day doesn't magically make the lives of any family of five who makes a penny over that any less challenging. Some families live in cities with higher cost of living, which can easily eat away at extra income. Some families have students who go to more expensive colleges, not necessarily because they feel like burning money, but because they have the opportunity.
Quit being such dumb asses when it comes to understanding how other people live, because nobody is going to care what you live off of if you foam at the mouth the second anyone else mentions their income. You don't know their situation, where they live, what expenses they have, any of that. So any assumptions you make just make you look like a moron.

When a family has 5 cars and makes a tonne of money and still complains how hard their live is, I have every right to complain.

When people say that they can live with less money what they're really saying is that they're living proof that it can be done.

Except I saw no one in this thread saying that they had 5 cars and tons of money. And yet they still got shit for it.
