ITT people act like they know everything about electricity after one year of high school physics and a couple of mythbusters episodes.
What's their to understand other than electrically charged particles travel from point A to point B when point B is less charged than point A? It's not that difficult. It's when you get into electromagnetism that things get a bit more tricky.
It's called 'current'. Amps (short for 'amperes') are what current is measured in. You're right, however. Voltage just measures an electrical potential difference. It's the current that kills you.
Thanks for letting me know what I learned in metal and science.
I'd be quite shocked if that happened to me. (User was banned for this post ("News pun." - ventilated))
yea, i think they shuold restrict lighter sales to 18+ only
They do, what happens here is that adults buy them for the kids. [editline]09:10AM[/editline]
What a terrible shame. Got a video of it?
Ask South West Trains or Network Rail. Go google.
Fucking idiot
I feel sorry for the guy. Also, the lack of awareness for the danger of those rails is kind of shocking considering, the proximity to the town. This is also probably the worst way to spread the word around.
I always knew about it, to be honest I didn't think anyone didn't know.
Where is the "you're an asshole, I hate you" rating?
First of all this happened in my town, Emsworth, Hampshire in the South Coast of England. The train station is only a 5 minute walk from here, anyway I knew this kid, he was from the local secondary school. My friend was the one who saw it (who unfortunately has epilepsy but it's unknown whether he had an epilepsy attack from the accident, he was really sensitive to things going on around him anyway) It's also appeared that the kid died because he dropped his lighter onto the tracks. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/newshome/Tragic-accident-of-boy-killed.5455234.jp Another thing is that it's 750V DC which in comparison to the normal overhead AC current which is 14,000. The way the kid died with 750V He must of died quite a slow death. I'm still asking around, because even though the news covered most of it, you'll never get better information that local.
Overhead is 25,000v AC
It's not the current that kills you it's the wattage.
It's the current that kills you, now shut up and mourn this poor and lame boy's death.
I don't feel sorry for him at all. Firstly, he shouldn't have had a lighter. 14-year olds aren't meant to smoke. Secondly, he had his lighter out at a train station which supposedly means he was going to smoke at the station too. Smoking anywhere on any part of the British Rail network is against the law. Thirdly you have to be an idiot to not know that it's electrified. I know that going anywhere near any tracks even on a non-electrified line is dangerous, since a small current runs through the train's 'guide' tracks for the purpose of signalling. (Just to back that up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Track_circuit) Finally, if you're travelling on a train, you should know the ins and outs of the safety procedures. If your train has an accident, did you know it's safer to stay on the train? Probably not. Most people just go ahead and jump off, sometimes when there could be oncoming trains or like in this case, third rail electrification. I feel bad for his parents and his friends though.
Why does a 14 year old boy need a lighter?
to smoke mad trees broah
I guess you can't do that thing in inFamous, can you.
I don't feel sorry for him at all.
yeah i know how you feel
Firstly, he shouldn't have had a lighter. 14-year olds aren't meant to smoke.
yeah, he deserved to die just for that
Secondly, he had his lighter out at a train station which supposedly means he was going to smoke at the station too. Smoking anywhere on any part of the British Rail network is against the law.
yep, breaking the law, definitely deserved to die
yeah i know how you feel yeah, he deserved to die just for that yep, breaking the law, definitely deserved to die
You seem to love searching for all my posts then trolling me on 90% of them. [editline]12:15PM[/editline] Also I never said I think he deserverd to die, I just have no sympathy.
The 750V thing doesn't mean he died a slow death. It isn't the volts that kill you, it is the amperes. Which 100 stops the heart. Sucks, like the article says, I don't think many people know their is a live rail.
One hundred amperes? One seventh of one ampere across the heart is sufficient to induce arrythmia. Seven amperes is lethal. One Hundred is sheer overkill.
Guys, it's ok, its been announced he was a chav, thats done the world abit of good !
Guys, it's ok, its been announced he was a chav, thats done the world abit of good !
Oh, really? Thanks for telling me. I almost felt bad for him for a second. Hey, good news, everyone! He was a chav!
He got lit up (User was banned for this post ("News pun." - ventilated))
Why does a 14 year old boy need a lighter?
To light things on fire.
That's not even funny or original because you had to italicise the word, people aren't that dumb that they can't find the shitty joke in a friggin 4 word sentence jesus
Your name, however, fits the situation quite well.
You seem to love searching for all my posts then trolling me on 90% of them.
uhh no, i just reply to stupid posts that i see
:golfclap: :phoneline::supaburn::phoneline:
uhh no, i just reply to stupid posts that i see
That's funny I haven't seen you quote yourself once yet.
I don't get this, wasn't he wearing shoes? I would have thought the rubber part at the bottom of a shoe would have isolated it.
yep, breaking the law, definitely deserved to die
No 14-year old deserves to die.
That's funny I haven't seen you quote yourself once yet.
Because talking to yourself is weird and redundant. [editline]07:46PM[/editline]
No 14-year old deserves to die.
God damn it.
I thought most people knew that the third rail on a track often is electrified Anyways that sucks for his parents Unless he was a chav Even then it still sucks for his parents
"'The third rail might look like a normal piece of track but it carries huge amounts of electricity and is never switched off.'" Nobody see's a problem with this? Seriously, why the fuck isn't it a different colour or something.
