Now its just time to cough up 400K to get on the waiting list to get a ticket, to the first private owned spaceship. D:
Yeah, but we sent a whole mess of Americans to the moon to piss on the Soviet probe and plant flags.
But the moon is a giant pissant rock that wakes me up at night because its too goddamn bright
This is more like China's race into the 20th Century.

thanks for this. added it to the OP and put credit to you
It seems that the East, after years of oppression, exploitation, and humiliation and finally taking back its place and might even conquer the solar system while the West just goes down.
I hope America's economy gets back up, and maybe in the future, they'll consider transfering a few billions from the DoD (Budget: 600 billion) to NASA (Budget: 17 billion and decreasing).
Are you serious?
reds will put nukes on the moon. wheres joe mccarthy when you need him?
reds will put nukes on the moon. wheres joe mccarthy when you need him?
nuking the moon will kill us all. if they did that then they would die also. China might put there crap on the moon and hope for "martians" to play with the crap
Sorry China. We already own it.
Waaaallllllllll of text
This tower of a post needs a TL;DR summarization.
Who are they racing against?
Our private spaceflight companies?
Who the fuck cares if you get there first? Shouldn't the main priority be to ADVANCE OUR TECHNOLOGY and move out in space?

bah, human greed, nothing I'm proud of
terraform mars you lazy cunts! :argh:
terraform mars you lazy cunts! :argh:
We don't have that technology yet
We don't have that technology yet
According to some ambitious scientists we can start basic terraforming of the planet, but no-one has the money or time to take on such a challenging task

This is exactly the problem, money and greed getting in the way of development.

This was also my 6000'th post
I wonder if that's good or bad

How dare we not waste vast amounts of money on something that won't even help us now.
How dare we not waste vast amounts of money on something that won't even help us now.
It'll sure help us when the Earth starts to get so populated that our natural resources can't handle our growth even further. Some estimates show this may happen towards the end of the century.
How dare we not waste vast amounts of money on something that won't even help us now.
Because Earth's resources are not endless. We have to move out soon or we all will parish or something
It will be kinda creepy to see chinese put a flag of China in the moon. Because it makes me think what if soviets would've got there first.
Because Earth's resources are not endless. We have to move out soon or we all will parish or something
No, we won't. We may be running out of oil, but we still have plenty of energy sources beyond oil.

There is no such thing as soviets any more. And if China got to the moon first, it wouldn't be creepy, we'd be fucked, because there is no way we could ever keep up to them given our constant lack of funding.
No, we won't. We may be running out of oil, but we still have plenty of energy sources beyond oil.
Resources is also other kinds of resources, not just energy sources
[editline]11:24AM[/editline]
Just saying, higher population = higher resource demand
sorry china you're about 45 years late
That's not going to stop them overtaking the US.
A moon base would be awesome, but if they travel to the moon just to put a flag on it, it's a bit disappointing.
They should set fire to the flag on the moon and film it. OH wait - no oxygen :downs:

It's not like we're reproducing exponentially. Barring every single person on the planet having two children, I don't think we have to worry about resources for a while.
Lets say approximately 3 billion women had two children, that's 6 billion children, woop, we doubled our population
Woah, well this should be interesting.
I like how everyone goes "lololo we haz already been on moon china is late welcome to the 20th century!!!1" while they probably are pissed off as fuck that China is going to the moon and the US isn't (and anyone should know that just because you have been there before it doesn't mean that it's completely useless to go back, there is more to do on the moon than just getting there and going back).
