If this woman is getting this worked up over profanity then her head is probably going to implode when she finds out about all the books that contain even the mildest of scenes that involve sex or violence. Sometimes both.
They should have the kids read American Psycho. Swearing might be the last thing that they think of after that.
My children curse, smoke and drink at the age of 13! It obviously has nothing to do with my parenting its all the books/movies/videogames fault! [editline]19th May 2012[/editline]
Some of the books we have to read in school has scenes like where a girl just had sex and she's saying she can feel the cum running down the inside of her thigh. Just out of nowhere.
Well, is the book good?
I wonder what they'd make of Crash - J G Ballard. It's about some guys with a car crash fetish, and it doesn't really leave much to the imagination.
i swore once and it was awful
I can only imagine what these people would think about A Song of Fire and Ice (the series of which A Game of Thrones is the first book of, for those who don't know). Where's the not much English swearing (if any at all, really... They swear using their own terms), there's so much sex, rape, and incest that these peoples' eyes would probably melt right out of their skulls. :v: [editline]19th May 2012[/editline] Well, I hope it's not "just out of nowhere." I would imagine this most often occurs right at the end of a sex scene. I mean, I would be really disturbed if such a thing occurred "just out of nowhere." "Jessica was distraught that the grocery store didn't have the brand of tea that she enjoys drinking the most. Sighing in discontent and barely-contained frustration, she grabbed the first tea that sounded even mildly interesting, and, as she made her way to the register, she could feel the cum running down the inside of her thigh. When she saw the length of the line of the closest register, she sighed in disbelief. She was absolutely exasperated when she saw that every register had a line of similar size."
Not exactly out of nowhere :v:, but it was after a sex scene '"Oh god, I don't want to be at this party anymore, this is too embarrassing, I want to go home." Jessica thought as she could feel the semen running down the inside of her thigh.' It also described the noodle hanging out of her mouth after she had puked her guts out. Lovely book.
I kind of like sexual honesty in books.

I think they should read some of Henry Miller's work.
Stop assuming I want to be popular, news. I don't like attention.
Last book I properly read included a rather graphic sex scene. While ordinarily this wouldn't bother me, the fact that it involved the use of anal beads on a dude, followed by the dude "roaring like an animal in the forest" was a surprise. It was a serious Sci-Fi book, I promise.
QUICK WE NEED A BOOK CLASSIFICATION BOARD, PROTECT OUR CHILDREN
Some of the books we have to read in school has scenes like where a girl just had sex and she's saying she can feel the cum running down the inside of her thigh. Just out of nowhere.
What was the title of this book? For science!
What was the title of this book? For science!
It's Danish so you probably would understand it, but it's this one:
Although I would say it is not appropriate to swear in certain social situations, I would hate to meet the prude sort of person who thinks swearing is socially unnacceptable outright. In a relaxed sort of atmosphere with friends no-one would even flinch if you were to "curse". And I doubt half the time you would even notice you said it. At the end of the day, it is only a word.
Children can easily be influenced by strong language in books hahaha
Reminds me of that book I read as part of grade seven, it had several erotic scenes....Everyone loved those books :v:
Teens read books?
In other news, stuck up pricks with nothing better to do with their time fund another study, can physical activity be bad for your health? MORE AT 10 ON THE FOX NEWS NETWORK.

I have no idea how disparate the Danish and English languages are, but that title, as it reads in English, just makes it sound like a shoddy erotic/porn novel, "Kiss Ah Oh Shit." Combined with the really low-quality effects over a cheap standard picture of some dude's pants (?) and the litle hearts and the lip-stick, I would have a hard time imagining the book to be anything other than a shoddy porn novel. :v:

I remember when I was about 9 my mum was going on about the word 'stupid' being used in kids programmes
Not for lack of trying. People constantly push for Huckleberry Finn to be banned because "nigger" is used so much.
And let's not forget the character literally named "Injun-Joe"

I like how they're calling books 'trash' just because they have swear words in them
Guys these are Mormons of course they're retarded. If any one of them read American Psycho they'd probably die on the spot.
Guys these are Mormons of course they're retarded. If any one of them read American Psycho they'd probably die on the spot.
So... Facepunch should definitely start a thread to send them a copy of the book and a short little book review of it?
Is this REALLY that big of a problem? As long as they're reading and know when and where cursing is tasteful within writings of their own, i don't see an issue. Modern novels usually reflect what the social norms are during the time it was written, modern society now are a bunch of potty mouths. [editline]19th May 2012[/editline] I always read books with vulgarities in them. When i was in 6th grade i started reading novels from my favorite authors, Hunter Thompson and Kurt Vonnegut. Man if those teachers read the books i was reading in their class and knew what were in them, their heads would spin.
