Wow will you stop with this. Atheism is not a religion.
you're confusing me for somebody else
I'm just voicing my dislike for dictionaries
You do realize that technically, the belief that there is no God counts as a religious belief? Therefore, Atheism is a religion, and therefore, this is breaking separation of church and state. Prove me wrong.
It's not that we actively don't believe in god, we just don't believe in any religion.
if you have to actually say "atheism is a RELIGION!" it means it probably isn't. nobody says hinduism is a RELIGION! because it is, you know, an actual religion, so there's no need.

What.
It means you're trying to force a definition onto something that doesn't fit with everything else conventionally referred to by the definition.
The supreme court considers atheism to be a "religion", but that's only because you can't discriminate against people for their religion (i.e. freedom of religion), atheists included. It'd be more apt to call it a belief, but yeah it's not a religion in the traditional sense.

The government also says pizza is a vegetable.
You can't just "ignore" the people who try to push religion in your face. Who ever says otherwise must be completely socially inept and keeps to them selves because if you go anywhere you will find people who do this.
Alright yeah! No more free speech for those stupid christians!

There are also atheists that push it in people's faces, just look at reddit. It works both ways.

Atheism is a religious philosophy. It is religious belief and assumption. It is not a religion, though.

The most fucking stupid comment I've read in my life.

No, it is the absense of a religious belief.
That is a religious belief in itself. You have to actively make the assumption there is no god in order to be atheist. It's a philosophy regarding the divine and supernatural. If you don't believe in god, that is an important part of your outlook on the divine and supernatural.

I would just call it a belief about religion.

Well it IS Reddit after all.
They tend to overdo pretty much everything.
They're responsible for the slow death of many internet jokes.
Wow will you stop with this. Atheism is not a religion. There are religions that are atheistic because they don't have a creator god or any gods, but that does NOT make atheism a religion. It makes those religions atheistic.
Atheism these days is also used to describe the lack of a belief in religion in general which is why it is an antonym for religion.
Um
He was talking about atheistic religions which DO exist
Buddhists are atheists

But not believing in a god is a default state
It's like saying not speaking is a language or not collecting stamps is a hobby

Buddhism is actually agnostic. The Buddha didn't deny an existence of a god.

Atheism does not have any specific philosophy attached to it. Not believing in Thor would obviously be part of your outlook on the existence of Thor, but that doesn't make it a philosophy.
Buddhism is actually agnostic. The Buddha didn't deny an existence of a god.
argh
buddhism is atheistic by definition.
also "agnostic" is not a thing in the context of theism. you're either an agnostic atheist or agnostic theist. there is no "third option"
That's a poor analogy because stamp collecting and language are not philosophical outlooks on life.
Person A believes in determinism
Person B denies determinism
Person B has an outlook on determinism. They aren't a determinist, but they still have a view.
That same concept is applied to religious philosophy. You can only make the argument that not believing in god is a default state, and therefore atheism is a lack of any religious philosophy, in the case of someone who never had any concept or awareness of religion in the first place. As soon as you have an awareness of religion, you take a stance on what you believe and don't believe, and therefore have views regarding religion and your own personal religious views(whether present or absent).

Yea it does, not believing in a god. That is enough to categorize it as a religious philosophy. Your outlook on the existence of deities is part of your philosophical and moral beliefs, whether it plays a small role or a large role.

Well, now we're just getting into semantics. If you define a religious belief as any belief about religion, then sure. You could call not believing in Jesus a Christian belief. If you go by the definition which I think most of us go by, a belief based on the tenets of a religion, then it's not.

Yeah and when I became aware of stamps I made the decision not to collect them

That's what a religious belief is, a belief about religion.
Yeah and when I became aware of stamps I made the decision not to collect them
That still doesn't prove a point.
Wow, the religious sector of the US population is going to eat this up. and they wont be happy. that I garuntee.
There are also atheists that push it in people's faces, just look at reddit. It works both ways.
I think the phrases "shoving x down my throat" and "pushing/rubbing x in my face" are not very good for describing Religion in present society. Athiests can be stuck up obnoxious dickwads and do "shove their views in others faces", and so can Religious people, but you honestly don't see that often.
You more see Religion plastered and ingrained in society, not shoved in your face or down your throat. At least that's how I perceive it.
That's what a religious belief is, a belief about religion.
So is the belief that Christianity is false a Christian belief? Like I said, semantics.

No, it's a religious perspective, just like atheism.

No it isn't, where are you pulling this shit from?
You don't have to actively disbelieve in god, you just have to not believe in him in the first place, which is the initial outlook anyway, for everyone.
