You know, I'm wondering if the kid and her mother knew HOW the Recon Armor was going to be unlocked.
It might have been a simple case of them thinking the kid will just play online and get the achievements for him, the way an older brother might help his younger sibling beat a level in a video game that didn't have cheat codes.

Actually, it's sort of flawed. You have to set the Gamertag up on the Xbox physically. If you do it at Xbox.com, you don't get the free month.
At least it used to be like that. Not sure if they fixed that or not.
