oh man imagine quake 5 with oculus rift strafejumping at mach speed through maps IN VIRTUAL REALITY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAFUCKYEAH
UPS said my Rift was due to arrive to my work today but it never came so upset had all my demos ready to go too :(
I really want Morrowind or Oblivion modded to support Oculus Rift.
Personally, I'd rather Skyrim due to modern visuals. Things like the Eldergleam Sanctuary would be AMAZING with the Rift.
I was more thinking something like bioshock with oculous, or far cry 3. BS would be badass.
Imagine Chivalry: Medieval Warfare with the rift. omg can't wait
Imagine Chivalry: Medieval Warfare with the rift. omg can't wait
Hardcore Mode: The Rift literally cuts your head off
oh man imagine quake 5 with oculus rift strafejumping at mach speed through maps IN VIRTUAL REALITY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAFUCKYEAH
Strafing feels weird as fuck even in just "walking" demos, can't imagine how quake would feel. It twists your brain.
oh man imagine quake 5 with oculus rift strafejumping at mach speed through maps IN VIRTUAL REALITY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAFUCKYEAH
Seeing as you aren't actually strafing, jumping, etc, I think that'd be really confusing I still think the Oculus's strongest point is pretty much anything that isn't first person (looking down onto an RTS battlefield, for example) and anything that puts you in a cockpit (flying and driving simulators)
Personally, I'd rather Skyrim due to modern visuals. Things like the Eldergleam Sanctuary would be AMAZING with the Rift.
I thought that Skyrim had a Rift mod.
I really, really want this for Arma.
Actually Arma is one of the games where the Rift's main limitation is quite a large issue: the relatively low amount of pixels per degree of view you have. This is why Dslyecxi had a largely negative response to the Rift in a video a month or two back: you really need a very high resolution in Arma to spot distant, nearly hidden targets. However if you play Arma for simple fun and just want to completely immerse yourself (roleplay a soldier with short-sightedness or something), the Rift is still the best thing around. It's a goddamn shame that for years and years, we created huge sprawling 3D worlds and visuals... then smashed them on a flat monitor surface and project that into the real world.
Everyone who has gotten one gushes about how wonderful it is. It's making it very hard to wait for the consumer model rather than just tossing money at a devkit now.
Seriously, people thinking this, do not get the devkit When they say its not for consumer purchase, they mean it. Wait for the consumer release.
Seriously, people thinking this, do not get the devkit When they say its not for consumer purchase, they mean it. Wait for the consumer release.
Only get the dev kit if you want to own a peice of gaming history. Think the Apple 1 computer. In many years a working 'original' dev kit will be worth quite a few pennies as it is the first proper VR device prototype. If you are a developer, or are a hacky person then do get the dev kit, just be aware that the resolution is fairly low (although not as low as people are making out, but it still is quite low compared to todays standards) the experience it offers is something that nothing else has ever done before. I can whole heatedly say that this IS the future of gaming. The god of gaming has just proven that by joining their team!
john carmack is an insane technowizard
Hopefully he's better with this hardware than he is with making games.
Hopefully he's better with this hardware than he is with making games.
Well considering all he does is work with hardware and not make games, I'm inclined to say yes he will.
Don't worry doom 4 will come out before hl3.
At this point even DNF 2 would come out before HL3.
I am so ready for this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ff6ojzy_e_8

does anyone have that picture of john carmack that spread about /b/ like wildfire the one like you mean nothing to this man and how his dog was a bug that needed to be fixed because it tore up his couch or something
This is what the founders were worried about; consumers buying the devkits and treating them like a finished product when they were only meant for developer use. They even said in an interview that even if you understand the limitations but still want to support Oculus by buying a devkit even though you are a consumer, the best thing you can do is not buy it so that actual developers can get the devkits sooner, and wait to pledge your support by buying the finished product when the time was right. And then people go around and judge the Rift as if it was a finished product even though, when you go order it, it says in big letters THIS IS NOT A FINISHED PRODUCT FIT FOR CONSUMER USE. And then they get disappointed because they expected a far better experience even then they should have known better. And then they give it bad reviews and write it off as a gimmick early. And then idiots blindly listen to that instead of waiting for a proper review for the finished device. This only ultimately hurts the industry.
I hope this will come hand in hand with DooM 4 and HL3.
oh man imagine quake 5 with oculus rift strafejumping at mach speed through maps IN VIRTUAL REALITY AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAFUCKYEAH
And in non-euclidean environments of eldritch horror, the game will supply a cleaning addon to mop up the brainsauce leaking out of your ears as your brain overheats trying to comprehend the impossible geometry.
Well considering all he does is work with hardware and not make games, I'm inclined to say yes he will.
John Carmack, of id software? Never makes games? How interesting.
John Carmack, of id software? Never makes games? How interesting.
He's not a game designer, if that's what you mean. He programs graphics.
I've written off a lot of gimmicky video game peripherals over the years, but it's pretty hard to ignore this one, considering the level of support it's received, and continues to receive. The experience must really be something noteworthy. I'm pretty stoked to get my hands on one and see for myself!
i want a pair to play warthunder with. game would look amazing with cockpit view and a joystick. you can fucking literally look over the side of the plane to see shit under you.

Wow he was sweating at the end of that. But you know what REALLY needs Oculus support? Dwarf Fortress.
John Carmack, of id software? Never makes games? How interesting.
How do people never get this. He builds the core of every iD tech engine until he can hand it off to the other programmers to clean up and finish off, and then takes a leader position on that project while working on the next iteration, which includes new techniques within rendering. in other words, his work is always between 3-12 years ahead of the rest of iD.
