yeah but then I guess girls get the shorter end since all their stereotypes are actually realistic compared to the obviously fantastical badass action hero shit boys get
not really? how are girls' stereotypes realistic? barbie (and most other dolls) would probably be close to being anorexic if she was a real human (don't quote me on this but i think i remember some article claiming that a real woman with barbie's proportions would be like, physically unable to become pregnant or something)
sure, guys get stuff like superheroes that do impossible shit everyday, but at least their body types are somewhat realistic
*Looks at He-man*

you're misinterpreting my point. it's pretty much agreeing with you but disagreeing with the notion that boy's toys are as bad.
"Juxtaposing her alongside real women as though the two are indistinguishable is dehumanizing, and in a literal sense, objectifying,"
She's saying that like a normal SI Swimsuit Issue isn't objectifying

Boys cartoons are packaged in such a way that they're blatantly impossible in just about every way. The bodies are generally feasible, but far from expected.
Shit like Barbie paints that kind of figure as normal. She's a nurse, or a horse rider, or a supermodel; all of which are far more realistic professions than secret agent.
The point is that girls are more likely to internalise "you should look like this" than boys are because their toys and cartoons exist in a universe which is reasonably realistic.

oh i see, i guess that makes sense.

I have a better chance of making secret agent than supermodel. Modeling might be easier to get to, but reaching the top?
Toys aren't meant to be realistic, but that doesn't mean their scope has to be so narrow. And toys are far from being reflective of standards, they are enforcing them (boys aren't born liking violence and girls aren't born wanting beauty related things). Boy toys don't need violence and girl toys don't need to be domestic, that's what is absurd.
Lego for instance are a great toy. They have a lot of different types of sets, they are fun, and they aren't defining gender standards for boys in an inherently masculine way. Girl Lego toys are not as good (with focus on specific color sets and toy types), but their boy sets are pretty encompassing.
Legos are on a totally different level. The fun in Legos is building them, that's what satisfies the creativity factor I mentioned earlier. Dolls and Action figures can't do that. If you give a kid a Lego set of an office building he or she will go wild building it or maybe using the same parts to build something different, stimulating the brain and all that. Give them a figure/doll of an office worker, however, it won't give them that same spark of creativity, because office workers are boring as fuck. At least with a G.I. Joe the kid has SOME idea on what kinds of scenarios they can make up with that toy.
Objectifying women my ass. These days maybe, but back in the day Barbie was a feminist icon. Case in point, astronaut barbie.

Maybe it's just a fuckin toy.
I'm pretty sure this is a joke but either way both suck and should be changed. Girl toys are overly domestic and have unrealistic beauty standards, and boy toys are all violent and have narrow masculine identities
Either way both are limiting and do not accurately depict what most men and most women are like, and that sucks
its a toy
if you don't want your kids to play with a barbie, then don't buy a barbie
kids don't actually look this deeply into the toys that they play with. growing up playing with a barbie will influence your kid as much as a wrestling action figure (it wont)

A toy to some, an idol of perfect standards to others.

Though I can confirm that it's strongly affected many peoples beauty perceptions. My sister is generally an intelligent person, but she thinks that Barbie is a good beauty ideal for real people. She spends two hours (not an exaggeration) on makeup before she goes out, and she thinks the most beautiful models are the ones that look like plastic, with crazy wide eyes and unrealistic, weird Barbie proportions.
I know I live my life everyday trying to be like my hero, generic plastic army man #52.

I try to live like my toy gladiator with nipples embedded into his armor.
Arguments like this are just plain fucking stupid. I highly doubt "Fat Fast Food Worker Barbie" or "Unemployed Unwashed Man" Would be any fun for kids either, so lets not shit on the things they have already that are designed to be fun to play with and imagine with. I really doubt a kid will pick up a fucking barbie and get all deep and philosophical about it. If they are anything like me or my sister, they will pick the fucking toy up and fucking play with it like a normal kid.
People are offended by bollocks far too easily nowadays, there wont be any nice things left.
unapologetic
I didn't even know that is a real word.
I highly doubt Barbie is the reason girls are "girly", it's the media. Barbie is a drop in the bucket compared to the media in general.
nobody said barbie's the only reason. it doesn't matter that she's only a drop in the bucket either, because she's a part of the media's beauty standard, regardless of how small that part is
I didn't even know that is a real word.
Not really that rare of a word tbh
Apparently women think the pinnacle of beauty is a plastic doll with a giraffe neck and oversized head with eyes as wide as your mouth.
They're mostly trying to help really young girls who haven't grasped that concept yet.
Personally, I think this Barbie thing is just some intern being a smartass more than anything else.
Girl Lego toys are not as good (with focus on specific color sets and toy types),
The actual reason for this is because until like, two years ago, girl-oriented themes literally didn't sell.
