iPhones are status symbols even though they really shouldn't be. To me, they represent the trendy little dipshit that is paying $600+ for hardware barely worth $200. For something that claims simplicity and innovation, it's neither, iTunes is a pain in the arse to use and I'd take Android over iOS any day.
The iPhone 3GS is only 50 bucks.
Or people could just stop buying poorly designed phones. I've had the same phone for over 3 years and the worst that's happened is it has some dead pixels on the outer screen now.
But you damned whipper-snappers have this insane desire to play yer Angry Birds 'n yer dag-blasted U-Tubes on the go so you buy a $200-300 piece of glass and wonder why it broke when you dropped it.
A smartphone would be nice and all, but it's just a major distraction from what's more important.
Would make texting and driving much safer also.
I'm pretty sure a Nokia 3310 could survive being run over by a truck.
They don't make electronics to last anymore. It's to make people buy new ones.
Also it's Apple, so what do you expect.
My Nokia 3310 has basically been to hell and back and survived. I honestly think that those things may be the only relics that mankind ever existed in the first place a few billion years from now.

Those and IBM Model M's.
It's just a patent.
It doesn't actually mean they'll develop it, it just means that they're the only ones who could do it.

That's because electronics change, i bet an nvidia Geforce MX220 could withstand being runover, try that with a 580GTX
A lot of fuckin retards at my school smash the screens of their iphones and ipod touches ON PURPOSE because they think it looks cool. And I'm talkin a lot of people.

Guess they're pampered with money by their parents and thus they have no idea on how to earn money themselves.
apple is horrible in the reliability department now as well.
I dropped my htc desire hd from 2.5m height onto asphalt and it only has some minor scratches on the case.
which look awesome, by the way.
fuck apple at everything.
I hate patents for shit like this.
Completely killjoys any form of innovation. Ie, I could be some garage-inventor guy at home who invents a clip-on case for phones which has an airbag installed and a drop sensor, but if I tried to go anywhere with it, some fucking patent lawyer will run in and go 'WE'LL SUE YOU FOR 9 MILLION IF YOU DON'T GIVE THIS TO US AND FUCK OFF'.
Sucks fucking nads.

I actually got a MX 440 lying around, doesn't seem more sturdy than my 580, no idea what you're on about...
My friend matt drops his iphone almost once everyday, he says it's because the damn thing is so rounded and smooth it just slips out his hand.
I've never had a case on any of my phones / ipods
The only damage is a scratched screen from having a bolt in my pocket and a very slightly scratched corner from dropping it
I don't understand how my stuff can be thrown across a room and survive, yet other people can shatter their phone's screens within a day of owning it (This has happened to two of my friends)
