Jensen got some upgrades, and the nano machines are coming in too. We're between where HR and Deus Ex were now. Now, lets see how this game lives up, and if we'll get a remake of the original Deus Ex.
I really need to finish the original but it's age gets to me : (
So the Self Destruction ending is the canon ending then. Can't say I'm suprised. :v:
But in the SD ending [sp]Jensen killed himself with the facility[/sp]
they'll probably pull all endings together or just make none of them canon
I am being cautiously optimistic. Human Revolution was barely a Deus Ex game in my book. It was a good game no doubt, but the stealth really felt shoehorned in at times and it had like 1/10th of the complexity. I could go re-play DX1 now and play it through front-to-back for the 10th time and have fun with it, but every time I've tried playing through HR again it's felt extremely stale and I couldn't be arsed getting past the first hour of gameplay. Not to say that it wasn't a great experience the first time, as I expect this will be, but neither carry the replayability and complexity of the first. As I've said before, DX1 is more of an RPG played from the first person perspective, while HR is an FPS with RPG and stealth elements.
Totally disagree
DX1 is one of my all time favorite games, it still does things that many games haven't really come close to as far as attention to details go
DX:HR was in my eyes a perfect modernized sequel to DX1 and is everything I hoped it would be, boss design notwithstanding (but that is -literally- less than 1% of the game). I don't think the missing RPG elements really took all that much away from the core experience of what made DX good unless your primary enjoyment in RPGs (and DX) come from stat optimization. The fact that HR improved FPS-level mechanics enough to make it work good as a shooter is a logical step forward considering DX was always a (rather average) shooter in gameplay. It just happened to be a pretty slow paced shooter with RPG elements compared to stuff like Half Life and Quake at the time, which I don't think HR really strays away from when you get down to it.
How was stealth shoehorned? You realize that DX1 had a barely passable stealth system in it? The worst part about stealth in DX:HR is that if you focused on cloaking and were good at it that it trivialized a good chunk of the game.
And yet people wonder why AAA companies spend so much on graphics...
C'mon. It's a 2001 game. It's not too bad, unlike the late-90s games that came out right as companies were moving away from sprites.

It really annoys me when people say stuff like that. Can people not stand the original Half-Life either because it's too ugly? Maybe I'm just getting old and kids can't appreciate the classics.
Deus Ex looked terrible when it came out. It was one of the only complaints about the game. Most games of that era had better graphics and they're held up today by their art design. Deus Ex had levels made of grey boxes and characters that looked like cheap mannequins.
You have to be completely nostalgia blinded to think this looked good even in 2000. I played Deus Ex back in the day and the first thing I noticed was how fucking bland to ugly it looks.

[sp]In the end of the trailer it looks like it shows him about to be pulled out of the water. It may imply that the destruction of Panchaea is at least canon if that scene is a flashback.[/sp]

Games older than that looked much better.
Don't take my saying earlier that Deus Ex has aged awfully as me saying the game is bad. The time I did spend playing it, after getting used to the fact that shooting just makes no real sense (you're a heavily augmented super-agent, but you first have to level the shit out of firearms to even stand a chance of hitting a target, what the fuck?), and that the stealth mechanics were...well nothing amazing really. It was quite fun. The story was engaging at least, and the little bits and pieces scattered around to read or interact with made it feel fairly real as a world.
It just looked awful and controlled like sin outside of quite tight movement. But if you fuck movement up in a game from 2000, you're probably a lost cause.
did anyone else notice the tag on Jensen's coat? I googled search "ACRNM" and came across this.

I like HR as far as gameplay goes, but it's a lot more scripted and linear (as most AAA games tend to be nowadays), and the writing was kind of bad IMO.
Deus Ex drops you in these incredibly huge areas and you're left to explore as you see fit, with a bunch of ways around each obstacle. HR puts you in fairly linear missions and at each step along the way has three or four obvious paths based on whatever skills and items you've been working on. I know I'm going to get accused of nostalgia goggles because it's a very subjective thing, but the freedom to complete objectives different ways in HR feels designed rather than emergent.
As for the story itself, I thought [sp]reuniting with Megan, and the entire end segment[/sp] were really poorly done.
Don't get me wrong, I really like HR and the RPG mechanics of the original can die in a fire, but I don't think as a sequel it really captured what makes the first so good in spite of its poor graphics and clunky mechanics. I'm optimistic to see what they've learned this time around.
Really? I never actually had a problem with it. Any way to bring it back?
F.lux on retardedly high settings should do the trick.
Well, time to play HR again!

Meant to preview before posting to make sure I had the right tag, then forgot. Sorry, fixed it now.
First the airsoft pads on the stream and now Jensen's jacket. Squeenix's advertisement game is incredible. Oh wow, I have a friend who shops here because he thinks the clothes are cyber punk esque lmao
Your friend must have a lot of disposable income, a lot of the jackets on there were 1000+. Good advertising for sure though, got my interest.
can we talk about the bullshit that Adam's coat doesn't have fucking flowers on it
also oh my god that fucking CGI trailer what the hell was that cocoon that was insane
At least the coat has cut/movable sleeves now so his augs make sense when he's wearing his coat.

it already happened

I have found Bob Page in the trailer.

Someone already found it in the thread? I must have missed it.
Nah people just use late if they thought of it but didnt post it, I didn't specifically notice it was Bob Page though so thanks for the tip
[editline]9th April 2015[/editline]
Although if Bob Page has stepped in for Hong-Kong now that [sp]Zhao is dead[/sp]... that could be interesting
Fuck yes, Deus ex in Prague. always said it would make a great cyberpunk setpiece.
bit of a shame, the x-files style massive pile of conspiracies was what made me love deus ex in the first place

It's never been the prettiest game but people shouldn't allow that to get in the way of a brilliant experience. I first played it in 2009(ish) and became totally immersed regardless of how it looked, the game does so much so well and it's a shame to miss that because of graphics alone.
